MrAndMrsFish
NASHVILLE, Tenn.— Adam Greenberg, he of the One At-Bat campaign fame, is at the Winter Meetings in Nashville looking for a real shot to play in the majors. He was hopeful that opportunity would come with the Marlins, but they've informed him they have no interest bringing him to spring training. Greenberg on Monday night ran into special assistant Andre Dawson, who introduced him to new manager Mike Redmond. Greenberg said Redmond appeared enthusiastic about the possibility, and Dawson arranging a meeting with the club's brass. Before that meeting could take place Tuesday, the Marlins told Greenberg it wouldn't be necessary. They could not accommodate him in Jupiter next spring. Greenberg signed a one-day contract with the Marlins during the final regular season series. It was the culmination of the One At-Bat campaign to get Greenberg the major league at-bat he was deprived of as a rookie in 2005. Playing for the Cubs against the Marlins, Greenberg in his first plate appearance was hit by a pitch in the head. Complications from that injury all but derailed his efforts to make a comeback. Greenberg has bounced around a few affiliated and non-affiliated teams, and earlier this year he played for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Jupiter. That's how the Marlins learned of his story. Greenberg got his at-bat against R.A. Dickey who went on to win the National League Cy Young, and struck out on three pitches. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-marlins/marlins-blog/sfl-adam-greenberg-wont-be-going-to-spring-training-with-miami-marlins-20121204,0,518225.story
Michael
I'm OK with this. We promised him one at bat, that's all he wanted, and that's what he got.
Entendu
What could it have hurt them to do that? Especially this year lol
Admin
He looked awful in that AB. Despite how shitty the Marlins are now, they can easily do much better than him.
Michael
He looked awful in that AB. Despite how shitty the Marlins are now, they can easily do much better than him. Come on, you're smarter than that. He looked awful against the eventual Cy Young winner. Our entire team looked awful against him all year. Can't judge his overall skill from that one AB [which, really, the minor league stats aren't good, so the latter part of your post is correct]. Erick
He sucks and should just be happy that he got the one at-bat.
FishFan88
Give him an invite. It'll be a shot, And he won't make the team. All on him.

I wasn't basing his total suckiness on that one AB, but was using it as an example that epitomizes his suckiness.
Puma
Dickey made many people look awful in 2012.
Sirspud
Considering we've traded away most of our big league talent, I don't see how he'd be much worse.
Hammerhead
He looked awful in that AB. Despite how shitty the Marlins are now, they can easily do much better than him. He isn't good at baseball but it's hard to judge him off one AB against a knuckleballer and one of the best pitchers in the league last year. That said, why the hell not? It's not like we have anything to lose. Maybe he gets inspired and surprises or something.

Piazza31
While I don't agree with giving him a chance, I don't see where the harm is in giving him a chance as a Minor League ST Invite and possibly letting him go to NO if he can work his way up to MIA. Don't let him near the big league club in spring training (a possible distraction), but let him try to earn a Minors roster spot next year with a legit chance to make a MLB roster possibly in September. I don't think we have any AAA OF's he'd block given a roster spot.
Hammerhead
All of the people saying "why not" would be saying "what a joke" had they given him a chance. At this point, I don't think the joke could get much bigger. So I doubt we would care. I know I wouldn't.

We get it; you hate it. No, the team really is a joke. Like, people are literally laughing at how pathetic the Marlins are. So to add Greenberg would actually give people something to watch. I'd rather see Greenberg compete for a spot than guys like Marcell Ozuna, Alfredo Silverio, and Joe Mahoney.

He has potential right now and if he continues to develop, maybe really good potential. In a perfect world, he'll become the next Nelson Cruz, according to some scouting. I'll take that. Erick
And my point is that you don't have to constantly call the team a joke for everyone to get that you think the team is a joke. How about providing something else? Squall has been calling the team a joke since the team traded away all his favorite players. We get it; you don't like them. You have the right to not watch. You have the right to not even be a fan if you wish. Coming on the board and constantly saying the same thing every day is no different than what a troll would do. If the purpose of your post is for the front office to read it, I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Jeffrey Loria, etc. don't visit the forums often, if at all. How about a discussion about how the team could get better instead of re-living the past which was shitty, anyway? Some of you make it seem like the team we sold this offseason wasn't a piece of shit.

After a few games I don't think you would. And why in the world would you say that anyway, given that Greenberg has no future really in the league while those other 3 players might. FutureGM
I'm with squall here. I WANT to like this team. I grew up with this team. But they're a national embarrassment and they effectively kick the fans in the nuts every time we attempt to trust this ownership. It's extremely frustrating, since I'm a huge baseball fan and I love this team, but the ownership hates the fans.
Watcha talkin bout Willis?
I thought it was nice what the Marlins did for the one at bat. I personally think it would have been a bit too much if they did invite him to spring training. There is no reason to get bitchy about him. It's not like he's crying about not being invited. If I were him, I would have probably sought out the most obvious lead first. Now he will just keep trying with other teams. Not a big deal.
