Seems like LoMo is maybe 2 weeks away, Olivo probably the first to go. Kotchman & Mahoney are just about ready too, figure Mahoney to aaa and Kotchman to the bench? I'd like to see what Mahoney can do, but for that you may as well give him a bunch of at-bats in AAA rather than sitting on the bench up here.

Eovaldi is getting closer, I think I'd send Sanabia down & keep Koehler in the rotation until either Turner is ready or Alvarez is healthy. Then if Nolasco is traded that opens up another spot. Haven't heard about Slowey's injury yet - I guess they could call up Jacob Turner now actually. But eventually I guess you could pick between Slowey and Koehler in the rotation for the time being, & then we'd have Jose-Eovaldi-Turner-Alvarez-Slowey/Koehler. No lefty but whatever.

Once Solano returns hopefully he's the backup infielder, so then Nick Green goes down.

And then in another month you've probably got Stanton and Yelich to add... You gotta play all 3 of those guys so probably Ozuna-Yelich-Stanton across the outfield. Ozuna's arm is great to have in right, not sure if they'd look to flip he & Stanton or not, Giancarlo's arm is good too. Anyhow, that pushes Ruggiano to 4th OF, Diaz goes down. I imagine they just part ways with Austin Kearns, and probably keep Coghlan over JP?

Really exciting topic I know, it's been a long season already.

I like this topic. Hopefully Solano isn't even a backup infielder but I have a feeling the FO is enamored with him and his batting average (despite him being terrible at everything else) and they'll send Dietrich down in lieu of him.

Ruggiano's defense has been exceptional this year. Just read an article that he's a top 5 defensive CF in mlb right now. Hopefully they trade him (all his HRs have been outside of marlins park and he's 13th in OPS among CFers so I'd imagine he'd fetch some sort of value) rather than stick him on the bench, but yeah, Stanton/Yelich/Ozuna sounds pretty nice to me.

Whoever the better defender is should start in right field....not sure if that is Stanton or Ozuna.

Stanton is actually having an off year defensively for whatever reason (compared to last year), but I say let Stanton play RF at this point.

The Marlins would be incredibly stupid to send Ruggiano to the bench, but nothing is beyond them. They should send him as part of a package for a third baseman or at least something in the way of a decent prospect. They are likely too stupid to do this.

Really small sample size though for looking at defensive metrics. He has always been decent there, and I would trust Ozuna to make the adjustment to LF better than Stanton (at least in the short-term).

Ruggiano is not going to net you much in a trade. I'd rather see Yelich in center field than Ruggiano.

I agree on Yelich.

On Ruggiano's trade value well maybe/maybe not. He's a top tier defender and average on the offensive side this year which is an upgrade for a fair amount of teams. He's also cheap. Someone must need that in CF (I don't really know the CF landscape)?

I would also rather see Yelich there. That's why I said they should trade him.

Ruggiano is some BABIP regression away from having very solid offensive numbers for a CF, and if valued properly, should be a decent trade chip. And as Polly mentioned, is having a very good defensive year as well.

It seems like players like Ruggiano who emerge from the scrap heap have a really hard time shaking off the AAAA label. Yet decent players do emerge from the scrap heap all the time.

They'll wait until the Tigers call them and give them what they need for the usual bag of pathetic players. The Miami Marlins are the candy store for the Tigers.

Jordan Brown, Matt Diaz, Miguel Olivo, and probably Nick Green, they can also move Valaika to the 60 day DL.

Also since they won't need 3 first baseman, not sure of options but Mahoney will probably go to NOLA

Does anybody know who Jordan Brown is yet? I'm still not convinced he's a real player.

He's the evil twin brother of Jaleel White.

Nah...I don't get it ;)

Release Pierre, release Olivo, release Kotchman, release Brown,

Trade Dobbs to somebody who wants a lefty pinch hitter.

Not really sure who Kotchman or Brown are. I usually only see the Gameday on mlb.com.

Yes, trade Dobbs. No longer needed on this bad team.

I would keep Cogs and try to keep Ruggs. But I think both are gone in a season or two. Good to see Cogs is having a good month, over .300 in May hitting.

I'd also trade Ricky right after he gets 1,000K's as a Marlin. Give him a medal with a Fish logo on it, and trade him to a contender as their 4th or 5th starter.

Ruggiano -- the new Chris Coghlan.

Still better than Coghlan

duh MATHIS

Forgot about him. That's why he was the lynch pin in the Tor trade.

Ruggiano -- the new Chris Coghlan.

Still better than Coghlan

True, but I bet he will continually be 'given a chance' for having a good rookie campaign.

Stanton, Morrison, Eovaldi, and Alvarez are the only people on the DL of any concern to this team. The rest are bleh and irrelevant.

That's a pretty awful comparison.

There's actually reason to believe Ruggiano can sustain, albeit at a lower level, his offensive success from last year (propensity to hit for a higher BABIP, power carrying into this year, average fly ball distance, the fact that he's currently posting an unlucky .257 BABIP). Where as all signs pointed towards Coghlan being unable to duplicate that freakish second half in 2009, and who has been awful ever since while continually being given unjustified opportunities.

Plus, he's a far superior defender to Coghlan in the outfield. Its pretty ridiculous to say he's being given chances when he's two months into his follow up campaign. And its not like he's been awful either. He's pretty much been an average CF who should be getting better offensively.
