July 7, 201313 yr definitely overpaid. he doesn't suck, though. practically any team would be happy with him as their 4 or 5 starter "4 or 5 starters" (especially those who are overpaid) don't have much trade value.

My comments have nothing to do with Loria. They have to do with the fact that Ricky Nolasco sucks and he is no longer a Miami (Florida) Marlin.

When the Nolasco trade rumors started a couple of weeks ago, I remember Waltz saying that he expected Nolasco to get a large payday in free agency because "he's a winner."

July 8, 201313 yr Does everybody forget about when Ricky demanded a trade this off-season? Where's this "he's a professional" stuff coming from? The guy was fine with me until then... He even threw in a jab when he was traded, saying "I won't ever forget my 8 years with the Marlins, great experience, even though we never made the playoffs" or some shit like that. I actually liked him as a player, but I don't really care for him.

Was it necessary to say something so negative in what was supposed to be a positive statement? And anyone who is as average as Nolasco who publicly says "TRADE ME" is a selfish prick. Maybe his attitude was different once camp started and he figured he would make the best of a bad situation, but it doesn't change the fact that it happened. I mean, I am happy that he ended up in LA, good for him. But I couldn't care less that he's gone.

July 9, 201313 yr Great article. Here is the essence: According to multiple published reports, the Marlins had the opportunity to do exactly that with Nolasco. Ken Rosenthal reported that the Rockies were willing to send “two quality prospects� to Miami for Nolasco, but they wanted the Marlins to pick up a good sized chunk of the money Nolasco was still owed. Instead, the Marlins took the Dodgers deal, which freed them of his salary but gave them minimal talent. The Marlins had a choice, and they chose current cash savings over future talent. Spot on. Anyone who defends this trade as a legitimate baseball move needs to set down the FO water they're carrying and reassess.
July 9, 201313 yr I am also pretty angered that they just trade away their international bonus pool slots all willy nilly. I mean, why put the cash into signing upside latin American players? When has that ever worked out for anyone? Leads me to believe that international haul they announced the other day, while it had plenty of names, was pretty low on talent/upside.
