I actually think Hech can improve a ton. The potential is there, I think a lot of people can see why people could be excited about him, it just hasn't completely clicked. But when he is locked in, he sprays hits into the gaps and he is constantly making contact.

Of course you do. Based on nothing, as usual. He started off way above his yet, and yet he's still a below-average offensive player. And he's a neutral defender. Not to mention that's he's 25, which means he likely has just 2-3 years before the defense starts to get worse, in which case he'll go from not-good (0-1 WAR player; well-below-average starter) to bad/awful.

The Marlins should ask Wild Card what potential draftee he is most high on and then make sure not to draft that player. That seems like a good strategy to follow. It's almost as brilliant as the Marlins new strategy of hitting the ball where they ain't.

So basically when Hecchavarria is on a hitting streak, he tends to make contact with the ball and hit it where the fielders ain't standing. That's good to know.

I mean, you're still not arguing anything except that he is ready and so he should be up here.

Here, I'll make the argument for you: it would piss him off, which is bad and can hinder future contract negotiations. Bringing him up would bring more attendance now; also, in a few years we should have a good team otherwise that will lead to good attendance, whereas we have less of that now, and so perhaps bringing Heaney up now will have a greater [marginal/overall] positive impact on attendance. Bringing him up this June would preserve/maximize the chance, however small, at a playoff berth.

Next, you balance that against my "idiotic," "stupid" concerns and argue about which are more persuasive.

There is no argument for what you are saying. You are saying we should keep him in AA for almost 2 years because we might not be any good even though he was ready for the majors just .5 a year into that.

Name me one precedent where a guy was held for not one but two super two deadlines even though he was ready and there wasn't a positional block. Even if we aren't great we aren't going to hold him in AA rather than have him perform well up here. The reason it isn't done is because it is absolutely idiotic. Yes it makes sense to do it for one year and keep him in the minors for two months extra because we can get an extra year on the end of him rather than use him the whole year, but there is no logical argument to keep one of our best pitchers (which is what he will be when he gets here) in the minors for an extra year because we might not be good according to you.

Not only is that not logical but we are probably gonna be good next year with our arms progressing, more young arms coming up, bats developing more and stanton remaining a superstar.

How can you honestly sit here and think its a good idea even if we aren't a great team to keep the top prospect at what is now a position of need over a year and a half past when he is ready to perform well at the major league level. I understand your logic but keeping him in the minors past NEXT years super two deadline is one of the more ridiculous things I've ever heard. Sure it would be great to have him that extra year in the organization but thats not a short amount of time to be keeping him in the minors past when he is ready to contribute.

Without Jose Fernandez for half the year or more, they'd need everything to fall in line perfectly to compete next year. Loria could also try and spend big in free agency, but barring that, they'll need tons of young-player progression + minimal injuries. How much better can Hech really get? 1B and 3B are still holes. 2B is still a huge question mark. Ozuna and Marisnick are still far from sure things.

I don't think you have a good read on the organization if you think they would still need everything to work out perfectly just to compete next year. Our young pitching is fantastic and not only that but it is deep with guys who will be major league ready next year which won't only help our rotation but our bullpen as well.

We have a legitimate superstar in Stanton and promising young players in Yelich Ozuna Marisnick and Dietrich and veterans around them not to mention an entire offseason of time to add to that nucleus possibly from our huge depth of pitching.

I understand it sucks that Jose got hurt but to act like he was the only reason we were 5 games over .500 a few days ago is ridiculous. We have very good young pitching that most teams in the league do not have.

So now you're blending someone elses comments with mine. Cool.

Hech makes contact quite often and has one of the lowest strikeout rates on the team. He actually knows how to handle the bat quite well, it's more about making better contact than he has been. But you probably don't understand the difference between making contact and making good contact because you've never stood in a batters box.

I disagree, but I'm not going to sit here and fight over it too much. I'll just point out that outside of Fernandez, Heaney, and Eovaldi, no one else looks to have front-line starter upside/potential. And none of those 3 are sure things, as pitchers never are, plus they are young and now Fernandez has an injury history.

Heaney update today:

Currently through 7 IP. 1 ER allowed, 1 BB to 7 K's. ERA down to 2.21

not a big fan of this move...pitching in the PCL is a nightmare

I agree.

At the same time, could be something good for him - he's a good pitcher, being in AAA where you have to be an even BETTER pitcher to get good numbers, could turn out to be a good move.

I expect heaney to lose tonight.

I don't think he'll pitch particularly well (level "up", new surroundings) but even if he did, NO isn't very good
