I thought that's what you were implying because the article says we should be sellers, even if we're winning. I thought you were agreeing, my bad. What were you trying to say?

I'm a believer in making projections, trusting that and committing to a process. My projection is that this team isn't a contender, and I won't hurt the future because of a hot start that may or may not sustain. Obviously if they are clearly ahead of pace and killing it in July you might have to pause but this talk is premature as of now and we should have a consensus that Miami needs to put itself in a position to fill some homes to potentially be a playoff team in 2015 and beyond.

Upon review and in addition to my previous response, what are you trying to say exactly?

I'm in it for 2016-2020, not 2014. A few hot months won't alter that vision.

Another strategy that has failed. One in the hand is worth two in the bush. You can't predict the future. Winning now is how you build a fan base, generate revenues, encourage players to want come play here, develop a winning attitude, and have something to work for in the future. They have a team that could compete this year (we'll know for sure after this road trip). To sacrifice that for a possibly that they could be good later is a fallacy. You only do that if they truly suck, which would give credence to focusing on the future considering there would be no present.

Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush is such a dumb saying when it comes to most life situations. Just thought I would point that out.

Actually, it's not. Dumb is ignoring what you have certainty about. Food for thought. ;-)

OK great. So you should never attempt to better your life because, hey, you have what you have. At least you are certain that it sucks and isn't death.

No thanks. I'll look at every situation and not lump them all into one group. Then I will do what every reasonable human being does and assess the risk/reward and go from there. Bird in the hand...f*** birds they s*** on my car.

What does one have to do with the other? You don't need to give up what you have to get something else.

Yes you do. Family, friends, time, stable job. The saying is dumb and has been extended to life when its meant for hunting.

I really just don't like this saying. I think its dumb, and a goal in life is to let everyone know how I feel about it.

Fair enough. It's your opinion and certainly have a right to it.

My only point is you have one life. If you're happy with it, then there's no point to giving up the things that make you happy. Anything less than happiness, and you have nothing and, therefore, you have nothing to lose.

What's in the hand is happiness. If what you have makes you happy stick with it. If it doesn't make you happy, you really have nothing so you push for something.

Like the Marlins, I'm happy with how they're playing. I not interested in tomorrow because we have something good going now.

I, for one, don't like to live in a fantasy. I like to have as many facts as possible and have the best understanding of a situation as possible.

I just disagree. Remember, McGehee is arb eligible next year, Salty is here for 3 years, and Jones/Baker are under contract for two years. If this team shows life, signs that it's ready to compete now or very soon, you should stick with it. We don't have any one year rentals outside of Furcal, and everyone has exceeded expectations for pennies. Their value wouldn't be super high, anyway.

You should watch some videos about factory farming, then.

Stable job? Just trade options and retire at 30. Easy game.

That's fine. We don't have to agree on team building philosophy. I know my Approach isn't typical and nearly everyone will approach team building with a present vision. It's human nature.

But, my vision is not based on the present. It's entirely based on the fact that every single starting position player, and starting pitcher, is under club control next year. It's not like you're suggesting to move rentals, you're suggesting to move players that will be here again next year ready to compete.

You ascribe value to certain players and if they are overvalued on the market by a desperate contender, you look into making a move. We also have to take into account payment and resources. A closer at Cishek's soon to be price isn't as valuable as other positions that can help this team more going forward.

I would move McGhee, Saltalamacchia, Jones, Baker, Cishek, Alvarez, Turner, Koehler, Dunn, Slowey, and Marmol at the deadline without a second thought. For Alvarez and Cishek I would want a premium return, for the rest I would take whatever we could get, as long as they took the money from Saltalamacchia and Jones of the books.

And throw in the kitchen sink!

It is not likely this team as constructed is a serious contender. Jones and Saltalamacchia make coin but are in reality platoon players on good teams. McGhee is not very good. Baker is the kind of bench player teams go for at the deadline. There is a plethora of young close to ready pitching in the minors. These players would be alot more useful at the deadline when legitimate contenders are desperate to fill that one hole and are willing to overpay than they are to the Marlins.
