December 11, 201411 yr Ya this trade is being unfairly maligned because marlins fans are overrating their own guys. Kike Hernandez was a guy none of you knew before 5 months ago and your opinion on his future would be totally different if he were still on the Astros. He also was never as good as he was last year ever in his career. Barnes is 25 in AA. Hatcher is a relief arm that comes a dime a dozen.
December 11, 201411 yr You're getting closer. They aren't expecting him to be a minor improvement because they suck balls at assessing talent. Look at our draft success for the past decade. Hint: it's awful. Look at the veteran contracts this team has given out recently. Gross. Remember when we acquired kevin gregg...again? This team reeks of shitty management. Ah, yes, but you are the king of evaluating talent on a message board. Im fairly certain they have more knowledge behind their moves then you do.

Our recent draft success has been extremely good, actually.
December 11, 201411 yr Our recent draft success has been extremely good, actually. It really hasn't. Stanton/Fernandez/Ozuna in and of themselves does not equal draft success. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut.
December 11, 201411 yr Please find where I claimed to be king of evaluating talent. Even a court jester like myself can see this trade wasn't a good one. We gave up a higher volume of players than what was likely necessary, yes. However we did not give up a high volume of talent and that's the problem Fish14 and I are having with all the hate. Heaney was the necessary piece, and the rest was whatever. Honestly, the only person that I would have loved to keep in that deal (besides Heaney, Obv) is Chris fucking Hatcher. They had so much time and energy invested in that guy, to see him go after his first successful MLB season kinda sucks.

This is because you know absolutely nothing about baseball and prove that on a daily basis.
December 11, 201411 yr What if he meant "F-ing awesome!" I interepreted it as "Fuck it, I'm done" but he left after typing the "F"
December 11, 201411 yr I interepreted it as "Fuck it, I'm done" but he left after typing the "F" I think he was going to say "FLASH"
December 11, 201411 yr For the record, why I hate losing Austin Barnes so much is pretty simple...he was a 2 for 1. He eliminated the need to use a roster spot on a guy who is just a backup catcher. He was a C/utility guy and would have given the Marlins the opportunity to have either a deeper bench or a longer bullpen.
December 11, 201411 yr This is because you know absolutely nothing about baseball and prove that on a daily basis. Or you're upset because we gave up a fringe prospect in Barnes whom you were in love with. And drafting players like Stanton, Fernandez, and Yelich are not small things. Those are franchise players.
December 11, 201411 yr Those three are players surrounded by a decade of incredibly poor drafting that continues to this day. I am not "in love" with Barnes, but the fact that you cant see what a person with his unique skill set brings to a club, it just furthers my point you know jack shit about the game.

He brings a unique skill set if he actually performs well, which considering he is 25 in AA and not exactly a superstar is very hard to believe he will do. He could play all the positions in the world, if he does none of them well and doesnt hit he is not as valuable as you think he is.
December 11, 201411 yr Those three are players surrounded by a decade of incredibly poor drafting that continues to this day And yet those are still three franchise players. How many other teams have three homegrown bonifide franchise players right now?

HOLY FUCK like 6 months ago you two were flipped on your opinions of Barnes! Wild Card loved him and Spike hated him. What's happened?!?! [Maybe exaggerating here but seriously]
December 11, 201411 yr HOLY FUCK like 6 months ago you two were flipped on your opinions of Barnes! Wild Card loved him and Spike hated him. What's happened?!?! [Maybe exaggerating here but seriously] Wild Card doesn't like him anymore because he's not a marlin No, it was exactly as it is right now. I viewed Barnes as nothing more than a utility player at the ML level and Spike professed his undying love for him.
December 11, 201411 yr That was part of the joke. I know, I tried to ruin it like someone did to me in another thread
December 11, 201411 yr No, it was exactly as it is right now. I viewed Barnes as nothing more than a utility player at the ML level and Spike professed his undying love for him. I have never called him anything more than a utility player at the MLB level.
December 11, 201411 yr Speed kills so everyone shut up before Dee kills you. There's a racist joke in there somewhere
