December 11, 201411 yr On a nice downward trajectory ending with a 4.7 over 215 AA innings. He is going to be eaten alive by mlb hitting. Maddux first 4 MiLB seasons K/9 were, 6.5, 6.0, 4.7, 4.6, a downward trend the 5th one he got called up after 28 innings of 7.2 Nicolino first 4 MiLB seasons K/9 are, 10.8, 8.6, 6.0, 4.3, sure Nicolino has more of a downward trend, but Maddux did too. I am not saying He is the next Maddux, I am just giving you what you asked for.

December 11, 201411 yr If it rains and the ground is wet, the ground is wet because it rained. But if the ground is wet, it doesn't automatically mean it rained. Translation... Just cuz the Dodgers got Kendrick for Heaney doesn't automatically mean we could have gotten Kendrick for Heaney. Trades and deals aren't that linear and straight forward.

Just cuz the Dodgers got Kendrick for Heaney doesn't automatically mean we could have gotten Kendrick for Heaney. Trades and deals aren't that linear and straight forward. We absolutely could have and there's 2 reasons why they didn't and I'm not sure which is worse 1) they're a cheap organization acting cheap 2) they actually think gordon is better than kendrick. I think reason 1 dictated this trade primarily.
December 11, 201411 yr Has anyone posted this Sullivan article about how bad the dodgers fleeced us yet? http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/marlins-pay-steep-price-to-not-get-better/ There’s presumably no superstar. But there’s the Marlins giving up a good amount of short- and long-term value, and there’s the Marlins not getting meaningfully better in exchange. For Miami, it’s an unnecessary and damaging trade, and for Los Angeles, Andrew Friedman is showing he brought his skills over from Tampa. The Dodgers have more money than almost anyone, and the Dodgers have more prospects than almost anyone. The Marlins did the Dodgers a favor they didn’t need.
December 11, 201411 yr http://m.mlb.com/video/v37044215/friedman-on-dodgers-adding-kendrick-losing-gordon friedman can't hold back his smile about the trade. hill looks like a guy who just made a decision he knows is wrong, but fuck it. People who follow baseball live on two different planets. I think that you and I, along with the majority of these forums, live on the same planet as Andrew Friedman. Tommy Hutton and Michael Hill live on that other shitty planet. I still can't believe this. They got Howie Kendrick. Really?

Tommy Hutton and Michael Hill live on that other shitty planet. I still can't believe this. They got Howie Kendrick. Really? Friedman traded Dee Gordon for Kendrick, Barnes, Hatcher, and Kike. He basically upgraded the dodgers 2b by a fair amount and got the other 3 guys for free. Well done.
December 11, 201411 yr Friedman traded Dee Gordon for Kendrick, Barnes, Hatcher, and Kike. He basically upgraded the dodgers 2b by a fair amount and got the other 3 guys for free. Well done. Must be nice when you can just throw tens of millions around to improve your ballclub. a TV deal worth $300M annualy doesn't hurt either.
December 11, 201411 yr I get the whole analytical part of saying Kike and Dietrich could have equaled Dee Gordon's production in 2015... but that's in a vacuum assuming things that aren't exactly happening. Realistically the Marlins send Dietrich to the minors or send him off in a minor trade and just use Kike as a "versatile super utility bench guy" with Solano again as the guy who gets most of the playing time. I don't see how that isn't a factor here. Yeah we gave up too much for Gordon, I agree with that. But its not out of the question that a full year of Gordon is an upgrade over Solano starting a 140 games with Kike as a spot starter and Dietrich getting a few games in as a September call up. You can't just say Kike/Dietrich = Gordon without realizing the way this team operates as it pertains to Solano/Kike/Dietrich.

December 11, 201411 yr The fact is a guy with control (4 years) is more valuable to the Marlins than a guy with one year (Kendrick). You can hate that reality and I wouldn't blame you. But seeing as it IS the reality of how this team is run right now, trading Heaney for 1 year of Kendrick wouldn't have been too smart either.
December 11, 201411 yr The trade is done.....either keep pouting OR get on board and support the Marlins!
December 11, 201411 yr What does that have to do with the fish giving up more for the worse 2b? We gave up "more" to obtain some cash to use in FA.....the Dodgers don't have to give up assets for cash, they can just go out and sign McCarthy with toilet paper.
December 11, 201411 yr We gave up "more" to obtain some cash to use in FA.....the Dodgers don't have to give up assets for cash, they can just go out and sign McCarthy with toilet paper. FA RHP Brandon McCarthy signs with @Dodgers for a 4 year supply of toilet paper. #Sources say it IS 2-ply but the brand of paper is unspecified. Details to come. #ToiletPaper.
December 11, 201411 yr We gave up "more" to obtain some cash to use in FA.....the Dodgers don't have to give up assets for cash, they can just go out and sign McCarthy with toilet paper. The marlins sold prospects to the dodgers and that's all there is to it regarding this "trade." In the post Stanton signing world, you'd think this idiotic way to run a franchise would have changed a bit. And I'll believe it when I see it regarding the "reinvestment"
December 11, 201411 yr Friedman traded Dee Gordon for Kendrick, Barnes, Hatcher, and Kike. He basically upgraded the dodgers 2b by a fair amount and got the other 3 guys for free. Well done. Well this I 100% agree with. The Dodgers won this and made a beautiful pair of deals. I just can't agree that the Marlins completely lost in this either. Comparing this to the Cabrera trade is wrong.
December 11, 201411 yr Friedman traded Dee Gordon for Kendrick, Barnes, Hatcher, and Kike. He basically upgraded the dodgers 2b by a fair amount and got the other 3 guys for free. Well done. The only downside is that Kendrick has a year remaining on his contract, but they have the ability to resign him. I still don't get it. The only thing I'll say about Gordon is that he was pretty consistent splits-wise. That 4 walks in the second half has to be an aberration.

Comparing this to the Cabrera trade is wrong. Yeah when the Cabrera trade happened there was actually perception that we got players of value.

The only thing I'll say about Gordon is that he was pretty consistent splits-wise. That 4 walks in the second half has to be an aberration. Exactly. In a post Stanton world Kendrick is exactly the kind of player you give a deal to. The abberation is only off by about 5 or 6 more walks I'm afraid. Gordon's 45% BUH% last year is probaby the only really positive thing I can say about him besides the SBs (he still gets caught too much)
December 11, 201411 yr I'm not sure they should've given Stanton a 600 zillion contract if they're in a position where they needed to sell off prospects in order to get an extra starter and 1B.
December 11, 201411 yr Suddenly you know the marlins would have traded DD anyways even without a starter at 2b. The complaints here are about how the FO doesn't know how to utilize talent on the field or in trades. So DD in the minors or traded is still dumb, and still shows poor management. It's not out of the question, but the risk is high and the reward is maybe 1.5 WAR. That's dumb. The point is the misuse of Dietrich is a reality here. The Marlins aren't giving that guy a chance. They never have and they never will. Gordon is an upgrade over Solano. Period. There's no Dietrich here (according to this front office) and Kike was a utility guy (again, according to this front office).
December 11, 201411 yr Even if we are talking about solano, the marlins gave up too much to improve over solano by 1 WAR. OMG you're so right. I'm gonna go cry now.
