April 14, 201511 yr It's what we do. I'm fine by it. I'm more concerned with our super below avg SP HOW ARE OUR STARTING PITCHERS BELOW AVERAGE! LOOK AT THE DAMN NUMBERS! One time so far we have had a starter that has given up more than 3 runs. Well, two but one time the guy had thrown out his shoulder and was injured. Seriously, pitching is NOT the problem right now.
April 14, 201511 yr I'll give you this, we've had better lineups around Stanton on paper [2012, going in anyways]. But even then, lived and died with Giancarlo. The problem is usually the depth. Look at the bottom of our order now (not good). Look at the bottom of the order in 2012, and it wasn't good either. It is what it is. Stanton's the best hitter on the team, and when you take the best hitter on the team out of the equation, most lineups aren't very good. One thing that doesn't help is this organization's mindset regarding platoons. And by mindset, I mean they don't believe in them at all. It's ridiculous.
April 14, 201511 yr Harkening back to last year, i like stanton. But come on, he IS overrated. But nobody and i mean positively nobody in baseball is worth $325 mil. Not him, trout, scherzer, kershaw nobody. Worst hitter now? No. Thats gattis. But one of them? Yes. Along with salty, hech, and arguably ozuna. If the offense shows up we would be 5-2. You're a nice guy and all but sometimes....

The lineup doesn't have to be worldbeaters 1-9. Granted it's not great having a black hole 7-9, but 1-6 should be at least producing well enough that if one of those guys is slumping it's fine, even if it is the team's best hitter.

On the year as a whole, I agree, we have done nothing around him, he has seen shit pitches, and he has pressed, tried to do too much, and struck out a bunch. Tonight though, we got on base consistently in front of him and what did he do? Nothing. In fact not only did he do nothing but he looked like absolute shit. That last at bat was very disturbing to me. Looked at a pitch right down the middle, then swung at a complete pitcher's pitch, breaking ball on the outside black. Then stared at strike three. The meatball he got on the 2-0 was a pitch he would have hit 900 feet last year. I really don't know what was going on there and on the night as a whole for him. It's not just him though like I said. Everyone else in the lineup is doing the same: keeping the bat on their shoulder when they should be swinging. Look at the last AB by Baker. Look at various other ABs throughout the night. It has to be a fact of hitting coaches telling these guys to take pitches. That's the only explanation. There is not a reason in the world we should not have had at least 5 more hits tonight if we would have just taken the bats off our fucking shoulders.
April 14, 201511 yr We have yet to face a legitimate offense. But they are a problem so far. Even though they've given up more than 3 runs twice. Get out of here, dude.
April 14, 201511 yr Mark my words, Latos for Disco is going to look extremely silly 2-3 years from now.
April 14, 201511 yr Yo dawg yr so wrong it hurts. His 2014 drop was DRAMATIC. 2013: avg FB velocity 92.5 2014: avg FB velocity 90.7 Yes but he was also hurt last year.
April 14, 201511 yr No team should look this bad at any point during the year. Our 8-game losing streak last year looked infinitely better than this. Those were dark times as well
April 14, 201511 yr oh shit just watched that yelich catch. Latos should have given up 5-6 runs Good defense happens. And how do you get off saying HE should have given up those many runs when two of them were allowed to cross by Dyson? Yes they are charged to his line. But you're basing Latos' talent level this year on the fact that he had a bad outing out of the gate then had four runs charged to him on a night where he sat through 1.5 hours of rain delays. Come on, man. You're better than that.
April 14, 201511 yr Author No team should look this bad at any point during the year. Our 8-game losing streak last year looked infinitely better than this. Yeah, at least during that streak the team was hitting and showing signs of life. We just had a thing called Carlos Marmol and another thing called Henry Rodriguez that came out of the bullpen.
April 14, 201511 yr You're a nice guy and all but sometimes.... Im just so frustrated like everyone else here. We wait five months for the sport we love (for the team we love). Once december hit and we got these guys i thought here we go, finally we are going to do something. It really is a shame when i put the game on and i see 0,1,2 runs. That game last tuesday still feels like a bad toothache. I thought on friday okay well now we are coming around and nothing since then. Based on that disaster, are we 1-6? Or an 0-7 team that happens to be 1-6? Its vomit inducing these first 7 games. And this is only after atlanta and tampa. What the hell are the mets going to do us when we get them?
April 14, 201511 yr Mark my words, Latos for Disco is going to look extremely silly 2-3 years from now. I really wish this forum still had signatures. Cuz I'd put this in mine and leave it there for the remainder of at least this year. @Admin make it happen.
April 14, 201511 yr The wife is screwed tonight. Literally, angry sex tonight. See you all tomorrow. Peace out!
April 14, 201511 yr His velocity is the same this year as 2014 If he is still throwing only 89-91 5 starts from now then maybe but I would give him time to loosen up.

Come on, man. You're better than that. I'm basing his talent level on the fact that he will never be pre-2014 Latos which is what our idiot FO thought they'd get. Maybe he figures out how not to hang his shitty slider, but that's about the best we can hope for, a number 3/4 SP.
April 14, 201511 yr If he is still throwing only 89-91 5 starts from now then maybe but I would give him time to loosen up. I guarantee it won't increase. Fastball velocity doesn't increase like that (his slider might get better). Look it up.
