June 9, 201511 yr ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sigh...more high school players despite the fact that our team is in desperate need of upper level prospects. Looks like he was projected to be in the 100s so another guy the fish can under slot.I love our team!
June 9, 201511 yr Author Looks like he was projected to be in the 100s so another guy the fish can under slot.I love our team! I think it's a combination of saving money, and the FO falling in love with one tool. Naylor is all power, and now White is all speed. Oh yeah, that and left handed pitching. They love that also. Hopefully, for the Marlins and our sake they can develop. As I said earlier, it's so hard to give these guys the benefit of the doubt that we have to be sinical about every move they make.
June 9, 201511 yr Taking a 17 year old high schooler with only 1 plus tool at 1B at #12 is absolutely horrible value regardless whether he pans out.
June 9, 201511 yr Taking a 17 year old high schooler with only 1 plus tool at 1B at #12 is absolutely horrible value regardless whether he pans out. Exactly. Even if Naylor ends up making it to the bigs and hitting home runs, there were ~40 players available who had at least two plus tools or that fit a more urgent need for the organization. Here are the things Naylor is good at: power hitting. That's it. That's where the sentence ends.
June 9, 201511 yr Yeah cause it's sensible to spend money on a team that averages 20,000 a game... ...really? That's what you're going with?
June 9, 201511 yr ...really? That's what you're going with? It's a crapshoot. The draft that is and we're all acting like know it all so. Mike Piazza was passed on by 30 mlb teams 40 TIMES. Spare me...
June 9, 201511 yr It's a crapshoot. The draft that is and we're all acting like know it all so. Mike Piazza was passed on by 30 mlb teams 40 TIMES. Spare me... It is most certainly a crap shoot, but you still want to give yourself a better shot at the good crap. Guys with five tools often times end up being guys with no tools at the MLB level, but sometimes five tool guys end up seeing two or three of their tools transfer to the highest level. A guy with one tool though? He needs that one tool to be absolutely exceptional in order to have any shot to make it to the bigs. I know any player drafted realistically has to have a lot go right to ever make it to even a 40-man roster, but you at least take the player more likely to make an impact.
June 9, 201511 yr Yeah cause it's sensible to spend money on a team that averages 20,000 a game... If you never win, you never give people the incentive to go. It's not the fanbases fault that the Marlins have the longest streak of not making the playoffs in the NL, and maybe in both leagues.
June 9, 201511 yr Poteet seems okay but this draft is pretty stupid so far. You act like this is a surprise ?
June 9, 201511 yr HEY GUYS MAYBE THEY'RE SAVING THE $ ON THIS SHITTY ASS DRAFT PICKS SO THEY CAN MAKE A BIG FA SP SIGNING THIS OFF SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 9, 201511 yr Isn't he like the best power bat in the draft though? Or one of them? He was the best power bat- and I think that was the mRlins thinking. His hitting and power should only continue to rise. I I hope he eliminates most of his leg kick, but if he develops to the bigs- he'll at least end up like a Matt Reynolds type- all power but low AVG and high K. That's a low ceiling for him numbers wise. He's also supposedly very advanced at hitting for a Hs- a quick bat. I hope he continues to hit for average and firm up. We've had a pretty good run with Powerful Bi-Racial Angels.
June 9, 201511 yr People who critique the mlb draft the day after it happens are the worst kind of people. You are literally criticizing the front office for picking players that you yourself have never seen one pitch of

June 9, 201511 yr Well, exactly. It kind of has major holes to fill in every area. They probably have the worst farm system in baseball right now. That's why you don't try to address one specific gap apparent right now and draft the best player available. Supposedly he can move up quickly thought the minors- if his power translates to a wood bat (the Marlins worked him out a few times, I'm sure they made sure he used one)... He can be a powerful force in the lineup- and a powerful force out on the base paths. He just needs to tighten up, start trying o hit for average- and let his power continue to grow naturally.

You are literally criticizing the front office for picking players that you yourself have never seen one pitch of I saw video of our first pick and you can't teach strength. That kid can cream Paul Bunyon style. I'm excited...
