Scott McGough Called Up

Recommended Posts

This is the other guy we got in the trade that brought Eovaldi to the Marlins from Los Angeles.

He's pretty bad.

Yeah I know who he is but have no idea why he's up over wittgren. He doesn't throw hard like those other guys called up (wittgren doesnt either) and really has shitty stuff all around. His k/bb rate this year is hilarious. He's basically a poor man's rienzo

Yeah, he's posted FIPs in the 5s this year in different minor league stints.

Shit, give Ichiro a chance to pitch before bringing this clown in. Knowing our manager, McGough will come in for close and late situations, either making a one run deficit into a blowout or taking a lead and shitting all over it.

Hey Frisaro, is McGough part of the core?

I'm gonna laugh when Wittgren busts and you nerds are proven wrong.

Well that's a nice statement. Hey, here's a thought. Maybe you shouldn't comment on Wittgren if you haven't actually followed any of his minor league career.

His numbers have warranted a call up since May. He deserves a call up well before the AAAA players who shouldn't have any legitimate shot of making a major league bullpen next season.

This isn't stat "nerds" (which is an awful phrase in and of itself), it's people who actually pay attention to the team and want the best players getting opportunities at the big league level seeing garbage players get opportunities before a player who actually has a legitimate future in a major league bullpen (and imo a closer at that).

I have a feeling Wittgren is coming up as a September call up, which is fine given the season's a wash anyway. But there's legitimate reason for people to make jokes every time somebody gets the call over Wittgren. He's a college tested closer with 200+ IP under his belt, a 2.23 ERA and a stellar season this year. There's a reason he gets some hype. He's pretty good.

Well we got Eovaldi in that deal too and we spun Eovaldi off for Prado and Phelps so you can't just forget them.

Wouldn't exactly call that a win. Traded Hanley at his lowest value. Traded Eo at a somewhat low value. Got a #5 starter/long reliever in Phelps, a past his prime 3B in Prado, and a guy whose MLB ceiling seems to be a Sam Dyson type.

Hanley isn't exactly lighting the world on fire right now, but it 100% stands that the move reeks of a salary purge more than an attempt to improve the team's future. That's a big problem with a lot of moves this team has done the last decade or so.
