November 16, 201510 yr Author Is Cespedes still being talked about within the FO? His demands were "obscene". Unless those change, very unlikely even with Loria's love affair.
November 16, 201510 yr His demands were "obscene". Unless those change, very unlikely even with Loria's love affair. Loria's forbidden love gets away. It's definitely for the better though. I'm also gonna guess this is where our interest in Fowler is now stemming from.
November 16, 201510 yr if we trade ozuna then go w fowler then lololol. conor gallapsie would probably be just as "good" as fowler
November 16, 201510 yr if we trade ozuna then go w fowler then lololol. conor gallapsie would probably be just as "good" as fowler Cole Gillespie would probably be better than Conor Gallaspie.
November 16, 201510 yr He could be the Marlins fourth Korean player, after the great's Choi, Kim and Phelps
November 16, 201510 yr Cole Gillespie would probably be better than Conor Gallaspie. Conor Gallaspie > Cole Gillespie
November 16, 201510 yr Not that it was smart or even realistic to begin with but "Sign Cespedes and trade Ozuna for starting pitching" sure sounded a whole lot better than "Sign Fowler and trade Ozuna for whatever we can get." But of course, it's the Marlins with Loria making the decisions again. Fuck this.
November 16, 201510 yr His demands were "obscene". Unless those change, very unlikely even with Loria's love affair. well you know what pisses me the fuck off? Loria could have had him for cheap(er) when he first defected, but always puts these fucking lowball limits on what he's willing to throw down like he's playing cards with his friends at home. In 2012, not only did we have an outfield that had Logan Morrison and Emilio Bonifacio, we also had playoff aspirations-each makes the other impossible. How did it not make sense to bring in a power outfield bat that came greatly discounted from his american peers? I don't usually rant about Loria because I get that most of this is because the dumbasses in Miami would rather go clubbing 4 times a week than watch a baseball game, but he's just so stupid. You bring fucking fiesta dancing girls to introduce the team in 2012, and put a fucking cuban sandwich shop in the stadium because you want to appeal to the cuban community, but then treat this new crop of cuban talent as if you were bidding for fucking Jamey Carroll. After Chapman showed you that it's stupid to not expect cuban talent to translate, you need to go all the fuck out on Cespedes, Puig, and Abreu. Whatever, you know they would have traded Cespedes in 2012 anyway. But I'll never understand how they passed on Abreu then gave Morse 16 million dollars. Abreu is my white Buffalo. Sorry guys, this is necessary for me every couple of months lol. Idk why i care.
November 16, 201510 yr Miami and Oakland offered Cespedes the same amount of money in 2011/12... Cespedes chose Oakland. Loria did nothing wrong back then.
November 16, 201510 yr Author Miami and Oakland offered Cespedes the same amount of money in 2011/12... Cespedes chose Oakland. Loria did nothing wrong back then. We offered 6/36 they offered 4/36. I thought our offer was fair at the time but they did offer a better deal.
November 16, 201510 yr We offered 6/36 they offered 4/36. I thought our offer was fair at the time but they did offer a better deal. That's what it was! @SilverBullet1929 So yeah, as Admin says, the offer was fair, but as I said earlier, they always throw these low deals like they're the yankees. People won't accept your low offer "to be a part of something". We aren't "something". You're talking about him being paid 6 Mill this year instead of possibly around 20. His agent would never let him do that. 9 Million dollars for a power hitting outfielder, a position of dire need at the time, is absolutely nothing. Why not just match the offer? Or better yet, beat it by a million. I doubt the agent didn't come asking for their highest and best, and hinted that they didn't have it. And this was after the Pujols Sweepstakes, so dropping 9 mill to bolster the lineup would have seemed like chump change. Again, i'm not a habitual Loria hater, but he should at least be consistent with his stupidity.
November 16, 201510 yr Miami and Oakland offered Cespedes the same amount of money in 2011/12... Cespedes chose Oakland. Loria did nothing wrong back then. Plus I really doubt that all things the same, a newly rich young Cuban chooses Oakland over Miami (cuba). I mean it's not even like it's New York or Chicago. It's fucking Oakland lol. Even the A's don't want to be there.
November 16, 201510 yr I know what the offer was... but I said the money was the same. Yes the years were different but the money was the same. Despite basically being at the time only a YouTube video sensation, there was no guarantee Cespedes would be a superstar. Loria's offer was fair, as were the years. If Cespedes liked the Oakland deal better, that's fine, that was his choice but in no way does it say the Marlins low balled him. Point is, I don't think you can look at what the Marlins offered him and call it a low ball offer at all. Not even close. I also think you are looking at this through 2015 eyes because you see what Cespedes has done the past four seasons. At the time I don't remember anyone saying the Marlins offer wasn't a good one. Even then, one could say the Marlins was much better from a team standpoint. If everything had worked out in 2012, Cespedes would still be here until the end of 2017. If we assume his numbers would be the same (for the sake of argument), we'd have gotten Cespedes' best years (2014-15) plus two additional ones, without having to overspend like some team is gonna have to do in 2015 to get him for the next six years. As for why he chose Oakland its 100% because he could get more money per year and hit free agency sooner. There's no question that all things equal he'd rather play in Miami. The team, the city, the culture, the ballpark. There's no comparison... even if you can't stand Loria. As for comparing it to Pujols. How could that comparison make any sense? In 2012 Albert Pujols was a legitimate MLB mega star finally going into free agency for the first time and Yoenis Cespedes was a mysterious Cuban defector with a cool Youtube video that no one was sure would pan out. Remember he came before Abreu and Puig. There were no Cuban defecting hitters before him to compare him to. Just because they were willing to spend money on Pujols doesn't mean they should have been willing to spend a similar amount on Cespedes. But again, to sum this up. There's a million things to bitch about Loria for... his offer to Cespedes in 2011/12 is not at all one of them.
November 16, 201510 yr You're talking about him being paid 6 Mill this year instead of possibly around 20. His agent would never let him do that. In 2011/12 when nobody even knew if he could hit major league pitching, 6 million a year sounded pretty damn good to him and his agent. To think Cespedes could be paid just 6 million in 2016 and 2017 is ridiculous but only if you're looking at it now in the present time with the numbers he's put up the last two seasons. Back then that money was fine because he was nothing but a gamble.

There's a million things to bitch about Loria for... his offer to Cespedes in 2011/12 is not at all one of them. I've never understood why Cuban players are a mystery, despite having had so many dominant players come from the dominican. While american kids are at school and playing little league on the weekends, these dudes are playing 2 and 3 nine inning games every other day. They've played more baseball by the time they're 12 than some dudes that play through college. If you're hitting .380 with 40 jacks like cespedes had been doing, clearly there will be a significant drop, but the dude obviously knows what he's doing. Obviously we did not know for sure what we would be getting, but a team who's low on money like us can't wait for the guaranteed studs, those cost 20 mill. So when this situation comes up, you take the risk. Everytime. Also, come on man, I would never compare Cespedes to Pujols. He didn't and never will command pujols money. I'm just saying after we didn't get pujols, he should have at least taken the risk, given it was not an exorbitant amount of money, to help solidify a team we all knew was missing pieces. I get that exorbitant is relative given he was a wild card, but come on. But who cares about that, in the end, 2012 had way bigger problems that one bat. But, at the time he did not know that. Lol how did we get so off topic from Ah-Seop son? Who, by the way, was officially posted yesterday. Anyone heard anything?
November 24, 201510 yr Today, KBO official said, there is no bidding team on Ah Seop Son. Shocking news to korean MLB fans.
November 24, 201510 yr I get so fucking tired of seeing a Cuban community like Miami pass on Cuban talent time after fucking time. Fuck this Loria shit
