December 1, 201510 yr "Co Hitting Coaches" is almost definitely a title for the media to enjoy and to not have Bonds sound like he's someone's bitch.... He's still gonna be below Menechino in decision-making I presume?
December 1, 201510 yr He's still gonna be below Menechino in decision-making I presume? Publicly, they will be touted as equals. in reality, Bonds will work with a smaller subset of players which is how most assistant hitting coaches are handled.
December 1, 201510 yr So is this a done deal now? Bonds hasn't signed any papers yet, ball is in his court though he is fully expected to sign.
December 1, 201510 yr There's no way Bonds is gonna be above Menechino so it's gotta be a matter of wording his title. The assistant title may not appear but he's clearly the second in command here. Also Frisaro says Loria and Bonds have a friendship. Amazing how many baseball people are considered friends with Loria considering the way the fans feel about him. "Friendship" = Loria spends some of the money he saved on paying actual players by taking Bonds out for steak dinners at Prime 112.
December 1, 201510 yr This reminds me of when Magic Johnson became a coach and was super frustrated that guys couldn't play like him. Why isn't solano hitting bombs I taught him everything I know?!?!?
December 1, 201510 yr I kind of like this idea. Bonds a hitting coach??? He will need to have patience thats for sure.
December 1, 201510 yr they should probably just platoon bonds with bour The man knows how to get on base
December 1, 201510 yr "If they can agree on terms this could happen" Um, if they agree on terms, obviously it WOULD happen.
December 1, 201510 yr Ken Rosenthal with a good point for those who think this is only a Loria publicity stunt... he says Bonds is too smart and "savvy" to be used as only a publicity stunt. If he agrees it's because he's convinced its a legitimate commitment and worth moving out of the Bay Area for. Even with the stigma Bonds has with some people, this is getting a lot of positive press as a good move and one than can work well for both Bonds and the team.
December 1, 201510 yr "If they can agree on terms this could happen" Um, if they agree on terms, obviously it WOULD happen. "So do you agree to this contract?" "Yes" "Good" "When do I start?" "Start what?" "The job that I just agreed to..." "Oh, no...that was just practice. You don't work here." "..." "Security..." -Marlins Business
December 1, 201510 yr Bonds would immediately become one of the Top 10 hitting coaches in baseball. Well, he's the Top 1 hitter of all time, so he has work to do to catch up with his coaching.
December 1, 201510 yr Bonds would immediately become one of the Top 10 hitting coaches in baseball. Maybe our best one since the late great bill robinson
December 1, 201510 yr Maybe our best one since the late great bill robinson Do we still blame him for things around here? Ahh, good times.
