March 31, 201610 yr As a collective, I would take the Marlins outfield over that Mets outfield any day. And regardless of OPS I would take Dee and Hech over Walker and Cabrera in a heartbeat. I don't disagree. I take our lineup over the Muts this year for sure.. They blow us away pitching wise though

March 31, 201610 yr Mets > any team with that has Mathis, hand, Jackson regardless of both position players and pitchers. *drops the microphone*
March 31, 201610 yr Mets > any team with that has Mathis, hand, Jackson regardless of both position players and pitchers. *drops the microphone* Honestly, you should just drop the Marlins. How can you be a fan of the team and not even be able to give credit where it's do? The Marlins make more than their fair share of mistakes and stupid decisions but we have a good young core of position players. All three of our OFer's have very high ceilings. I think you are just jaded by "the culture of losing". You've become the crazy fan in the outfield (Randy Quaid) in the movie Major League. I'm not even saying this as an insult or a put down. I'm just amazed that a fan can be so irrationally negative. I know, but Hand, Mathis, etc. LOL. You're still OK in my book Vince.
March 31, 201610 yr There's absolutely no consistency in that Marlins lineup. Gordon had a career year and can either keep that up or regress significantly, Ozuna can't decide whether he wants to be a productive hitter or a waste of a roster spot (his attitude and effort hurts his future), Stanton has struggled to stay healthy a full season (and is an inconsistent hitter at that, although his hot streaks make him a great hitter), Hechavarria is a detriment because he can't get on base, has no power and doesn't steal bases, Realmuto's best season was a single .800 OPS season in AA and thus we have no idea what we have in him, Bour doesn't get enough production to be a league average 1st baseman hitting wise, Prado is getting old and declining, and Yelich started last season horribly. Now that I've thrown out all the negatives first, I will say there's a lot of positives as well. Yelich is a great hitter, Ozuna is a great hitter when he wants to be. Stanton is one of the 5 best hitters in baseball. Realmuto has tons of potential and having a 24 year old catcher starting already is impressive, Bour was grabbed in the Rule V Draft and has performed better than we ever could've dreamed, Hechavarria improved his contact ability tremendously last season, Prado is a good veteran bat to have in the lineup, and Dee Gordon's league best speed should make him a .300 hitter every year of his career. If I'm going to be honest, the negatives are more likely with many of these players than the positives, but we don't know yet. The thing however that this team lacks is depth and consistency at every spot. That kind of stuff is why we're poised to finish in 3rd place in the division and somewhere between 75 and 80 wins.
March 31, 201610 yr If the Marlins score 5 a gAme I will be happy. PAPA JOHNS! Honestly, you should just drop the Marlins. We basically just laugh and move on. The culture of losing crap never gets old though. @dim thanks for posting the .OPS numbers that was great. Marlins Lineup I think beats the Nationals and Mets. Where the teams beat us is in overall depth in all areas especially in pitching. What scares me the most is a close game going in to the 7th inning. Whether we are up by 1 run, tied or down by a run or two. Having Dunn, Jackson, Breslow or even McGowan pitch meaningful innings is a heat attack waiting to happen for us. I do think the Mets starting rotation is on some elite stuff. Like @Das Texan said their CF defense will be a joke, just like the Padres was coming in to last year. But they don't have to score a ton of runs to go out and dominate, if Harvey is himself along with Degrom, Matz, and Thor you can't ask for anything else. Heck even on a bad day they still have a really good chance on winning. If anything we have a better chance at passing the Nationals, but our health will dictate that. Ozuna is due for a nice bounce back. Yelich has notorious slow starts. We just can't have that this year. I don't think Gordon repeats what he did, especially because it's really hard to do what he did in the first place but I think he will be okay. Stanton is all about staying healthy. The one guy who hasn't looked good is Bour. Unless he starts walking a lot more, his worth won't be much.

And their lineup made less than zero sense. at least with the Mets they have a leadoff hitter who has succeeded in that role in the past. I assume (and I havent looked) that their lineup will have some type of flow to it, which will make sense.
March 31, 201610 yr Granderson has shown that he will take the walk. Pesky guy that drove us nuts. Although his average wasn't high his OBP was where it needed to be. They really don't have anyone else to hit lead off. I think their offense will be middle of the pack.
March 31, 201610 yr The Mets have way better pitching depth than we do, and their overall pitching talent as a whole is stronger. Outside of Jose I'm not sold on the rest of the guys.
April 1, 201610 yr How am I mega troll? Seriously, what the heck? We should have a Marlins trivia contest here. I will own all. Except for topic on analytics.

April 1, 201610 yr Easy Carl barger wore number 5 and retired at the conclusion of his death. I do believe this number was unretired maybe 2 years ago. Question, name any Marlins player who has worn 42? And no it's not a bang zip zip zook joke as all Marlins wear 42 on 4/15. Hint: ironically, one of them is white.

I remember Dennis Cook wearing it (and also hitting a home run to dead center field, if I recall correctly). Who else? Here's another one: not counting Spring Training, what's the highest jersey number worn by a Marlin and who was it?

April 1, 201610 yr I'll guess Beckett at 61. Can't think of too many over that. Conley also wears 61, but no that's not it.
April 1, 201610 yr First year marlin rich Rodriguez wore #42. But the white man is Dennis cook. Correct.
April 1, 201610 yr Okay, I got one. Benito Santiago was the first Marlins player to hit a homer. Against San Francisco. All of you probably know this. But who was the second?
April 1, 201610 yr The spoon dog. He pitched awesome for us in 2003. I will go with #89. You're right about Spoon Dog, but it was #91.
April 1, 201610 yr First year marlin rich Rodriguez wore #42. But the white man is Dennis cook. Correct. Holy shit, I forgot that Rich Rodriguez existed.
April 1, 201610 yr Okay, I got one. Benito Santiago was the first Marlins player to hit a homer. Against San Francisco. All of you probably know this. But who was the second? Tom Koehler? But really: was it Benito Santiago again?
April 1, 201610 yr Tom Koehler? But really: was it Benito Santiago again? Nope junior Felix. Spooned barger was #91?! Shit!
