May 18, 201610 yr Garbage road trip. We were in every game and lost 4. Weren't we just on a 3 game win streak? Regardless of what anyone says, calling this Stanton thing a "slump" is ridiculous. The way he is hitting is unacceptable. He has become a negative. He constantly goes up there is big situations, makes absolutely no adjustments, and continues to swing at pitches that pretty much no other hitter on the team swings at. But we are supposed to accept it because it's Stanton. Guys slump all the time but it has gotten pathetic. A "slump" is not going up there and allowing pitchers to get away with throwing pitches that aren't remotely close to being strikes and looking like a guy who has no business in the majors. Thats a more fundamental issue, not a slump.

At the very least get him to second and give us two shots and driving him in.

May 18, 201610 yr I'd imagine him striking out 9 out of his last 10 abs is a career worst 10 ab stretch Probably hasn't gone 9 for 10 before (I don't know) but he has these stretches with no pitch recognition when he struggles and keeps chasing sliders in the dirt. Then he draws a walk or two and becomes a god for a little while.

But a 325M player has no business looking like what Stanton is looking like, ever. His pitch recognition skills are just awful right now. He needs to get his shit together because his ineptitude right now is just killing this team.

He's killing this team. We can't live or die based on when Giancarlo wants to look like a major league hitter. Even when he's not doing well he needs to be able to execute certain small fundamental things to help his team. That seems to be too much to ask of him right now.

Also, before we criticize him for making $325 million, let's keep in mind that the contract is backloaded & he'll probably be traded to the Dodgers for 3 irrelevant minor leaguers before he starts earning big money. This year, he's basically getting paid what we're paying Jarrod Saltalamacchia to play for the Tigers.

That seems to be too much to ask of him right now. I agree with this. Giancarlo is playing real good in the field though. At least he hasn't taken his struggles at the plate on to the field with him.

When that happens he is an absolute monster. Whatever it takes they need to get him to do that consistently and the frustrating thing is that I think he can. And first start by moving up half a step or so in the box.

May 18, 201610 yr this is my guess on what part of the issue is He hit a home run the following at bat, and he was struggling prior to that. If anything, that collision woke his ass up for an at bat. It is most definitely has nothing to do the with the collision
May 18, 201610 yr I think Stanton right now has an inner boil going on where if he's at a two strike count where he's already swung at least at one pitch way outside or in the dirt, out of sheer anger and desperation he's going to swing at the next pitch no matter where it is. Call it frustration, a WTF attitude, he's just giving up on all semblance of even trying to maintain plate discipline. You know he's going to do it, and sure enough he goes ahead and does it. The problem is that he's been doing this with bags loaded, runners at second and third, always RISP opportunities.
