Wonder if there's any lingering aches and pains from his collision with Ozuna/the wall that have impacted on his swinging ability?

No, he homered the next at bat, so I can't say that was the problem.

Meh ... is what it is with Stanton.

He just needs to suck it up and spend a day with Barry. Let Barry walk through the last 10 at bats with him and talk about what his approach would've been and what he would've been looking for. Because there's no reason these guys should be tying him up with 90 mph fastballs AND making him look stupid with off-speed stuff. IMO he should've been looking for the 3-2 change up he K'd on from Hellickson. You aren't going to get a fastball in a 1 run ball game and a 3-2 count. If that what hes looking for, he's going to be wrong 70-80% of the time

Once the league adjusts to the Phillies they won't have these types of results. Unless of course the Phillies readjust to the league.

The old Ed Lucas approach.

I hate the Phillies. It makes no sense to have lost four of six to them especially watching them and realizing we were literally a break or two away from taking most of those losses. I understand their pitching has been strong but still, fuck them. That's my analysis.

I agree with this. But a 325M player has no business looking like what Stanton is looking like, ever. His pitch recognition skills are just awful right now. He needs to get his shit together because his ineptitude right now is just killing this team.

This was no surprise when he signed that contract. If you all expected him to hit .400 and never strike out just because he's got that contract you understood the deal wrong. With health he'll be amazing through the life of that contract but these types of slumps will probably stick around for the foreseeable future. Remember, when he's good he's really good. It's easy to forget that when he admittedly looks like an idiot through his slumps.

Some pretty stern words from Mattingly today. And I fucking agree.

"The last two days have been really disappointing," manager Don Mattingly said. "I don't think we can put everything on Giancarlo. We had some guys with good at-bats, but we gave a lot of at-bats away. We had a lot of easy outs. We went 1-2-3 [out] four times [in innings] today. We've been a little bit lackadaisical in the field.

"We basically played like a team without any urgency at all the last two days. That's not how you win. That's how you get yourself in the back of the pack," said Mattingly, who appeared more disturbed than by any previous defeat this season.

"We did it twice with the Phillies. We won the first game of the series at our place and we let them win the last two. And then we did it here.

"This is a division that's going to be tough to win, and you just can't afford to give games away. Today felt like one that we just let get away from us."

All my Phillies friends on Facebook are now acting like they won the World Series.  I have half a mind to unfriend some of them.  They are acting like the type of Phillies fans I hate.  What type of fan is that you ask?  Anyone who is a fan of the Phillies

I said it before.  The Marlins are the ultimate dicktease team.  Hang around .500 and no further because of inconsistent play and glaring holes/needs/depth that a cheap owner failed to address in the offseason..  Turning everyone bipolar in the process

Oh come on, you're making a straw man argument. Nobody expects him to hit 400 and never strike out. I'm sure he'll be up among the MLB leaders in strike outs, an acceptable trade off for the prodigious power he provides.  But I'm sorry, this is more than a garden variety slump that we're witnessing. It's completely haywire when he's chasing virtually everything out of the zine and can't put his bat on the ball.

You said a $325 million dollar player shouldn't play like this, I'm just saying this shouldn't be shocking because he's always gone through periods like this, that's all. I actually agree with everything you've said because he looks horrible. I'm just not into the way you worded what u said about his contract. It's not like those $325 million are gonna change the way he slumps, not now at least.

Mattingly should have replaced Stanton with ichiro right after the second strike out. Would have sent a big message

One other thing to note here is that Koehler's velocity from the third inning onward was sitting 92-94 and touched 95. Thats what I remember him being and would like to see going forward.

Hope Donnie's angry would help to the upcoming homestand with the Nats, and I don't know how many "Stanton easy strike out" would coming in the future.

The Marlins have faced the Phillies six times now, including three games in early May in Miami. Counting those games, Stanton is 1-for-18 with a home run and 12 strikeouts.             OH MY GOD.

We have got to play more small ball. I was really hoping we would bunt and get Ichiro over in the 8th I believe it was. I hate to play the hindsight card, but we were playing for 1 run at that point. Get him over, get him in

I was thinking  Ichiro should have stole second , was like okay steal, this is the right man for the right moment. But of course we hit into a double play
