May 19, 201610 yr Stanton isn't going to suddenly become a better player because he signed a monster deal. He's the same player he was before. There will be slumps and he will K a lot. Deal with it. You cant go half the season slumping your whole baseball career and call yourself a good player, I dont care if you can hit em 700 feet or not. Stanton is trying to hard to impress and thats what gets people in trouble, applies to many things in life

This is exactly what I meant. The wording made it sound like he would change because of the contract.
May 19, 201610 yr Hope Donnie's angry would help to the upcoming homestand with the Nats, and I don't know how many "Stanton easy strike out" would coming in the future. Donnie doesn't get angry and it's the reason we've had a winning season thus far. He's even keeled to help the team manage both the highs and lows. Get used to it because so far it's what this team needs as opposed to the tumultuous panic attacks of past seasons.
May 19, 201610 yr At this stage I'd be happy to see Stanton take a few called third strikes looking rather than the pathetic swings. Show some restraint and make the pitcher pound the zone as it seems all to easy for them to throw low and outside and getting him to chase.
May 19, 201610 yr Stanton has had 136 officials at bats and struck out in 52 of them. Granted he is in one of those dark valleys but this team basically lives and dies off of him. Yelich and Ozuna, Prado were our best bats this whole series. We gave up a lot of outs. The issue isn't getting hits and getting on base, it's driving them in especially with 0 outs or 1 outs. Situations where the other team is conceding the run. Phillies literally turn on a switch that once they get a lead, even that 1 run lead they shut it down. Unbelievable that we had the chance to win every single game. The day off should help. But replacing guys like Prado with Johnson always sets this line up back. Give credit to where he had that rough inning aided by Bour's stupid error he came back and gave us a quality start and went 7 innings. Something very few of our starters have done. I think Donnie's quote spoke volumes of not getting hectic or loud but letting them know there is no reason to lose games like that. Even when we got runners on base yesterday we hit into multiple double plays. Complete rally killers. I would switch up the line up just a little. Switch Bour with Stanton, have him bat 6th and keep Ozuna in the 5 spot or you can put Ozuna in the 4th spot and put Bour and Stanton afterwards to break it up against LHP.
May 19, 201610 yr The offense doesn't live or die by stanton this season. Everyone is contributing. The proof is in the numbers. Stanton will be fine, and when he breaks out of this slump and is hitting a hr every 10 at bats the stanton monster dong worship all over my face thread will be going nuts. This is the player he is, and the marlins know/knew this. Mmmm monster dong on your face ...

Stanton will be fine, and when he breaks out of this slump and is hitting a hr every 10 at bats the stanton monster dong worship all over my face thread will be going nuts. This is the player he is, and the marlins know/knew this. There is no question he will break out. He went through a couple of these slumps back in 2014 where he was well on his way to winning that MVP award until he got injured. My phrasing was incorrect in saying that besides Stanton slumping there were other obvious chances to win the ball games. Bour striking out or popping up or Yelich hitting ground balls and not getting the runs in.
May 19, 201610 yr The Marlins have faced the Phillies six times now, including three games in early May in Miami. Counting those games, Stanton is 1-for-18 with a home run and 12 strikeouts. OH MY GOD. Part of this is the phillies scouting and executing upon that scouting. Their pitchers are pitching him exactly how the coaches want them to. Same goes for a lot of the other marlins hitters.
May 19, 201610 yr That one HR actually won the game first game we faced them. Velasquez challenged him with the fastballs and won and Hellickson threw some good change ups.

May 19, 201610 yr Wonder if there's any lingering aches and pains from his collision with Ozuna/the wall that have impacted on his swinging ability? I believe he was struggled before that collision.
May 19, 201610 yr Stanton was just not a "great" hitter like young Pujols,Harper and Anthony Rizzo,he's just got the amazing power and that's all,no high BA,no consistently drive runs in and most importantly at all,he almost has no any improvement in the SO rate through his many years of MLB career.
May 19, 201610 yr Stanton, at likely the tail end of a horrific slump, still has a .835 OPS. Stantons BABIP is lower than every other MLB year he's ever had. And it's not even close. Every year he has a slump and 75% of the fanbase is outraged about it. Then he goes on the inevitable home run dong barrage and all the haters shut up.

LD% is at a career low but a whole bunch (12%), GB% near career highs, FB% is just fine. He also has the highest soft contact % in his career right now (21%). He's also going oppo at a career worst this year. All that with the career high K% explain the career low babip really. He's going to be his usual awesome self again, but there are some worrisome little tidbits right now
May 19, 201610 yr and when he gets hot again we'll all be glued to the TV because everything he hits will be on the nose and have exit speeds of 115+ you won't find many in disagreement though that when he's cold it's one of the most painful things to watch as he literally swings at almost everything. When you start seeing him leaning for pitches he's generally slumping. When he stays taut and upright then he is seeing the ball well. I've never seen a player, that I can recall anyway, that looks so awful (seriously, looks like he belongs in A ball with the garbage he swings at) but then when hot looks like the best player in baseball by a Stanton mile - certainly the most exciting. As much as I love watching his giant HR's I can only imagine how good this offense would be if we had someone who is more consistent in that spot.

May 19, 201610 yr But he's not consistent nor has ever been. He's a streaky hitter. is there any baseball player who this isn't true for?

This is literally a comment I've had to make to people six hundred times on this board. He's streaky. When he's bad he just sucks, and when he's good he's best in baseball. He literally just came off a stretch where he hit a home run nearly every other game. If you can't take Stanton when he struggles, you don't deserve him when he's playing well.
