June 9, 201610 yr 88-92 MPH fastball. That's not good to hear. Other than that I know absolutely nothing about the kid, even if he seems to have a haphazard delivery from the short videos I'm seeing on MLB Network. For all I know he's the next great pitcher.
June 10, 201610 yr Top 3 player available and you don't grab him. Who knows Ozuna status, Kyle Lewis could've been his replacement. Jose Fernandez wasn't considered a top 20 prospect when we took him at 12. Kolek was the clear #2 or 3 in the draft we took him. The fact is absolutely no rankings matter and the MLB Draft is literally about waiting and seeing.

I dont really have a problem with that. Means he isnt overthrowing. With more muscle I assume he can pump it up to 92-94 consistently, which as a lefty would be fine.
June 10, 201610 yr You can only hope he fills out like they project and throws 94-95 like Conley can.
June 10, 201610 yr totally fine with this pick other than its the Marlins and Mike Hill fucks up the draft more than he does well, its fine. I still take Lewis over him, but whatever.
June 10, 201610 yr Considering that this guy pitched in Alabama with its notriously low density and high yearly rainfall it shouldn't come as a surprise that he's probably walked a bunch of people.

June 10, 201610 yr Kids 18 years old and some of you guys are complaining he's only throwing 92. Plus curveball and feel for the change up is much more important than throwing 97
June 10, 201610 yr it doesnt seem like a mike hill pick to me You can be sure Benedict was in on this pick

June 10, 201610 yr You can be sure Benedict was in on this pick i'd guarantee it. marlins have never drafted a SP like him 1st round
June 10, 201610 yr you're right..they really should have went lewis but they'd prob have to pay overslot for him i know, you would think they could go overslot for a player every now and then, i mean thats when that pick they sold would be useful i guess....
June 10, 201610 yr Considering that this guy pitched in Alabama with its notriously low density and high yearly rainfall it shouldn't come as a surprise that he's probably walked a bunch of people. 1 - WTF??? 2 - He didn't walk many hitters from what I've been hearing on TV
June 10, 201610 yr I dont really have a problem with that. Means he isnt overthrowing. With more muscle I assume he can pump it up to 92-94 consistently, which as a lefty would be fine. His mechanics seemed very fluid, so doesn't seem to be huge risk of injury which is always great. He's got a lot of strikeouts in high school, but I'm guessing because he's able to get away with his curveball having great dip but doesn't have overpowering stuff outside of that. He's basically the opposite of Kolek. While Kolek had a great fastball but no control and no good secondary pitches, Garrett has a plus off speed pitch and good control but a soft fastball. A guy like Garrett might not have the upside like Kolek had, but he's a lot more projectable and a lot less volatile. Pitchers like Garrett are more likely to find at least decent success due to being able to locate his pitches. Plus he's a lefty. Right now he seems like a solid pick. You can never have enough young lefty pitchers in the system. Literally the only other potential MLB starter we have in the system that isn't a college pitcher at low A is Austin Brice.
June 10, 201610 yr 1 - WTF??? 2 - He didn't walk many hitters from what I've been hearing on TV .....that's what they want you to think. high school stats are always embellished.
