Posted June 2, 20168 yr Admin y'all can move this wherever but I wanted to start a thread mainly about the Marlins draft. Anybody have an idea who we are looking at and if you think this is the year Money won't hold us back from drafting the best available?
June 2, 20168 yr Delvin Perez if he slides that far! Some were saying he would be first overall, but the Phils have JP Crawford, so unless they are stacking trade chips I don't see it happening.
June 2, 20168 yr I should be a moderator Too risky. If I ever do another mod dinner, I'd have to see you ordering milk with meat

June 2, 20168 yr I've seen the Marlins mentioned at various times with the following players, position and where they're from: Braxton Garrett LHP-High School (Alabama), Delvin Perez-SS High School (Puerto Rico), Riley Pint-RHP High School (Kansas), Blake Rutherford-OF High School (California) Jason Groome LHP High School (New Jersey), Corey Ray OF Louisville For the most part all of these are highly rated prospects, which means the Marlins probably won't draft ant of them!

June 8, 20168 yr Looks like Delvin Perez failed a drug test, latest mock draft has Marlins getting Braxton Garrett
June 8, 20168 yr Marlins draft strategy: Draft all the Joses. If there's a Jose in his name, first, middle, last, or anywhere, we want him
June 9, 20168 yr College player prefered Yeah I was talking to @Michael about this the other day, really hope we go with a collegiate player
June 9, 20168 yr Yeah I was talking to @Michael about this the other day, really hope we go with a collegiate player Yeah it's just too hard to predict how an 18 year old is going to develop. I'd only take a HS player this high if I was blown away by his potential and the college players around him were obviously a step below him.
June 9, 20168 yr @Admin should we move this to the main forum? Most people probably don't even know the draft is in half an hour.

June 9, 20168 yr This is the first year in a long time I haven't really followed anybody in the draft. I just want an impact guy for a change. Heaney was the last top 100 guy we drafted and that was three years ago.
June 9, 20168 yr Knowing how the team operates though, I'm gonna guess they take Forrest Whitley. The scouts for the Marlins LOVE Texas high school prospects at the top. That's who I'll guess right now.
June 9, 20168 yr The 3B/SS from Tennessee looks like he'd be a good pick and everyone is saying he could be up in the majors very soon.
June 9, 20168 yr AJ Puk available. Apparently other teams have the same concerns I had which included just ok performance in college, an injury history and a chance that he's just a bullpen arm down the line. I don't see the problem with high school guys. People who don't see the value in high school players are just impatient stupid fans.

Or maybe those fans realize that HS players pan out far less often.
June 9, 20168 yr There's plenty of potential and pure raw talent from HS, it's just the bad taste we got with Kolek over Rodon id say for a majority of us here. Obviously it seemed like money was the bigger issue though.
