July 20, 201610 yr You can't really forget about something like this. Going into the postseason I would be very wary of a manager who has pulled a boneheaded move like this. There's no way to say that the move "worked." It just didn't produce the disastrous consequences that it could have if the game went further into extras. Arguably though the game might not have even gone into extras if there weren't an idiot like Perez on the basepaths who ran the Marlins out of the inning. Last night's victory doesn't redeem a really dumb managerial decision. Ok, so you want to fire him then?
July 20, 201610 yr Aside from Maddon, I can't really name another manager i'd rather have who's clearly heads and tails better than Donnie. I'm not saying he's in the top 3 but the waters do get muddy after someone who sticks out like Maddon (who has his fair share of detractors too). There are however several managers I would NOT want. I think those of you who think he's just some awful manager need to realize that nobody will ever be perfect (the whole hindsight bit) and each of the moves he's made clearly have a logical reason behind them. Stanton was pulled to put the fastest guy on the field at first on the possibility that there would be an extra base hit that could give us the lead. Donnie rolled the dice there and had confidence in our team that we should be able to beat a crappy team like the Phils and upgraded his speed at first. His "burning" of pitchers does allow them to come in multiple days in a row simply because they don't have extended outings. Unfortunately, our awful rotation requires this particular tactic because we rarely have someone pitch past the 6th. Several of you just find these two tactics awful so I guess you'd be a better manager than Donnie as well as the the other half of us who find him to be the best we've had in a long time.
