July 19, 201610 yr Mattingly has been a great "clubhouse manager" but when it comes down to game decisions (including lineup construction), he's absolutely terrible.
July 19, 201610 yr I wanna know his reason why. Considering Stanton being at first in that situation didn't matter unless they tie the game anyway. Stanton isn't blazing fast but he isn't slow either. Slightly above average speed when needed. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
July 19, 201610 yr I like the guy. Our season has been great so far and he is not the least of the reasons why.
July 19, 201610 yr He's done some nice things, but between the Yefri thing tonight and the Don Kelly experiment, he needs to chill with the stupidity.
July 19, 201610 yr He's an amazing manager all around... the things he does right are big things... but that's exactly why his bonehead decisions stand out even more when they do happen. It's a bit of a phenomenon really.
July 19, 201610 yr Author Mattingly has been a great "clubhouse manager" but when it comes down to game decisions (including lineup construction), he's absolutely terrible. Exactly
July 19, 201610 yr Also... Even with these stupid moves, I wouldn't trade him for any other manager right now.
July 19, 201610 yr Author I feel like if the Marlins lost this game this thread would have a very different texture.
July 19, 201610 yr Don Martingly needs his head examined by a physician put got us playoff race and got wining more game we done past few year dont complain we were 20 game under 500 you can
July 19, 201610 yr Maybe he was over managing some. Perhaps he was thinking that if the ball was in play the only play would be at first. It backfired though. Speed kills.
July 19, 201610 yr Also... Even with these stupid moves, I wouldn't trade him for any other manager right now. I wouldn't go that far.
July 19, 201610 yr He's an amazing manager all around... the things he does right are big things... but that's exactly why his bonehead decisions stand out even more when they do happen. It's a bit of a phenomenon really. Personally I think he is doing a better job then the so called managers we have had lately. One good reason is he has at least played in the majors.
July 19, 201610 yr Also... Even with these stupid moves, I wouldn't trade him for any other manager right now. I would. I get shivers thinking about him removing Stanton in the late innings during a playoff game. When October rolls around you want a manager who doesn't make stupid moves in tight situations. I have little confidence in him.
July 19, 201610 yr i have nothing but praise for the job he's done this year. how many of you that think mattingly is a bad manager also were whining about the Rodney trade?
July 19, 201610 yr When you need a single to tie and a double to win with two outs in the last frame it's not a horrible call to go with the speedster. Look at Billy Hamilton and the runs he creates. Let's say the throw to third was rushed and he made the winning run. It's worth the risk in that situation.
July 19, 201610 yr Not a great move by Mattingly (and a terrible base running mistake to boot) but hard to argue with the job he's done this year. I'm a fan.. I really enjoy the entire staff.
July 19, 201610 yr Author Joe Maddon doesn't pull Stanton out of the game under the sand circumstances. Stanton is not Logan Morrison.
July 19, 201610 yr Author Again, if the Marlins lose that game, 80% of the board is calling for Mattingly's head.
July 19, 201610 yr Don is a top10 manager. Don't get the Stanton move but he deserves a ton of praise.
July 19, 201610 yr I feel like if the Marlins lost this game this thread would have a very different texture. Well they didn't
July 19, 201610 yr Don is a top10 manager. Don't get the Stanton move but he deserves a ton of praise. He needs to trim those sideburns
