Because there haven't been that many good ones. Most of the big names are higher risk. Chapman being one of the biggest.

 

 

I don't care about the first rounder because what's one prospect gonna do for us and that's if he's not a bust. I have doubts about going after Jansen yes but count me more towards wanting him because we're not rebuilding so if we're going in then go all in. It'll make a more interesting season at least. Can't always take this stuff too seriously either so just do it and let's see what happens. I still think about Jose and sometimes it just reminds me to say fuck it and do things and what the hell if Jansen signs let's just watch and hope it works.

The core as it sits without Jose isn't that good. The Marlins don't have minor league players to trade away to bolster the roster. The free agent offerings this year are pretty lousy, so there aren't many options available to make that happen either.

 

The Marlins can spend a lot of money on Jansen this offseason and it might seem like going "all in" but they will still be a mediocre team in 2017.

 

Koji and Encarnacion would have been better targets.

Maybe not terrible, but I think they would be a fringe contender at best.

 

I'm actually kind of optimistic that Chen improves this season for the record.

 

 

Also, for what it's worth, I think that Mattingly is kind of a shitty bullpen manager. I don't think he could properly use an Andrew Miller type like a Tito Francona could.

All I know is that Stanton needs a 2014 type season for us to have any shot at competing. Can't have injuries and has to shorten his slumps.
