When he is a miser he does it stupidly cause the market is robust with what they need. Like last winter, when they needed starting pitching. They got Chen. Then they closed up shop. I would think that if Mark Trumbo finds his way onto the team it would be to play LF with it understood that Ozuna is on his way out. Edit: I guess he would be a good 1B, he only has 22 errors in 3000 innings at 1B

December 6, 20169 yr Thing is raising the payroll doesn't necessarily ONLY have to be for FA. Technically it would allow us to pull a 2012 dodgers and take on some big contracts for some smaller time pieces. For example, picking up contracts like cargo, greinke, etc. That are larger contracts on teams that are either underperforming or can't afford them for some reason. Btw, not implying we have what it takes to get either or that we even should, just saying we could start doing a reverse Marlins and start bailing other teams out lol
December 6, 20169 yr there is literally nothing out there in the FA market or even a combo of players available that will turn this team into even a WC team this coming season. The year Loria supposedly claims he's willing to spend is one of the absolute worst FA classes I can remember. I'd rather him actually spend in a year where there are some true impact players on the market (i.e. everyday position players and frontline starting pitching). I'd actually rather the team wait and slog through next season and jettison some more junk off - it's not like the team had great attendance last year and they likely won't again this year so why not do a mini rebuild for a season and put a few more prospects in the minors and hit the ground running again next year? There is nothing to be had out there right now...Maybe with the ChiSox doing a Market Correction we could try to get a Jose Quintana...I have no idea if a package like Jarlin Garcia and Tomas Tellis and another pitcher like Lazo would be enticing enough In regards to the FA market I know what Mike Hill must be thinking that if he gets 3 closer caliber pitchers he just needs starters who can give him 5 good innings therefore getting both Jensen and Chapman would translate into a pennant contending team. Problem with that is that Closers are ego centric and in this case too many cooks spoil the broth There is such a thing as jealousy for BP roles, a hold as not quite as good as a save when it comes to Hall Of Fame Voting, All Star Games or endorsements. That creates chemistry problems for sure The Marlins problem is starting pitching...We have nothing close to an Ace right now, and no way of getting an ace without gutting the Team. Mike Hill is unable to come up with a real solution of any kind so we hear these stories of increasing the payroll...Blow it out of your rear! It would be just a rental for another Market correction , unless he thinks it can give him bargaining chips for future trade options. However he would find himself dealing from a position of weakness instead of strength. I believe that if the Marlins increase their payroll now they are trying to force something to happen and it will just blow up in their faces . Patience is such a wise virtue!
