They drafted college seniors and juniors who aren't gonna demand more money and so they sign those guys below value and that allows them to allocate the saved money to sign the first rounders to higher bonuses to ensure they sign. It's either smart use of the money or it's just #CheapJeter... you decide which you want it to be. It's awesome if they're able to sign these guys so under slot. I'm just surprised at how large of a difference there is between the slot and some of these numbers. As you said, it just gives them more they can offer to the higher guys.

You draft college seniors that basically have zero leverage late in the first 10 rounds, so you can use some of that money for other players to go over slot on.

And even then the lower amount is a huge improvement of what they were getting before so they take it. Yes there's a huge gap between 100,000 and 300,000 but if you weren't making much before then even the 100,000 is an excellent amount at this point so they take it.
