I'd sit with you and watch the inning breaks in silence but baseball is still a business and no team (especially this team) can afford to not care about the casual fans though so get used to between inning entertainment and popular music (Latin or not).

Hey I appreciate all the responses. I see that a lot of you have had similar experiences as the ballpark. I'm just as tired of the attendance narrative that infects everything Marlins. This was never meant to come as another complaint in a long line of them. I was genuinely dejected leaving the stadium. I agree with all the factors (Monday game vs cardinals with no runs), but the place was LIFELESS.

Well that is encouraging to know that at least SOME of the games this year have a had a good or great atmosphere. I'm sure a winning team that is offensively competent will change things around, but how many years off are we from that being the case? How much longer can this status quo for Marlins last before relocation becomes a real possibility?

Relocation isn't a possibility because of the ballpark agreement. Also, MLB likes having a team here. Miami is a huge city. Don't listen to relocation talk, it's all BS. If the team hasn't left by now they won't leave anytime in our lifetimes. A "few more" bad seasons of lame teams and poor attendance is nothing compared to how may seasons that that has already been the norm here.

 

How many years are we from a consistently winning team? That's basically the one question we all (except Das Texan) are here to find out the answer to. Time will tell. That's our Endgame.

National Anthem, 7th Inning Stretch, Sweet Caroline in Boston, and the occasional organ tune. I was pleasantly shocked by how little stadium noise there was outside of the natural sounds.

 

 

I will say that the experience is much better when the roof is open. And the renovations have helped a lot.

With that said... that's the Cubs and Red Sox... do you actually think the Marlins, in this city, can actually get away with that? Just doesn't feel like something that would work in every city or for every team.

 

 

Winning is what brings people to the stadium and not a 7 game win streak in the middle of a 100 loss season. We saw this in 2003, 2004, 2005 where attendance was steadily increasing year to year. They still ranked near the bottom of the league but each year saw steady increases. The fans were coming back and would have continued to do so if they hadn't blown it up in 2006. 

 

The year of stanton's homer chase, the crowds were electric. Every time stanton came up to bat everyone was going nuts. It didn't increase attendance by much (although still more than this year) since the team wasn't a winner, but the game to game crowds were a lot of fun. 

 

As for the roof. Atmosphere is better with the roof closed. Its hot humid and unbearable even at the night with the roof open. I avoid those games whenever it's announced. Much more pleasant and a better experience when its closed and the AC is nice and comfy.

Something Marlins Park suffers a great deal from.  And I’m not talking good noise (home fans cheering).  I’m talking incessant noise created by a DJ (a fucking DJ at a ballpark?!?!?!?!) and noises created by a production team.

Went last night, boy, no matter what I did at the game, the experience was terrible.  Could not see much out of the back windows, the latin band in the outfield stands banging on the drums gave me a headache and it did not feel like the international world cup no matter how loud they played and the team got shut out again and gave up 11 runs to a team that was coming in with a 7 game losing streak.  I don't know why they did not open the roof to improve the experience-at least the game could have been rained out.

 

 

It’s very simple.  Every great crowd in sports has a hearty bandwagon.  You’re not going to find 40,000 fans that will live and die with a team under every circumstance.  We don’t have a bandwagon.  To get one we must be good for a prolonged period of time.  We’ve never done that.  Once that happens then maybe our bandwagon will assemble and create the much needed atmosphere.  But until then no amount of parties en el parque or uniform changes or instruments or whatever else marketing come up with is going to create an atmosphere. People do.  We need a bandwagon.  Every great crowd has a significant bandwagon.  

 

 

Gotta end the (what feels like) 30 year playoff drought.

This is where I think Jeter and company is failing big time. They are giving people more reasons to not come or come back. I understand those prices are pretty normal in MLB these days, but the Marlins should not be charging normal prices. He needs to make concessions and parking cheap. People may be more inclined to buy a ticket if they know they won't need to take out a mortgage for the add-ons.

I’ve noticed a change in the ticket prices in the online secondary market this year.  In the past it was very easy to get big discounts on tickets through seat Greek and stub hub the week before a game.  this year it is very different. Inventory is very low on those online markets and whatever tickets are there really aren’t discounted much at all.  

 

Anyone have any theories as to why that would be?  I was thinking perhaps older sponsorship deals from the Loris/Samson era included big ticket packages for those sponsors which were then handed out to employees or clients by that sponsor.  This in turn gives people a free ticket to sling online thus saturating the market further.  Of course these tickets were all included in the attendance count using the old method.  Perhaps these deals expired and the new corporate sponsorship deals negotiated by chip bowers and Jeter did not include ticket packages that were as generous 

 

 if you want to be super conspiracy about it, the marlins buy up all discounted tickets to force people into buying direct from the team.  But I don’t believe that to be so. 

 

I went to some games on st Pete in the past and the rays online secondary ticket market wasn’t very fruitful.  So I’m thinking they didn’t saturate the market with ticket giveaways either.  Makes me think my theoRy has somethjng to it. 

 

 

Went last night. The ac was set low again.  Uncomfortable. Also, sat in the first row in my section with a bunch of empty seats next to me. In the third inning two families came down and took the seats (no, they did not have those seats). Why did I pay extra? On the positive side, the game was good. The stadium is well kept. The fireworks were phenomenal. Much better than I expected. All in all, a good time but they should monitor seating, also its expensive , beer $14, parking $25.

 

They do have the "ophie" (I think) concession where you get the $5 rolling rock draft and $3 hot dog and the $5 pork tacos..  Beer is a good deal for me, I never want 16 oz of beer.  Funny about the AC.  Our seats for the past few years were in Sec 11 but towards the low number seats.  The A/c was blowing so hard, your hair would be flying and it was freezing.  I don't think they fixed it yet but we did have our seats moved all the way to the left and it is perfect, or much better.  My wife and daughter were cold in July in Dolphin stadium, so they don't count.
