It was "Good job but you're not there yet" and I think Sherman thought more people would buy in to joining them on the rise up.

It's because we got hot garbage back for a guy that was signed for this coming season - aka no need to trade him unless you got a decent return.

He opted out in Atlanta, he was absolutely opting out here so I wouldn’t really group him in with those that have an additional year of control. And it’s not a hindsight thing, everyone here knew it and I guarantee you that the front office knew it and had spoken to Adam and or his agent. I agree, the return was absolutely pointless and shortsighted since (I’m hoping) at the time they knew they were going to be upgrading at catcher in the postseason. But even if all they did was save $750k-$1M by trading him then I understand it from a business perspective.

That's not entirely accurate....he could turn down the option for a buyout, but he was still controlled via arbitration, so he wasn't becoming a FA if/when he opted out - we would've still controlled the rights to him unless we declined to tender him.
