Am I wrong to think you set something right off the bat and try and go from there? I know things can change as the weeks go on but to start day one and be like "yeah I'm not sure yet" seems so stupid to me. They should already know who profiles where and at least have a basic plan to begin with. Donnie makes it sound like they'll pull names out of a hat to start the season. Maybe Donnie is the worst player in this team, why this team like him so much ? weakest area of this team ? didn't he's a lame duck manager with 2022 his last season with this team without contract extension ? A league of their own 3. Angels in the outfield 4. Major League 5. 42 I recently realized my least favorite by far is Field of dreams. It survived off nostalgia and that intangible beauty that baseball has but it is literally one of the worst stories ever told. And not even by baseball standards, I mean movie standards in general lol. Just completely unbelievable past the point of being able to suspend the disbelief, and just utterly pointless.

I liked your post but I love Field of Dreams so I can't agree with the last part. Yes it's got it's hokiness but the story is beautiful. I'd imagine it gets worse with each viewing though as you notice more than just the heartwarming story. I don't think I've ever put my top 5 baseball movies in order but I'd say something like Field of Dreams, Sandlot, 42, Moneyball, and I guess just barely Angels in the Outfield for nostalgia but there might be a better one that I'm forgetting that would bump that one out of my top 5. But my top 4 is pretty locked in, ironically after I just gave you grief for just having a top 4. Maybe top 5 baseball movies is a thread we should be making next.
April 12, 20224 yr I enjoyed the movie of Moneyball. I eventually got around to the book last year and enjoyed that much more. The trade deadline chapter was amazing. 42 is great. Little Big League is probably my favorite for a mix of being silly enough and yet still true to the game for the most part. Movie is quite underrated. On the flip side of that, I've come to appreciate Rookie of the Year more for the fact that it is completely whimsical. The Natural is kind of overrated. I'll agree on the Field of Dreams takes on both sides above cause I've been on both sides of the fence. Lol Bull Durham is alright, decent. Maybe the Marlins players need to sleep with Susan Sarandon, might turn things around. 61* was good. The Rookie was a fun story. Never really watched Angels in the Outfield, admittedly. At least not to a point I can remember much of it.

Chadwick did no wrong with his acting and the story itself is a great one that you probably couldn’t mess up if you tried. But apparently I have a preference for the more lighthearted movies I grew up with so my list is more of a “which can I watch 100 times and not get bored of” not necessarily which is the best piece of theatre if that makes sense. So @Michael might watch Angels in the Outfield and think it’s dumb Lol (though I doubt it, you got Tony Danza, Danny Glover, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and Christopher lloyd) As for Field of Dreams, My opinion stands 😂 Edited April 12, 20224 yr by marlinsmaniac

I can’t stand for the love of the game strictly for how stupid John C. Reilly looks in a uniform and it was basically a chick flick with an old guy throwing baseballs. Dont care for The Rookie, The Natural or Bull Durham but they don’t bother me either so they’re just “alright” in my book. But definitely give Ángels in the outfield a Try (the 90’s one not the black and white one) it’s light hearted and fun but has enough baseball in it to scratch that particular itch lol
April 12, 20224 yr Field of Dreams is pure perfection. That movie brings on the waterworks every time at the end - especially if you had a somewhat strained relationship with your dad growing up. The Sandlot is a classic movie and has held up pretty well over time. People still use quotes from that movie. Major League is still fantastic (I will ignore that they made sequels to that movie). I used to like Angels in the Outfield a lot when i was a kid but when i watched it much later on in adulthood I didn't care for it anymore. It lost the "magic" it held for me as a kid. Same with "Rookie of the Year". They just aren't watchable for me any longer even though I loved them when I was much younger. Some movies just don't have the longevity of a 'Sandlot' or even 'The Mighty Ducks' (to switch to a different sport themed childhood movie). My wife absolutely loves another Costner baseball movie, For the Love of the Game. It's not half bad, it's grown on me over the years. Same as her other baseball movie - Fever Pitch (lighthearted but encapsulates what being a real fan is like when your partner just isn't pretty well). Bull Durham has to be one of the most overrated movies ever. I've seen it a handful of times now over my lifetime and I just find it stupid and boring.

The Mighty Ducks was so great when I was a kid, my goodness. Sandlot is legendary. I love Rookie of the Year, Brinkmann is such a moron, and my mom always quotes the "It was you?!" "It was me." from the end of it. Also, that mean guy on the Mets looks so much like John Kruk. I don't know if that was intentional, but it's amazing nonetheless.
