Reynolds just got an extension. There goes that pipe dream, thanks a lot Kim!

I would have gotten an extension if we'd traded for him

It's ... a two year deal.

It's avoiding arbitration. That's it.

If anything, the Pirates just increased his value slightly cause both years are cheap.

And his value was already too high for Kim so yeah, there goes that.

On the contrary.

Now Bruce knows his next two seasons are cheap. He'll sign off on it now!

Sadly no 😞

Really wish we could see the counter offers from pirates. If any of them included requests for prospects that didn't include Eury and Watson then they are idiots for not signing off on that. I'm assuming pirates are rightfully asking for at least one of them to be included.

I was gonna say that I can understand them wanting to avoid trading Eury or Watson but both guys are not even 19 years old yet. The potential is high but they can implode at any point. I'd trade either for the more sure bet of Reynolds.

We have a CF.  He was heavenly sent.  His name is JESUS!!!

Seriously, they aren't trading for Reynolds. They would have already done so if they were going to pull the trigger.  Plus, Sanchez has looked good out there so far.  Let's see what he can do before we try to trade the farm away.

The main problem right now has been that our RF/LF/1B/DH/3B haven't hit dick!  Ironically,  with the way Jesus Sanchez has started, CF is not the problem.

I just realized my wife could play for the Marlins and fit right in.

LMAO

Dude, just get a side chick.  That will solve your blue balls issue.

Oh, I definitely think they missed an opportunity to excite the fan base AND improve the on-field product at the same time. And given the desirability of owning a team, I’d hope MLB picks owners who are willing and able to invest significant money to try and get a return rather than relying on what in this case amounts to corporate welfare (ie the guaranteed payments).

And I for sure agree that not all 30 teams will be in, but I do suspect the number is much higher than 3 for players like Correa or even nice bullpen arms, as most teams would benefit from those guys, even though some of those teams may not be willing or able to offer a “competitive” salary amount.

For what he wound up getting, it seems like his market wasn't actually that robust.

Regarding the first paragraph - remember that the owners vote on who gets to be in their club. We can complain that Jorge Mas or Steve Cohen or Mark Cuban didn't buy the team or didn't get offered the team from Loria, but it's also possible (definitely the case on Cuban) that the owners were rejecting them. Obviously Cohen got in with the Mets so good shot he wasn't trying to buy our team lol. Still. Owners vote, and we know how they are ...

Regarding the second paragraph - collusion, bay-beeee! Lol.

But they wouldn't go to owner approval at all if the existing owner didn't agree to sell to them.  i.e. Loria didn't agree to Mas, so he never got to the point of getting the other owners' approval, no?

Man, it's not easy.

I have a good looking neighbor who I talk to and one day she told me to come over because there was nobody home.

I hesitated and was so nervous but eventually I took the chance and went over, turns out she was telling me the truth... there was nobody home.

But your next line was that the owners were rejecting them.

I agree I was just saying that if the pirates had asked for a combo of any other players and Ng still didnt agree then that should have been a fireable offense. Again, I'd just love to have seen some of the requests that we didn't agree to.

Yea I knew what you meant, your post just reminded me of that point about Eury and Watson.

Another thought, remember when the Marlins traded high on Zac Gallen and got Jazz? I think we need more trades like that to get us over the hump. Not specifically saying a starter for a prospect but giving up quality to get quality. Not every trade is gonna be a steal like when we got Wendle, Stallings, Marte, and others for "not much", eventually you gotta give to get,

Are y’all going to give Kim credit if Luzardo busts out as fangraphs highlighted and his first game was in line with?

I give her credit for that already. She hasn't done everything wrong, but she sure as hell has done some things wrong.

yeah I think some people are taking it like we're saying everything she's done has been awful but I don't believe any of us have ever said that at any point.  Personally, i think she's made more bad moves (whether it's with a signing or lack of a signing/trade etc) than good moves which is why I give her the grade I do - but i agree some trades have been good.  Other people also seem to want to believe that in order to trade you have to absolutely fleece the other team which is also not true.  Most trades are born out of each team trading from a position of strength to a position of need - See the Gallen/Jazz trade.

It just seems like she has an incredibly challenging time working on more than one thing at a time which, as a GM, kinda sucks.  It's like she won't make a trade unless it looks fairly lopsided.  I dunno. I bought into the hype when she came on board but I've been really underwhelmed overall by what she's done, in particular after watching the team for a full season where needs should have been identified and addressed.
