Been thinking about this a lot lately. The pitchforks are warranted but they're imaginary. We can be upset but can't do really much other than complain on here. Watching less games and not buying tickets is definitely something but we're not putting a dent in their profits, I guess "best" case scenario is stop watching and wait until they're actually winning to come back? Well that sure as hell sounds like a bandwagon fan to me. So I dunno what people expect. 

I feel like when you're a diehard fan it's more like a parent being upset at your kids for something. You can be upset but you're still there for them, you don't just bail on them.

You're right - I know I made that post/letter in the offseason, and there was some criticism about it not being "sharp" enough in that I'd still be around, but you're hitting the nail on the head with the bandwagon counter argument.

I was thinking about it a bit last night, and Cubs fans went through 100 years of no postseason success before winning again, and they've had consistent fans.  Now the Marlins obviously aren't the Cubs, but it's the same thing where you wind up being loyal even if it's painful doing so - your parent analogy is a good one.

On a purely logical level, I'd love to swap over and become a Rays fan/fan of a successful organization, but I just can't do it.  The Marlins are my team, for better or worse.

As you said, this whole board could shut down and they'd lose what?   100 people at most (I can't find a full tally of membership, and I don't mean that number as a criticism) - they're not missing much in the grand scheme of things.  Sure there's the whole "100 here, 100 there, adds up to a lot" argument, but I think we're already at the bare bones of a base line casual fan/something to do level of attendance and support (i.e., they could do nothing and their attendance will be around what it's been).

Another option would be to denounce the Marlins, pick a new favorite team and call them "yours," while complaining about the Marlins day and night and rooting for them to fail, all while still keeping a close eye on them just with an air of pessimism while reminding everyone that you no longer root for them.

to be fair, I dont really root against the Marlins except when they play the Cardinals, 

 

I hate the ownership group because they are just cheap fucks and are bad for baseball.  I like Kim Ng.  I was on her bandwagon from the start.  I think she has made some questionable decisions the last 6 months, but I think some of it is possibly due to her hands being tied between a. ownership and b. Jeter/Denbo (Denbo I think is fucking awful and fucking stubborn on top of it).

Aside from that I'd like to see them win.  They have some real nice starting pitching.  

They just have a lot of terribly put together pieces that make little to no sense all being mixed together honestly.

I rail on them especially lately because ownership claims to be serious about winning but everything they are doing is often in direct contradiction to wanting to win.

Five years ago we got rid of last bad regime and think we would know the new regime is good or bad five years later, now five years have passed and we know it's just another BAD regime.

Until one day I wake up and decided to become the fan of one of the other 29 teams, what I can do now is keep watching Marlins games and keep bitching on them.
