Jazz is great at hitting against velo so I fully expect him to hit 9th or benched against hicks who throws 100

I don't think Hicks will be throwing 100+ if he's trying to get stretched out for 6+ innings.

I could be wrong. Probably will be. That's fine, it's fine.

Jordan has dialed back his velocity a hair, but its still going to be upper 90s most likely.

First career start so who knows what will happen tbh.

it's still a bad lineup, but it's definitely better than anything we've seen this season. Those are the depths Mattingly has fallen to: "this is bad, but not as bad as I expected, so that makes it good"

I wouldn’t call it bad based on what we have available. You could argue Wendle should be a spot higher or DLC over Garcia, but I wouldn’t say it’s bad

Donald's insistence on splitting every lefty batter with two righties is asinine (LRRLRRLRR). Wendle and BA are both hitting well and should be higher in the order. Soler, Thicc Jesus, and Avislow are all struggling and shouldn't be in key lineup positions. Also, this is essentially a bullpen game for the Cardinals as I doubt Hicks throws more than 50-60 pitches, so setting the lineup based on handedness is, as are most of Mattingly's decisions, extremely shortsighted and often plain wrong.

He’s only got 2 pitches, while excellent, not sure why cards making him a starter!

He has more than 2 pitches. (sinker, slider, cutter)   He is basically a 3 pitch guy that has been working on a forth (change up), though I wish he'd mix in a traditional 4 seamer more often.

They are making him a starter in an effort to manage his load more, whether or not this will be successful is who knows.  Flaherty comes back at some point I assume to make this all moot most likely anyway.

I think this is the best lineup he's put out so far.

Mattingly gets a B+ for this lineup.   Graded on a curve obviously and taking into consideration the lineups that should have been aborted before being delivered to the umpires, so this is a rather decent lineup from him!
