Still trying to figure out why Avi Garcia was batting cleanup.  At least he got an RBI I guess.

I wonder if Skip is putting him in a key spot in an effort to try and inspire him and show Avi that he believes Avi can be that guy.

It's not working.

I don't think it's Skip's decision at this point.

Keeping Gurriel on the bench most nights to continue trotting out Garcia in the 4th or 5th spot of the lineup is a tragedy.

Keeping Burdick in AAA while he is absolutely raking to keep Garcia in the starting lineup is  a tragedy.

They've already lost the money!  I understand you don't cut him right now but for God's sake, keep him on the bench.

Winning should be the most important thing now.  If it's not, sell the fucking team.

Probably need him for at least one more start I think.

The Braves have a tough lineup.  It was a difficult ask for him to come out against the Braves in his first MLB of the season. Hoeing might be a serviceable swing man between ML roster and AAA.

While I think they should cut bait with Avi NOW. I do think he'll get another month before it would even be considered. I still think it won't happen at all because Bruce ain't gonna wanna pay him another 45mil (this year and the remaining two) for nothing (even though that's what he's getting anyway).

Wtf did Jeter want Avi over Marte anyway???! I will NEVER understand that.

He did not. He wanted them both.

I'd rather have an injured Marte than a healthy Avi.

But why go and do this whole courting of Avi first? I mean he went all out for this dude while just being meh towards the guy who actually proved he could HIT in Miami and avoid the curse we seem to have on FAs we sign.

Never made any sense. Also...Marte has always been more consistent and thus better than Avi so it really made zero fucking sense why Jeter had such a boner for this dude.

Cause Jeter was an incompetent front office exec

The answer is always in the $.

He was almost half the price of Marte

Maybe he went to the Kim school of counting - 30 homer a year Avi

Marte was literally seeking 15mil per year from the Marlins at the time and the Mets just came in and were like ehhh we'll give you so much more to come here. He was literally asking for Avi's contact before Jeter and Kim sat on their hands and ignored him.

this is so insane because he has never hit 30 homers in a season and has 137 home runs in 1068 games played, for a season average of 21. Where did Kim get 30 from??

The problem with that argument is, had we just offered Avi’s deal to Marte either when trying to extend him, or early in the offseason, he would’ve signed in the former case, and may have in the latter.

instead, per reports, Kim way lowballed at 2/3 of even Avi’s contract with a year less, which likely insulted him from the get-go.

he liked it here and wanted to resign, so I think if we came in with a realistic offer to begin with, we had a good chance of getting him to come back.
