Just don't trade him, maybe he's not as famous as Sandy, Luzardo, Cabrera and Eury but he's the most reliable one in the rotation besides Eury, this team wins almost all of his starts and with the innings limit for Eury and the inconsistent of Sandy, Luzardo and Cabrera, you just need to start Braxton as many games as possible.

Sandy, Luzardo & Cabrera’s inconsistency makes it look like Garrett is an ACE right now.  Garrett has pitched well but he’s one bad gm away from what is true ERA should look like based on his ERA in the minors.  He only has a 3-2 W/L record with how well he’s pitched .  You don’t think adding a proven bat would result in more wins over a 5th rotational arm? 

Right now we are winning gms because the bats woke up after Jazz & Avi’s injuries.  The SO & BB rates have greatly improved while inserting a true leadoff hitter that actually makes contact.  There isn’t any easy outs of late & I can’t remember when we lost due to an error in the field.  

I just don’t see how they can sustain the pace they’re on with the current lineup.  When Jazz returns that will help but it’s not enough.   Garrett was just an example for multiple reasons in another thread. I highly doubt he’ll be traded so don’t let it worry you.

W/L record is a team stat and tells very little about the pitcher themselves.

It's 2023 and we are still using W/L to evaluate pitchers?

He has a 3.88 ERA, 3.42 FIP and has a fantastic 5.50 K/BB ratio. Not only that, but his BABIP is .330 which indicates he has actually been a bit unlucky. His numbers were also solid in 14 starts in 2022, so I'm not sure why we are even citing his minor-league numbers at this point (and they weren't even that bad). Sometimes, things just click for guys once they hit the majors.

yeah i'm NOT in favor of moving him at all unless it's for some utterly ridiculous return that no GM would make anyway.  If the Marlins fall off and start losing when they hit their upcoming tough stretch and are pretty much out of it again a month or so from now around the deadline then maybe revisit this....BUT for now? nope.  too vital of a cog for this team.  maybe he'll regress and we'll all be sad we didn't try to move him but he's doing very well right now and gives us a good start every 5 days.

Agreed!  Plus, he's been even better since he started throwing a cutter earlier this year.

I'm also pretty sure that he tweaked his slider in the majors last year which has been a plus pitch for him, especially against right handed hitters. He's a much different pitcher than he was in the minors.

I was using his W/L record as an example based on our BATS., that a 5th rotational arm doesn’t have more value than a proven everyday bat.

Why am I citing Garrett’s minor league stats at this point?   For one, 39 career starts isn’t enough substance for sound proof when his career ERA of 4.02 resembles his minor league numbers.  Yeah, sometimes players can figure out & everything clicks & that some players can just turn into a bust but you can’t say for sure if that’s the case for Garrett just yet, nobody can .   Garrett’s SO/BB is nice & means a lot but it’s not sustainable IMO.  Rogers had those same kind of numbers his rookie year so there’s that .  Luzardo has a high SO over BB but he’s struggling a little bit.    I could be wrong but I think you mentioned Cabreras minor league stats to justify a point in another thread which is odd for a couple reasons.

Garrett also had one horrendous start from hell that has still greatly skewed his overall stats this year.  He's been pitching like an ace outside of that one crap start against Atlanta.

Yeah Atlanta gets special treatment all the time.  Anyway, If you guys would understand what I’m saying, that I’m giving Garrett his credit, that’s why I see him as a possible trade chip. I I still haven’t read a response that his value is better or worse than a dependable bat, that’s the main point boyz.

Probably better but with underperformance and injuries right now, I'd rather not trade him juuust yet.

Eh, I’m not there yet on that.  Don should have been fired before the 22 season, Meyer was nearly traded for Marsh, Stallings is garbage & her reaction time on sending players up or down is a bit slow. Maybe some of these moves or lack thereof isn’t all on Ng so we’ll see I guess.

That’s a good question. The talk currently is mainly focused on pitchers like Aroldis Chapman and Jack Flaherty.

 

And as far as the bats go, just some talk for a few different players. But then the biggest question is would they even fit in/be any better?

Guys like Tim Anderson from the White Sox, sure would be great to have a player like that, but then still with the team having Segura at 3B, does it really solve a problem. Of course he’s better than Wendle but would it be worth it to give up the players for him?

Same with a guy like Joc Pederson. While he’s a really good player, do the Marlins even need someone like that, with the current roster of outfielders ?

 

 

Yasmani Grandal is in the final year of his contract, so it probably would just be a pickup for the rest of the season. But I’ve seen that he might be a possible trade candidate. That would definitely upgrade the catcher position, even though Fortes has been playing much better lately with more playing time. Someone like Grandal could some for a couple of months.

I would take Bellinger if he can play CF, and then move Jazz back to SS. 😂

Braxton is reliable and has been a saving grace for this team, but every player has a price. I still maintain that finding a true middle of the order bat should be the #1 priority for this team. And if they identify a potential target and Braxton is the ask, I’m sending him away and gambling that we hit on a bat

Who cares what she 'ALMOST' did.  Thats a horseshit reason to give someone a negative on.  If every General Manager was judged on moves they DIDNT make, then we have some really silly standards.

 

This team is in the wild card hunt this year.  Thats largely on Kim Ng and the moves she HAS made.  

She had a fucking HOME RUN hire as manager, Mattingly is AT LEAST 10 games worse right now.

 

The Segura move has been a disaster, but she also had no real money to sign someone with.  If ownership would stop being so fucking cheap she might be able to compete with higher quality free agents.  But it is what it is.

Has she been perfect? no.

Is this team where it is without her?  absolutely not.
