Not a tear, so not a guaranteed TJ surgery, but certainly a possibility.

Masahiro Tanaka pitched with a partially torn UCL for years and never got TJ. Pitched fairly well, too!

Not saying it's a good idea but it is possible.

My guess is that he has had it basically all year or he had a separate issue and started compensating which ultimately caused the sprain.

It was blatantly obvious that something wasn't right with him right from the start of the season.

That's a big assumption and really not fair in my opinion.  We really don't know what they knew.  I find hard to believe that Sandy, his agent, and the front office all decided to risk his future like that. Especially considering his extension.

He also mixed in some great starts in there. Hard to imagine he did that while injured.

He's a professional athlete. These guys are abnormally competitive to the point that they play hurt all the time and don't say anything. Entirely possible he was hurt and kept insisting he was fine. Aaron Judge played through a collapsed lung a few years ago. These guys aren't normal.

He's also really freaking good and Sandy at 60-70 percent is better than probably half the pitchers in this league. I absolutely believe he was hurt or at least compromised. Not assigning blame to anyone, but I don't believe this UCL thing just came out of nowhere.
