They're not expensive. The only salary that needs to be dumped is Garcia, and that likely won't be doable unless attached with a prospect. It's not going to be a full rebuild like before. Nor does it have to be. You can't even compare it to Jeter coming in because he had to shed a $300M contract. Probably could have built around the rest of em [Ozuna, Yelich, Realmuto] but decided to try and re-stock that way, but even still, the situations are not comparable. We ALREADY have a low payroll compared to MLB teams, we don't need to slash it much. Just like Giancarlos contract tho Sandys is backloaded and jumps up a lot in 2026. They got rid of Miggy even tho he was still on a cheap contract. Recently Soto got traded as well when he was on a cheap contract. If they don't have a competitive team Sandy will want to be traded anyways like Yelich and Realmuto did. If you remember the team preferred to keep them cuz they were still on cheap contracts but they didn't want to be here and the team got rid of them for prospects. As soon as there's signs of rebuild if they aren;t in the playoff hunt in summer, such as trading Bell which will probably happen, that will set the dominos for the rebuild not necessarily because the team wants a cheap payroll but because the players that are good and will be paid more won't be getting younger and will want to be somewhere competitive anyways.

Not once has Bruce Sherman given any indication of tanking in 2024. This is such a stupid discussion. Of course you can say "thats jumping to conclusions" but when the same conclusions happen for years and years of team history....

If Bell is traded at the deadline, that's not signaling a fire sale or rebuild either. Full-scale rebuild is not happening. Soto and Miggy were traded for similar reasons as Realmuto - they weren't going to sign an extension. Jose would have been traded after 2017 too, I'm sure, if what happened hadn't happened. And it would have been for the same reason. Sandy's contract will still be reasonably cheap even after it jumps up. $17M in '25. Not that bad. Won't be traded. DEFINITELY won't be traded this offseason. Maybe after '25, but that's probably the earliest. Let's see what happens. No reason to go full-scale rebuild. And finally, it is indeed jumping to conclusions. The guy hasn't even had the job 24 hours and you're screaming fire sale. lol

Come on man, really? Sandy's contract is nowhere near Giancarlo's. Soto - on another team, so not sure why this is relevant - wouldn't sign a 400M extension he was offered (IIRC that was the value), so they traded him. SD is probably going to trade him this offseason too to save payroll since they can't afford to give him an extension either, plus he's not signing an extension this close to FA. Realmuto, similarly, wouldn't sign an extension - given the team's situation at the time, it made sense to trade him if he wasn't being extended (the figures he wound up taking should've been offered by us). Yelich was on an affordable contract and should've been kept, but he was also the most likely to bring the biggest prizes if you're already trading multiple other guys - even if the trade didn't work out. Those teams were not coming off of a playoff appearance, and weren't close to that with a completely barren farm system. To act like that and this year are identical scenarios is laughable. Trading a piece like Bell - a guy on a one year deal - at the deadline if you're out of it is common practice for teams out of contention.....I have no idea how that would signal some massive rebuild.....

Don't you know by now that if anyone in the Marlins front office even throws out a pen that is out of ink it's considered the start of a rebuild?
