January 7, 200422 yr I wasn't too sure about bringing Maddux in, but you all make great points. He would be even more valuable as a teacher and mentor to the younger guys. If Mark Redman can do some of that with Dontrelle Willis, imagine what Greg Maddux can do with them. I don't see him signing with San Diego either, unless the Pads are playing games with him to force him to sign for less. Once they signed David Wells, I was under the impression that they wouldn't be going after Maddux anymore.

Ill take Maddux any day ova any these guys cuz with Maddux i know we got 15 wins in the bag and an ERA under 3.50 last year was a down year 4 maddux he had just 16 wins and an ERA under 4.. for most picthers thats great...... FACTS...... - Maddux was 7-8 with a 4.63 ERA be4 All Star break.,..... - Maddux was 9-3 with a 3.03 ERA after ALL Star break including 4-2 with a 2.25 ERA in August "the same month we went in a major slump" - Maddux 3-1 with a 3.03 ERA in teh month Sept aka the CLUTCH MONTH..... you would have to be a moron to say NO TO MADDUX...... i will take MADDUX OVA VLAD any f***ing day......

I think that only the Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees, Astros, and A's could argue that their rotation was better. of course, i still would rather have Vlad, just like all of us. but i would rank them Vlad, Maddux, Kendall. In fact, i would rank it Vlad, any legit starter\bullpen help, Kendall. I think Kendall can only drain money from this team.

January 7, 200422 yr Sauerbeck would be nice if nothing else as an option to get out tough lefthanded hitters. Maddux would be gold at the right price, but let's not break the bank for him either. I'd say if AJ comes back healthy, move Dontrelle to the pen if he's struggling.
January 7, 200422 yr Am I the only one who doesn't like this news? The club doesnt need a big name player that would soak up all the available money we might need if someone gets injured or is convicted of a crime. We can field a competitive team with a 1-year deals for Sauerbeck and Raul Mondesi (2.5M plus incentives mighty expensive for a bench player) or Orlando Palmeiro or Jacque Jones (available through trade).
January 7, 200422 yr I like the idea of Maddux, more so for the experience he brings to our young staff, but the money could be better spent. We need another starting pitcher as much as we need another third baseman.
January 7, 200422 yr Great news, I'd love for the marlins to pick up Sauerbeck. Maddux, now that's an interesting possibility. I've always been a fan of Maddux. (probably the only Brave I've ever been a fan of) He had an off year last year but he's still one of the top pitchers in the league and a 1st ballot hall of famer. I would only want him here for the right price, no need to overspend when starting pitching is already our strength. And of course Vlad would be great, I'm very interested to see how that situation plays out with the O's.

If it's not going to be Vladimir Guerrero, it could be Greg Maddux or Jason Kendall. Like the Mets, the Marlins aren't willing to match Baltimore's offer for Guerrero. However, they'd have a chance of getting him if he doesn't want to play for the Orioles. Maddux would certainly be helpful, but since the Marlins will have five starters once they get A.J. Burnett back, they might rather add a hitter. Acquiring Kendall for Ramon Castro would be another option if the Pirates are willing to pick up enough salary. January 7, 200422 yr Thats interesting that Castro could be traded to Pittsburgh, where his alleged crime took place. If that does happen, I doubt it would be before his trial.

January 7, 200422 yr Saurbeck intrigues me. :mischief2 I hope we can get a solid lefty like him in the pen. He had an awesome 2002 season but struggled last year. Still an improvement over any lefty in our pen.

I heard we are close to a deal with mondesi so that is good. It will be great if we get saurbeck because he is lefty and he is pretty damn good. Last but not least we gotta sign vlad. It's simple: All we need is a little bit of money and the stadium and boom he is ours because he doesn't really wanna go to baltimore. WOW!
