The general theme recently isn't that "we suck".......it's that we're in contention and instead of reinforcing the team, they punted for some future TBD season when "it's time".....whenever that might be, if it ever comes.

You posted a graphic that puts us at #9 in "real data" WAR at the time, yet it shows Pittsbugh at #7, above us, when they're behind us with 3 teams between us and them, while it has Philly, Arizona and San Diego all behind us in WAR, yet all three are ahead of us.

How is saying some statistic on paper doesn't equal actual results something controversial? It's a literal fact.....just because WAR says something doesn't mean that's what the standings show/that's how the game works out?

And to use your own line "I'm just pointing out numbers and not eye testing it" - I did post that we have a losing record in every month except March (4-1) and the crazy June (20-6). We're 13 games under when you take out the month of June, which thus far has been aberration.

I otherwise said that they'll have to have a great next month or two and that just coasting along at .500 in that timeframe likely won't get it done, since we're having to jump 2 teams to get in. All based on actual records, not some hypothetical WAR statistic of where we "should be."

I guess that all of that could be construed as "we suck" if you want to, when the record comment was just providing data to address a post saying they're probably closer to the team that started the year before getting hot. And lo and behold, aside from June and short March their record each month has been nearly identical (11-15, 11-18, 10-15).....if they fall back into one of those months' record/don't have a great last month or two, they aren't making it.

Again, not to say "we suck", it's just a fact they can't coast in. Maybe had they not had the 12-game losing streak they could've coasted in being 10 over, but that didn't happen.

What does suck is not having an ownership group that actually cares about something beyond their team spreadsheet on profit/loss.

June record counts as much as July does. Not sure what you’re doing there.

The WAR chart illustrates that there is absolutely room for a good run in late August and September. I can’t hold your hand through why those WAR stats are promising.

Your “lol the games aren’t played on paper” comment was made to slight the graph.

The Marlins have a 12% chance of making the playoffs so it’s obviously not likely (Max Meyer likely out for the season and Stowers IL stint REALLLY hurts) but let’s have fun with being ONE game behind the Phillies in the loss column (at the time of this post).

I won’t be going back and forth with you 47 times about the WAR chart and you rolling your eyes at it. We just don’t agree on it.

The bolded is bullshit. He was never going to pay a significant amount of that contract. I think he was planning on getting out of dodge no matter what happened with Jose. If he had remained owner he just would've done what Jeter and Co. ended up doing with Stanton.

I think Loria would've tried to move the contract at some point, but can also believe that he would've held out and "gone for it" until Fernandez was a FA had Fernandez not died.

He was supposed to be a free agent after the 2018 season, and passed in 2016, so that'd have been 2 more years....I could've seen Loria waiting through that. Loria kept the team through the 2017 season, after which this group shipped everyone out, as we obviously know.

That said, Stanton's contract jumped from $14.5M in 2017 to $25M in 2018, and Loria jumped ship before then lol.
