My stance is I have a lot frustration with the teams cheap spending on FAs who clearly weren’t going to work out and also the lack of interest in trying to compete short term, but also that Bendix is trying to build a team that is consistently competitive and in the playoff hunt everywhere and he’s proven to me that he will accomplish it. It won’t happen this year and maybe not next but it will. I wish it was sooner but alas

To be honest I'm more focused on how guys like Santiago Solarte and Brandon Compton are doing than worrying about short-term things. I'm glad you think my goal is not to win a championship but unfortunately you are 100% wrong. I hope we win every day but am realistic enough to know there will be ups and downs.

All along the approach has been sustained long-term success. That means contending year in and year out. Contending for a championship to be clear.

There is a clear plan for this and the decision-makers have stuck pretty consistently to this plan. As a fan I have many frustrations with the progress but I understand that it is going to be a bumpy road.

One time I was at a bar and there was an idiotic Philly fan sitting next to me We were talking about Bryce Harper since he's from my hometown and when Harper struck out in the 5th he let out a bunch of expletives. Of course, Harper hit the game winner in the ninth and he said that's my boy. I want nothing to do with that kind of fan.

I am a day one Marlins fan and will be one until I die. From skipping out to have an expansion draft party complete with teal streamers and balloons to wearing my tie to crying reading The Chicken Runs at Midnight to proudly wearing my tie at work the night Josh Beckett brought down the evil empire. So respectfully, have a good day.

A Vet/Former MVP on the downside of his career who would sign for the pro rated MLB minimum in a heartbeat if it meant he'd get on a MLB roster.
A Vet that can teach a few things, lead by example and help a few kids still trying to find their way.

The Marlins won't even look his way. For a prorated MLB Contract or even a Minor League one.

That's the difference between hope, and whatever the fuck this is.

Atleast the previous regime would sign Luis Gonzalez, Jaque Jones, Mike Cameron, Furcal, Helms, Juan Pierre, Kearns, Penny, Ellis.

None of those guys have the resume that McCutchen has. Yet Sherman will make sure Bendix' office phone cant dial out to him without calling collect.

I looked at their schedule and came up with this:

March: 4-1

April: 11-15

May: 11-18

June: 20-6

July: 10-15

August: 4-4 (as of 8/10)

So a short March and the crazy June were their only over .500 months. (24-7)

August is at .500 even thus far (4-4)

The remaining months (April, May, July) have been a combined 16 games under .500. (32-48)

Mack at C was a significant upgrade over Gus and Stowers over Slater was significant upgrade. Most of our SP are injured too and it’s a daddy dix miracle they haven’t been that bad with gusto Phillips and bullpen day starting 3 of 5 days

Anything is possible, but we also have to jump 2 teams currently to sneak in. It's certainly doable, but they can't just have an average month and a half of the remaining season and expect to get in.

To make matters worse, pauley is up with Stowers injury

We picked up Wilkeman Gonzalez from the White Sox off waivers to fill the open 40-man spot. He looks like a Victor Vodnik like reclamation project or worse the pitching equivalent of Leo Jimenez. Gonzalez has options however, so he will be assigned to AAA.

The game is not played on paper, but a team that underperforms its peripherals is way more likely to win in the near future than one that overperforms them like the 2023 Marlins. It's not a guarantee, but consistantly good peripheral stats are a recipe for sustained success.
