New name in potential Gathright trade?
I would still like to give it a few more weeks, until the rotation settles down after the off days, plus I take it you mean Gathright in the title thread. Thanks Cambridge...I guess for Crawford we may give Olsen AND Nolasco

New name in potential Gathright trade?
WHAT'S THE DEAL: The Rays are still talking about outfielder Joey Gathright with several interested teams, including the Marlins, though no deal appears imminent. Even with Rocco Baldelli 's availability to play centerfield unclear, the Rays appear willing to deal Gathright for one premium pitching prospect. Though earlier talks seemed to focus on left-hander Scott Olsen , the Rays are said to have been impressed this spring by right-hander Ricky Nolasco , one of three pitchers the Marlins acquired from the Cubs for outfielder Juan Pierre .

Bump sent down to start
One might guess that this is Chris Resop's dad.

The Resurgance of a Marlins Fan
Why all the big hooplah? The team didn't leave. The fans reading your message didn't leave. You left and let's be honest...you'll leave again. Was it a shock to you that the Marlins fit some new players into their uniforms? Why would just seeing the Marlins on TV turn you around? Was that a complete shock to you? Welcome back....no need to let us know when you leave again.

Olsen makes strong bid to join rotation
Last season, Mitre threw 66% groundballs. He allowed 41 flyballs of which 11 went for home runs. These were mistake pitches because concentration has been what has done him in. More evidence.... Mistakes in Wrigley are costly. In his career he has given up 16 home runs, 12 of them in Wrigley. @Wrigley 12 HR's 68.1 IP on Road 4 HR's 52.1 IP 11 of the 18 HRs have been with the bases empty. With the bases empty batters have a .316 average against him. 1st and 2nd = .244 1st and 3rd = .235 2nd and 3rd = .182 With runners in scoring position he K's 1 in 5 batters. With bases empty he K's 1 in 7 batters. Our ballpark should help and most of all hopefully maturity will have him concentrate each and every inning. For years we had that problem with Josh Beckett until he matured and got over that one bad inning....or AJ's problem of letting one hit followed by a walk turn into a big inning because he was thinking more about what happened instead of what's next. I think Mitre will be a solid pitcher at some point.

S.I. Fantasy Baseball Rankings
It is truly meaningless but I found some of this interesting. What it does have me wondering is will SI shock us and predict the Marlins for something other than last place and destined for a 100 loss season? Carlos Delgado ranked as MLB's 10th best Fantasy pickup at the position. Mike Jacobs ranked as MLB's 12th best Fantasy pickup at the position. Luis Castillo 25th Dan Uggla 24th Alex Gonzalez 28th Hanley Ramirez 13th Mike Lowell 25th Miguel Cabrera 2nd Juan Pierre 19th Jeremy Hermida 25th Juan Encarnacion 50th (that's all they rank) Josh Willingham 14th Paul LoDUca 21st Dontrelle Willis 13th AJ Burnett 23rd Josh Beckett 26th Todd Jones 20th Accoding to SI (Fantasy-wise) we are better at CA, 2B, SS, 3B and RF...worse at 1B, CF and LF. Obviously our pitching is below last-season but I think we are all on the same train that says Willis, Vargas, Olsen, Nolasco, Josh Johnson, Sanchez, Petit, etc. will be just fine for us in the near future. Who knows about the pen.....Borowski, Herges and Lightenburg as our vets....there's a reason they were available.

A.J. Burnett's injury
I too have taken shots at AJ and hope he is alright. I will get much more satisfaction seeing him blow big games. That being said....Jack McKeon abused pitchers in the past and did with Pavano and AJ as well.

And starting at 2B.....
Manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday that Dan Uggla will likely be the Marlins' starting second baseman. "When we brought him in, our hope was he would be our everyday second baseman," Girardi said. "He has made great progress. Right now he is our everyday second baseman." Don't expect a ton, but he's worth a look in NL-only leagues. Mar. 16 - 10:31 am et

McKeon worried for Marlins
I love it when people want to compare this area to another specific area. There are hundreds are cities that are not putting a dime into sradiums...but they like to pint out the 1-2 areas that are. I am not putting down Indianapolis by any means, but it's not an area that needs to ensure its tourism remains constant and happy. It's not an area that needs to ensure that the large population of elderly are taken care of. It's not an area that needs to battle with the state for funds because unlike us their state is not divided in two. And unlike us their city is not recovering financially from a hurricane and their state is not recovering from multiples hurricanes. This is not an excuse for us...but it should be a reason for people outside our area to understand that this area has avenues of concern that need our money more than a very wealthy owner. Baseball came here and DS was good enough for them. MLB's John Henry was allowed to sign a ridiculous lease with Wayne and now MLB wants us to fix it. Maybe Jack should compare us to New Jersey who had the Jets/Giants build their own stadium. Naaaah!

McKeon to Join Team on Monday
Don't ruin the fun, Jack! These guys are already working hard and accomplishing so much, they don't all need to be humilated. your such a dink Boog, how many more players need to refer to Jack's inability run a solid clubhouse b4 everyone believes it? Castillo was the latest saying Jack just wouldn't rest him....ran him into the ground until he was injured.

It's a looooooooooooong season but
I said early on that we'd have a good spring (at least the first half). While other teams have a handful of youngsters busting their butt to make the team we have an entire camp doing so. While other teams have pitchers working on new pitches and just geting prepared our guys are pitching these games as if they are meaningful (because for them they are). Also, come late in the games we have a clear advantage since our propects are superior to other team's prospects. I am interested to see how we do in the final 10 spring games. The solid pitching pitching is great to see. The hitting come alive is great to see. The wins/losses at this point are meaningless. That being said, winning is better than losing

Could this be a solution to our CF woes
Emergance of Jason Stokes? It's been a few at bats in spring training...let's not call him Fred McGriff just yet. We know Stokes has ability...we have known that for years. If Stokes breaks out in the Majors we can always deal Jacibs mid-season. We are in no position to deal power bats just yet.

Ramirez vs Andino
With Andino playing well I am surprised we have not given Ramirez some time in CF...a place he does have some experience.

Starters for First 3 Exhibition Games
Early rotation: Girardi has lined up his starters for the first three exhibition games. Starting against the University of Miami at 3:05 p.m. ET on Wednesday in Jupiter will be Jason Vargas, who will pitch two innings. Other pitchers scheduled to throw that day are Allen Baxter, Harvey Garcia, Jose Garcia, Carlos Martinez, Scott Tyler, Taylor Tankersley and Jesus Delgado. For the first Grapefruit League game, set for Thursday against the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale, Dontrelle Willis will start and throw three innings, or 50 pitches. Josh Johnson will follow, then Buddy Carlyle, Joe Borowski, Chris Resop and Randy Messenger. On Friday at Jupiter against Baltimore, Brian Moehler will start. Fish bites: There is no front-runner at the shortstop spot, as rookies Ramirez and Andino are neck-and-neck. Reese is a fallback option. ... Chris Aguila is impressing in camp and will be used in games in left field, center and right. ... Tuesday's workouts will begin about 10 a.m. ET on the back fields at Roger Dean Stadium.

SAMMY SOSA
Imagine this. 1. CF 2. RF Hermidia 3. 1st Jacobs 4. 3rd Cabrera 5. LF Sosa 6. C Olivio / Willingham 7. 2nd uggla/ Reese 8. SS Hanley Ramirez 9. Pitcher I think they can make the playoffs with this line up.. So what you are saying is a team with any CF'er, a minor league RF, 2B, SS and CA, and a LF'er no other team wants teamed with Jacobs and Cabrera is a playoff lineup? Wow! If that's the case why don't all teams do this? Seems to be that Uggla/Reese/Olivo/Sosa/ unnamed CF'er were all there for anyone to grab. That's 1/2 our lineup

Marlins Mailbag: What will happen if we DO get a stadium
Petit for Gathright. Do it, do it. Please no. .250 hitter....can't get the ball up in the air which means no gap hits...and his batting eye is poor. Petit better not be going anywhere.

Marlins Mailbag: What will happen if we DO get a stadium
Gathright is far superior to Bubba Crosby....and I am not a huge Gathright fan. Crosby has an OB% that is unacceptable and at 29 years of age he isn't likely to improve his game much. Guys I'd like the Marlins to take a look at: 1. Endy Chavez (Mets) 2. Jason Tyner (Twins) 3. Tike Redman (Mets)
