Will Fredi Gonzalez Get Cuban Community to Care?
I'm not hispanic so I can't speak for anyone who is but isn't it a slap in the face to say going or not going is linked to the heritage of the manager? I like Dontrelle, Cabrera and Scott Olsen...can you tell what I am? It's crazy talk if ya ask me. I will be honest, it bothered me when Tony Perez was manager. I love Tony but I could not understand a word he said and I wasnt to understand the manager. If someone thinks Freddi may draw more Cuban fans doesnt that mean he may lose native American fans? Stop! Freddi is a good pick...and I can understand what he has to say when speaking English so all is well with me. You're Chinese, right? :mischief Hey, I'm still getting over Mike Jacobs not being Jewish. I can't believe all the games I went to thinking he was....I was scammed! Scammed I tellya!

Girardi Fired, Gonzalez Hired
Guys, Just because John Kruk and Co. says everyone will pounce on Girardi do not believe it. He will not be a Cubs manager, his dream job. We can say what we want about Loria but getting along with employees has never been a major obstacle for him. I don't think we have many here that feel Beinfest is an issue....well, when other GMs call Admin to discuss the problems what will he say? How he didn't want the GM's imput? The scouts input? How he didn't control his bench coach? There is a reason Joe seemed to be going over the top in telling the media he wanted to stay and that is probably because he has been informed some doors have closed.

BBTN
Only problem with this thread: - The day they someome like Kruk praises a Marlin the same people jump on the board speaking about Kruk as if his opinion is meaningful. - Don't you think evety city thinks their team gets the shaft (outside of maybe a couple)?

Marlins fans would you make this trade...
I am someone willing to trade anyone. But would you trade Albert Pujols for Mark McGwire in his prime? To me thats Cabrera vs Howard. Both great...Cabrera is the better hitter. Howard the better slugger.

Best choice for manager in 2007?
Fredi Gonzalez would be fine, his bio does look impressive and even when he took over a couple of games in 1999 when John Boles was out of time he did well. Also I like the presence of a Latin Manager and it would just make Cabrera and the other guys feel better. Cabrera is fighting for the batting title. I would say he feels pretty good already. But why aren't you worried about how the "Anglo" players feel. Are you some king of bigot? What about Uggla. Let's get a Swedish-American manager for him; and a Texan for Josh Johnson, and maybe a black manager since Willis is our highest paid player. And what about Willingham, Hermida, Abercrombie, Olsen, Borowski, Messenger, Moehler, Treanor, Helms, Jacobs, Borchard, Ross, etc. We certainly can't hire a "Latin" and piss off all those non-Latin players , now, can we? Stop with the ethnic BS. Like Fredi because he has talent, not because he's "Latin." Ethnic BS? If your looking to stir things up, I suppose I'll end it right there and not feud with you over something stupid. What I mean is it would be nice to a see a Latin Manager who can speak both languages. Does Fredi have talent as manager? Obviously otherwise the Marlins wouldn't even be considering him as a candiate and he wouldn't have been runner up last year. I would like for them to hire Fredi because he is still young and he can pick up right where Giradi left off and his relationship will be much better then what Giradi was. Now for you to say to pick a manager of each ethnic race for the type of players on this team. Come the heck on dude, who's been immature? Re-think what you type before you think about attacking me, I have done nothing but been loyal to this forum and stayed out of conversations like this. My 2 Cents. Come on now. You can't have it both ways. You can't say having a Latin manager would nice and then get all bent out of shape when someone calls you on it. Hell, I'd like to have a Jewish manager for Mike Jacobs

Source: Girardi Not Coming Back
Among the list mentioned I think it comes down to three candidates. Fredi Gonzalez - Fredi knows the organization, the management, the division, the South Florida area. He deserves a shot but I wonder if he has any hard feelings not getting the nod over Girardi. Manny Acta - He worked for Loria & co. in Montreal. His name has floated as a solid managerial candidate and he has managed everywhere...except in the majors. Jerry Manuel - Has managed and won (.515 winning %). Youthful, yet experienced and also familiar with the area. My prediction among these names would be: Jerry Manuel.

Source: Girardi Not Coming Back
manger of the year and go to the windy city where he is respected i know lots of chicago peeps that want him bad welcome to the big time where the market is 10 times what fla. offers ..sorry but its the truth and the fans will embrace him And you said what moments before Dusty Baker was hired? Exactly. And think about this. Why is it that no other manager is getting credit for their team being a winner other than Girardi? So if Joe was in KC they'd be on the heels of the A's? If he was took the Tampa Bay job would they be in the mix? Joe Girardi did a great job shaping this team and creating a work ethic that matched his own. But Joe Girardi as a game-day manager is quite bad. He may improve, he is a rookie. But unless he learns to respect authority (Loria) and ability (Beinfest/scouts) he is doomed to run into similar problems in Chicago or anywhere he ends up. The same man that thinks its okay to grab a player by the collar cannot be the same man that thinks its okay to tell your boss to shut the F up. Can't have it both ways Joe. Oh, 10X the Florida Market? You must mean South Florida. So Chicago has 40MM people? If you meant attendance, it's 3X. If Girardi didn't like one man yelling at him along the dugout, just wait until Wrigley's 39K let him know on a daily basis what they think.

Let's Make a Deal
Name me one MLB signed for 5 years or more that has been worth the money. I am not saying there are not any...just asking for someone to name one. IMO...Pitchers get no more than a 3/4 year deal. Batters no more than a 5-6 year deal.

Predict the 2007 Opening Day lineups and rotation
Torii Hunter will be looking at $10-$12MM. Cameron will be 34 years old and if the Padres won't pick up his $7M option no one else will pay him $7M. I figure he gets a 2 year deal for $12-$13M.

Cameron is a FA unless SD picks up Cameron's option @ $7M. They just might do that but then again, maybe not.

Predict the 2007 Opening Day lineups and rotation
Knowing the Marlins they will most likely be in discussions with the Rays to try and work out a deal for Crawford if Loria does decide to put a little more money out on the table. I just can't see the Marlins trying to pick up Cameron anytime soon or even at all. I would hate to move Willingham but if it does bring Crawford then I would do it in a heart beat. With that being said if we do aquire him we would need to have CF cemented already with a proven player. Cy, Cameron's age does concern me...if ya wanna change the name fine but my thought it to make sure we have a solid glove out there who can also hit a little. What if Torii Hunter ends up with the BoSox, would Coco Crisp be intriguing? Probably so and he is not too costly.

Predict the 2007 Opening Day lineups and rotation
All I know is that I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Olsen, Nolasco or Johnson weren't on the team next year. Stag5, I'm not sure WHY you would want to give up Willingham with the season he's had. You are basically substituting a 30-100-.850 (.900) OPS guy for another talented outfielder. Defeats the purpose. EL, I am a big fan of Willingham but in all honesty he is probably best served in the AL where he can DH more and serve as a 4th/5th OF'er. As for our starting pitchers, we are loaded...and we also have Petit, Pinto, Volstad, etc, etc. We will make trades in the next couple of seasons for depth elsewhere. Carl Crawford is a complete player.

Predict the 2007 Opening Day lineups and rotation
My assumptions are Loria is gauranteed a stadium and increased payroll to approximately $30M. LF Crawford * 2B Uggla RF Hermida 3B Cabrera 1B Jacobs CF Cameron ** 2B Uggla CA Olivo Rotation: 1. Willis 2. Sanchez 3. Olsen 4. Johnson 5. Pinto Bullpen: Closer: Tankersley Setup: Brian Meadows *** Setup: Alan Embree **** LH Specialist: Steve Kline ***** MR: Herges MR: Jose Garcia LR: Mitre (Bowyer, Resop, Messenger and others in the mix) * Willingham, Nolasco & Petit to the Rays for Carl Crawford - I think the Rays can be persuaded to move Crawford with a solid bat(DH/OF) and two people that could probably step right into the rotation. Crawford Contract: 07:$4M, 08:$5.25M, 09:$8.25M club option ($2.5M buyout), 10:$10M club **Camerson - Free Agent 06:$6M, 07:$7M club option ($0.5M buyout) - Padres may pick up his option but if not he can be had for probably around 2yrs/$12-$13M ***Brian Meadows REC 3-6 | SV 8 | ERA 5.40 | WHIP 1.58 ****Alan Embree REC 4-3 | SV 0 | ERA 3.38 | WHIP 1.26 *****Steve Kline REC 4-3 | SV 1 | ERA 3.42 | WHIP 1.50 (This trio can be had via FA for approx $5M)

My letter to Hartford's Fox Affiliate
Very nice reply. You won't get Hartford pulling off the Mets and that's understandable...but are the Mets fielding a Game of the Week lineup or will they be restings players and sending out 1/3 of their regulars each day?

Is it safe to say we are done for?
4 back in the loss column with 16 to play? Yes, we are done but not done enough to give up. We lost control of our own destinty beyond running off a 13-3 or 12-2 finish. One game at a time.

Centerfielder for next year.
My Prediction: Mike Cameron Yes, it will be costly but I think there is a reason we didn't acquire someone towards the end of the season. Cameron is as good a CF'er as any and we need someone like that roaming the spacious CF we have.

Nice Job Tonight Joe
Herges did fine. It just wasnt our night. We couldnt get any breaks. No need to blame Joe when we lose. Holly, I am not going to say anyone would have done better but 41 pitches is quite a it. 41 pitches is extending Herges. When he starts to falter as he heads towards 41 pitches that's not a 'just not our day'. And when we have a manager that says he manages each day now as if today is all that matters when was he going to make a change? Was it when Herges started to lose it? When the tying runs were on base? When the Mets took the lead by 1? When the Mets took the lead by 2? When the Mets took the lead by 3? BINGO! And anyone wanna explain to me the Amezaga incident? We are now brinigng him into the game for defensive reasons? And if so, he enters the game for one inning only to be replaced for a PH? This put the bat in Eric Reed's hands who should have been asked to bunt and force the Mets to make a play. Why did Reed not play CF for that one ining and he PH for which leave Amezaga in the game longer and his bat in the lineup instead of Reed? Girardi was outmanaged by Willie Randolph and that's not easy to do. You must be joking so Im not going to get into the ridiculousness of this post. The Marlins did not plate the runner on 3rd which would have been a huge insurance run and the bullpen blew its second consecutive game at a crucial time in the season. Other than the Marlins getting all the bad breaks in the game, thats all there is to it. Don, where did I say that was not a cause or even the biggest cause of our loss. My point was that Girardi did make a mistake with the pen and was outmanaged. In an extra inning game you don't allow you extended reliever to give up 1 run...and then another....and then another. You do your best to keep it a one run game.

"South Florida sports fans and media should be ashamed of themsel
I don't think we actually disagree with anything. All the reasons you stated on why attendance is important I agree with. My point is, why isn't TV ratings the issue? We do well in TV ratings...isn't that a judge of team support too? In the end teams have a bottom line. That as you know consists of everything from attendance to sales of caps and jerseys to TV deals, etc. Notice how MLB only lets us see and debate certain numbers? We are give the numbers that consist of nothing more than counting each other in the stands but NOTHING is released with how much we spend. What is released is what works for MLB. What fans get all antsy about is exactly what MLB tells us to. Let's debate TV ratings. DO we know what they are? How we compare? I don't. The debate is attendance because how best to make the comsumer feel sorry for the team, the sport than to blame ourselves. I do not mean to compare but it's like the beaten spouse or child that thinks they deserve it. There is a way to get more fans to the stadium. Have the Marlins really tried to do that? Does that really work in their favor at this time?

"South Florida sports fans and media should be ashamed of themsel
Come on people, stop being sheep. Publicly traded companies release their financial situations and sales(attendance). Privately held companies like your local restaurant do not. MLB teams do not open their books, we have no idea how much they make or lose...but we need to know attendance figures? Why? Why is this of my concern? We had less than 5% of the locals show up for this past election and no one cares but we are suppose to do backflips because attendance at the stadium is low? Start worrying about sales within our local economy and stop worrying about attendance at the stadium when if things were in such bad shape why is MLB pushing hard for a stadium here? This topic is getting very old and is simply the result of brainwashing by the league, the announcers, etc. Anyone old enough to have watched baseball in the 70's and 80's knows that crowds in the mid teens were the norm. Things only changed when MLB started to push the attendance # and use it as a threat against cities. Again, if the threat was real....if it really mattered...MLB would not be negotiating with Miami now would they? It would be nice to have larger crowds for the team....but if someone decides to spend their money elsewhere I have no problem with that. Just my two cents.
