"All You Can Eat" Games
I don't like the "all you can eat" idea. Personally, when I go to a Marlins game at Joe Robbie it's a matter of how little you can eat. Not talking about price here, but quality and price. Hopefully the food will be better when/if we get the new stadium. In the meantime, while at Joe Robbie, I've been advocating for years that a dollar night promotion stadium wide would be wise. Just not sure what terms they could work out with the devil(Huizenga) to make this happen. I'm convinced that there are plenty of fans who do not go because they know it's going to cost $20 per person. For years now, I've had good tickets, including skyboxes, that I literally couldn't give away because the parent knew it would cost them $40 to take their son/daughter even with free skybox seats. They'd go if it was only $4 per person for food. And all this is more relevant in light of the economy now. Just look at what 8 years of incompetent compassionate conservatism has gotten us. We're on the verge of a depression, and mired in a misguided war. Wrong thread, you sound like a friend of mine, always blaming America for every ill in the world. If the street light is not working, out of nowhere he opines that "we can spend billions fighting an illegal war" but not fix the lights and on and on and on. Yet he is happy that the same income he makes now costs him at least $5,000 less in income taxes than it would have in 1998. Oh yea, our Cuba policy is the reason the people are not free (as per Barak) it has nothing to do with the tyrant. And from what I read, there is a possible period of recession, not A DEPRESSION, big difference. But it will be fine, as soon as we have face to face sushi with the Iranian madmen who advocates the total annihilation of Israel and that its people are "dirty microbes and savage animals". Because all these people want is to be understood. Fortunately, at it may not be enough, some people already understand what is going on and you can thank your free butt that they do. You're right. I got off-topic there. The discussion is about an edible hot dog at a reasonable price. For the record though, we are in a recession right now, possibly heading for worse, with a depression a possibility. And I would advocate bombing Iran from what I know. I'm also not blaming America. I think we have the best country on Earth, just some misguided leadership of late. Nothing that a good $1 hot dog couldn't cure:), or at least help as far as attendance at Marlins games go. Better than "all you can eat". And you are correct also, I do apologize. These are emotional times. I only blame Wayne for the food, I paid $8 bucks for a gyro and opened it and it had two measly strips of meat in a fat pita. It looked good because you can have the two strips hanging out. That is why the street vendors outside the OB are the best. You get a great hot dog or sausage smothered in stuff, hot onions and kraut and peppers, that they take right off the grill in front of you, not sitting in a hot box and a package of lousy relish.

I had a feeling they would do this after they traded Miggy. They were worried he would buy a ticket and go out there and you know.......

Hanley gets a new contract
Brewers did the same thing for Prince and he went CRAZY on the organization... Im glad Hanley shows great respect w/ a positive attitude.. Close to the same thing except Fielder is still getting about $200,000 more, which at their pay scale is about 42% more than Hanley is getting. You can pay them now or you can pay them more later-of course, we usually trade them also. We have a stadium coming, Loria has made some sort of promise regarding payroll, a real definite maybe, and we can only wait and see.

Loria to increase payroll
I thought this was a given, thanks for letting us in on your plans Loria. He really has no choice, imagine if he doesnt? He'd have to hire a horde of bodyguards. He lives in NY much of the time. I know Loria wants to win, just hope he doesn't fool himself believing that he will just get lucky again. It usually takes a long range committment to quality to win.

Question about stadium for all
I have not been keeping up with the latest situation regarding the new Marlins Ballpark. I tried looking through some of the threads in this forum but I have not been able to find a good answer to the question. Are we getting a new stadium or not? If it is still up in the air what roadblocks remain? Any other info about the new ballpark would also be helpful. Maybe we should consider putting up a sticky thread with the most recent information regarding the new ballpark so people like me, who have been away from the board and do not live in Miami but still want an update to the latest news. Just an idea. Anyhow, thanks in advance for bringing me up to date! Go Marlins. Lookin forward to this season.... You have got to be kidding?

I didn't believe it until I "heard" it myself
Cameron Maybin, who can't hit anything off-speed, knows what to do with a fastball as he proved today. And when he connects, as we've read his former coaches and scouts say the ball DOES SOUND DIFFERENT COMING OFF HIS BAT. Everyone noticed it's a !! crack !! that speaks to his future as an outstanding major leaguer. Jose Cantu's play at third base today included in his first three plays an error, letting a throw he was supposed to cut off go through his legs and a throwing error. Even the first play he made (to first) he bobbled the ball before making the throw. Let's hope McPherson heals quickly or they try Robert Andino (who made a couple of stellar plays) at third, otherwise Castillo wins by default. My god Andrew Miller is thin ! And good. I happen to be seated such that looking to my left I could watch every pitch while Miller warmed up for two innings, throwing strike after strike after strike from the bullpen mound. All in all three balls were put in play, a single and two ground balls. Sink, sink, sink. Cody Ross is not about go quietly into the still night, not with the homerun he hit today. Who the hell is this kid Tagg Bozied or whatever? Did he come down from a spaceship in the middle of the night to steal fame away from Gaby Sanchez? Only one game, what a great swing and more than held his own at first. Who knows, he may never have another game like this one today but it was nice to watch. Justin Miller is still slinging and Matt Lindstrom can still throw 100 mph and the bullpen looks like they're ready to start the season. Lindstrom's changeup is improving and setting it up with his fastball should be illegal. Now if he can just get control of a breaking ball I might join the "trade Kevin Gregg" chorus but we aren't there yet. We saw some of the worst baseball ever, by both teams, in the first inning, but once things settled down it was a pretty good game if you were a Marlins fan (and I'd say more than 50% of the people there were). I'll give Cantu some more time to get comfy. Tagg was a top power prospect in the Padre organization. I looked him up a little today, because I was curious about someone named Tagg playing baseball. Real name: Robert Tanios Taggert Bozied . Padres let him go in April 06: "The Padres released Triple-A first baseman Tagg Bozied, who was one of their top power-hitting prospects before he ruptured a knee tendon while celebrating a walk-off grand slam for Portland on July 19, 2004."(By Tom Krasovic UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER). The same article reported this interesting tidbit: "The Padres signed Bozied for about $700,000 after drafting him in 2001; the Padres since haven't drafted an amateur whose legal adviser was agent Scott Boras. Padres chairman John Moores has said that amateurs advised by Boras aren't a great bet for success. "

A few questions about visiting Miami for a series
Thanks for all the great information guys! I came across something that shows the Marlins opponents stay at the The Westin Diplomat on South Ocean Drive in Hollywood. Is this something anyone can confirm? Once again, thanks for all the great info! The Westin Diplomat is a good choice, and the golf course on property is nice. It says hollywood, but it is just north of hallandale beach blvd and the access to the stadium is about the same as aventura. Pretty easy to get to, about 15-20 minutes tops, plenty of restaurants on Hallandale bch blvd.

A few questions about visiting Miami for a series
Your seats will be pretty close to the visitors dugout. Not right above it, but more towards the on-deck circle. Don't know much about any hotels nearby or anything... The Stadium is a dump...don't be expecting much of an atmosphere, just be glad you're getting to see your cubs. Oh btw, expect there to be more Cubs fans than Marlins fans. It'll be like Wrigley version 2.0 The stadium is not a dump. It is just that it is a football stadium and compared to Wrigley, it has great amenities, but not the same atmosphere. Do not stay at the El Palacio. Depends on your budget, if you want to sightsee, stay on the ocean etc. You can stay on the ocean without the price of S. Beach, just look up hotels in Sunny Isles and be sure of the address (Collins Ave A1A) to avoid being tricked to thinking you are on the ocean, rather than the intercoastal. If you don't want that, a good choice, right near the Aventura Mall, which is about the nicest mall in the terms of stores almost anywhere, would be the Courtside Marriott. From there it is a short drive west to the stadium, about8 or nine miles, easy to get to, easy to get back. Here is a link:http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/miaav-courtyard-miami-aventura-mall/

Let's not mention Miggy, everytime I think I am over it, then I think about his talent and plooey, back to being depressed.

This is great, but I really enjoyed having the last game vs the Mets on for so long. It was basking in the joy of beating them out of everything. Now it is time to look to the future-a real future.

Stadium Plans
Why even a retractable roof? It's too hot in Miami, particularly in Summer. Because there is nothing worse than having to watch a baseball game in a domed stadium! Plus, on a beautiful and dry summer night, you want to be "outdoors" for a baseball game and not inside some concrete mausoleum, like the old Olympic Stadium, Kingdome, and Tropicana Field! Plus, baseball was meant to be played on grass, not fake plastic stuff with shredded tire rubber being used to simulate "dirt." I agree, I like the tropical nights but not the coal fire pizza afternoons. I expect the dry evenings to have an open roof, even if it opens after the start time. This will be a grass field also.

Stadium Plans
It will be beautiful from the inside, no matter what. And when it is the 6th inning of a summertime game and the roof is closed, the lightning and rain pounding outside, it will be more beautiful when you remember that in the "good ole days" you were looking at a restart time of 11 pm to finish the game. Or just as bad, those quick 15 minute downpours that took an hour between the start of the rain and getting the field ready to play, the havoc is would create to the pitching staff, the bullpen etc. would carryover for days. In every way, it will be more beautiful every day.

News and Notes
OMG can you imagine the World Baseball Classic here!!!??? That would be awesome to see world wide talent, especially Cuba. I highly doubt the Cuban team would be allowed to play here anytime soon. Unless Barak wins since he thinks we should speak to any despotic maniacal murdering regime without preconditions. Oops, sorry, do not want to turn this political, so, to get back on track, I prefer lawns to a parking garage that will take forever to get out of since I rarely leave before the game ends.

When do we become the Miami Marlins?
I hope they don't go back to the old Miami Marlins uniforms with the blue and orange. They'd look like the Mets. :| I wouldn't mind. Gator colors :thumbup LOL I say it's Bronco colors. But I also say orange and blue. However, I will let you steal a saying from us. "If God dosen't like the Broncos, why are sunsets orange?" No charge. Pollution

Area around the new stadium.
I remember reading somewhere that there are plans to tidy up the surrounding area. Ex: Restaurants, bars, etc. More like a Wrigley Field feel. Anyone know any of their plans? There are plenty of restaurants, on every corner at the stadium-the best hot dogs, arepa's, shish ka bob, suasages etc. Just no seating, and lots of drinking.

"I hope I can stay here my entire career."
Don't think Loria didn't think about the trade for Kobe, the Forum and the Stadium. Didn't happen only because he didn't want to pick up Kobe's guaranteed contract.

Marlins Stadium Subsidy Might Violate State Constitution
I've always found it expensive to argue with lawyers, my own or otherwise so I'll defer to you. Haha...hey, believe me, nobody hopes I'm wrong on this more than me! In fact, if the Marlins legal team was looking for help to defend against this Braman case, I'd consider working pro bono..... I am not a lawyer, but as a CPA have read many contracts, but it does not seem to deal with sports specifically but any "corporation". Now would that not open a big door regarding tax exemptions to lure businesses to the state and cities, as is often done. "...lend or use its taxing power or credit to aid any corporation, association, partnership or person.?

Marlins Stadium Subsidy Might Violate State Constitution
Oh, while also making the blanket statement that the yankees are privately financing the stadium, it would be nice to be a bit more honest such as:Cost: Approximately $1.3 billion Public financing: $220 million from New York City for parking facilities ($75 million), parkland along the waterfront ($135 million) and other work related to the stadium. Yes, the yankees are financing most of it, but it would be a bit more factual to also represent that public financing for the poor downtrodden Yankees is $430 million, plus 165 mill to the mets. That is a minimum of almost $600 million in public financing-that's right, $600 Million. Puts a different perspective if that was fairly included in the article.

Deal for New Ballpark on Table
yes, they become the Miami Marlins upon opening that stadium ah...so we still stay florida marlins while we remain in dolphin stadium then...that sucks... yes change of name part of agreement so name will still the same untill 2011 Makes my tat worth some $$$ after the name change. Bet the wife amputates my arm when I die. I heard she doesn't want to wait. Anyway, 38 years before the fish can move-and I expect to be there all 38 years-eek 93 at that time-they better extend it.
