Anibal Sanchez

The Mets
Does any one else notice as soon as the mets win a series or win a few everyone on BBT or SC thinks oh here they come their out of their slump watch out. It drives me crazy. The marlins could win 6 or 7 in a row and thats a fluke. it's annoying. watch the mets drop another two series and then it's 'are the mets done?' yet again. espn needs to change their name to nespn or something, they fawn all over the ny and boston teams so much. the mets are a .500 team, nothing more. they have no momentum at all and still have major issues in the clubhouse and the front office that won't be fixed in time for a 2008 playoff appearance. You mean like this morning on SC-"METS MOMENTUM". It is almost like the team between the Phils and everyone else is a blank line in the standings. Has anyone besides us noticed what an outstanding streak Nolasco has been on. You would think there might be some respect for that. Put him on the Mutts and he is the next "great one".

Injury Notes And Intresting Roster Moves
Ok here are some moves from AAA Bobby Keppel was added to the roster from A-Short Season Jamestown - This one makes no sense unless he went on a short rehab assignment. He's been a 'Tope all season. Chris Michalak was placed on the DL Marcos Carvajal was released - Finally. The Mets were right to release him and so were we. 40 man roster spot picked up. Randy Williams was activated from the DL - He'll be in the bigs sooner rather than later. Taylor Tankersley was added after being demoted from the Marlins. His yellow teeth are gone and so is the mystery in his pitch selection. Was it my imagination or does it look like he out on 10-15 lbs this season? GABY HERNANDEZ was demoted to AA Carolina Gaby replaces Volstad in the rotation in Carolina About Tank-noticed the same the other night-looked like he was really saving meal money by eating fast fried food-easily put on 15 lbs.

Mark Hendrickson steaming
It is obvious the lasik laser slipped and made Mark delusional as well as still being a bad pitcher.

I hate living in Tampa. Read this crap.
Tampa is the 2nd best Sports city in AMerica? That is why it is a blog-any one can write anything-doesn't have to make sense. Also, nice of him to say Tampa has the gators-I went to school at UF, I don't remember having any classes in Tampa. Oh, as a UF alumnus, my heart is where I grew up-GO CANES.

These past two games have been huge heartbreakers...
Maybe a little negativity will be reverse psychology-but I feel a 4 game sweep now- and I am sick, like all of us. My daughter couldn't sleep after last nights game-and she is an adult. Maybe there is a lawsuit here for unusual pain and suffering.

Moves tonight
i vote for waechter as the closer He's a long reliever. Maybe we dont need labels or designations-JUST PEOPLE WHO CAN DO THE JOB-Waechter is a "long reliever" so don't use him? Well, how about this label-Gregg is a closer-LOL. Benched-just venting-not at you.

Make room for the Fish ESPN article
I've felt for the last few months that the reason the attendance isn't "growing with every win" is the local media. Has anyone turned on 790 the Ticket, the "Official Home" for Florida Marlins baseball? From morning to night, whenever the Marlins are mentioned, they only talk about how the pitching is bad, they can't keep the hitting up, and they will fall back to earth and not win the division. They have been saying that since mid-April and basically stuck with it. Praise the Lord ! It drives me nuts there isn't one either knowledgable baseball first talent on the station or even someone who is a fan of the Marlins first. Zaslow literally had to learn the sport to be handed the post game show, his understanding of either the game or the players on the Marlins is so shallow as to be embarrassing. Sedano is a joke, Kevin Rogers and his sidekick worse, the worst, all three of whom pledge their undieing allegiance to New York teams. Even Dos Amigos who try to give the Fish a fair shake admit their hearts are elsewhere (NY). Josh Freidman (one of the biggest know-it-all, thin-skinned SOBS a**holes I've ever come across and that's the best I can think to say about him) is a Cubs fan first. Mish is another guy for whom the Marlins are a distant second in fan worship. I could go down the line but to what end? Frankly my hope is that the Marlins exit 790 after this year and having a season of ad sales practice under their belts goes the way of the Heat and go independent, preferably on a station that wants to build their programming around them. MLB is about to explode with MLB TV on cable and is building a radio network to provide 365 baseball talk and it would be perfect for the Fish. And as a by-product, watching either 560 or 790 go down the drain is just the cherry on top. For years I've railed here about the media, they have been and continue to this day to be one of the major obstacles for the Marlins in trying to win the hearts and minds of South Florida. When confronted their answer is always the same (just as their answer to the Preston Wilson thing was the same which was they collectively agreed to ignore it) "we are not paid to be cheerleaders...we are 'journalists' ". Funnily enough, I've actually heard the guys on 790 claim that they are NOT journalist, therefor don't need to adhere to journalistic integrity. I am biased towards Zas, personal friends with him and family, so I am not objective. I do enjoy listening to him, good energy and I have had lots of conversations with him and I feel he does know his stuff-but he is still young and learning. The others-totally agree with you. Wierd though, I could never stomach Sid, but now I listen and I can't figure out if his "like" for the marlins is real or he knows how to suck up to who he thinks he needs to. But at least you get baseball talk in the morning.

Make room for the Fish ESPN article
As everyone is saying...as long as only 8,000 people show up to see a team that's as exciting as this team and is in the race for the division title then attendance will always come up. People just cant get there head around why people don't show up. If the Indians were as exciting as the Marlins have been people in Cleveland would sell out the stadium in a blizzard with a temperature of -9 degrees and would still sell out the stadium to see there team in a game with rain and 95 degrees. I know, I know...theirs other issues too..and I cant say too much since I only get to go to Marlins road games being in Cleveland..but there is very little excuses as to why less then 30,000 cant be there on weekends. As far as cleveland, nope, cant agree. I am old enough to remember 800 people in an 80000 seat stadium. Also, only when the Jake opened did they get attendance for a good number of years and while they had consistent high payroll teams. But what has happened since, like Baltimore. Just a few years ago, 2005, I recall seeing that Clev. was in the wild card race until the last weekend, while the marlins were in it almost until then. Still all the talk was about marlin attendance. Well, the exciting young Indians of 2005 average attendance for that year was only about 1,000 more than the fish. (edit-actually 22,700 vs 24600 but point is the same) Nope, they were not selling out, they were the same as the Fish-just the media didn't focus on it.

Could Miguel Olivo be coming back?
With Olivo, thankfully there is a net behind the plate to protect the fans.

Why do they always have to make a comment about the "fan base"? :banghead Because it is an issue and until we start drawing the fans that other extremely competitive teams draw, it will continue to be an issue. Don't complain that writers mention the 800 lb. gorilla in the room. Attendance is an issue and, like I said, will continue to be mentioned as long as it is as such. The problem is that it's not an issue about the team. Why can't an article ever be about how good this team? About the way they play? Why is it that when something is written about the 25 guys who take the field everyday, the attendance needs to be mentioned, despite it having nothing to do with them? Agreed. Even the local story about the games always has a sentence, randomly placed, about the lack of support. Watching the Rays game last night, they were raving about the the three day attendance of 100,000, but while they will see a residual benefit against KC this weekend and because it is a weekend, but good for them. They are an excellent team with exciting players and I find myself rooting for them. Ah, but ask the question, should they win the division, the world series and then right after, jettison all their players and win 54 games next year-what would happen? Now that is not possible because they have a cheap young team at the moment-although they are in the penthouse compared to our payroll. Yea, we know all the reasons, we know the national coverage, when we get it, will always make it a point to comment on, but locally, we do not need to see it in every article about the team, the game, the players. One other point, when tampa gets 30,000, its a "great crowd", almost full-but us, like Saturday night we had almost 30,000 and while it looked good on the lower level, it still looked empty given the upper deck, the outfield upper deck etc.-the place was still 60% empty-and until we get out of Dolphin stadium, it will be that way.

Cost Over-runs On Stadium
All this overrun talk and in the paper today there is the story of the $342 million train deal for MIA and the rental car center that is already now $30 over the original budget.

New article 6-30-08
this could all be taken care of this guy is whacked.... i mean... GO MARLINS! :killthemall ....... :marlins Scary stuff guys, but I did do my share this weekend. Contacted one of his dealerships for auto info last week, and guess what-the salesmen were supposed to contact me via email-per the internet inquiry instructions-and within an hour, they started calling my office. Gave my secr. instructions to tell them, email or don't bother. Regardless, never went there, just couldn't justify it-went this weekend to Lauderdale Imports and got the car there. That felt real good. So Norman, up yours, you don't get mine hard earned cash. :brigginbounce

Hendrickson needs to be released
OK, the nats are a terrible offense-Who here believes that if Hendrickson really struggles tonite, then he should get no more starts. Come to think of it, he would probably get one more until Josh comes up.

Norman Braman Lawsuit Thread
I doubt she will demand the Marlins open their books, certainly MLB's lawyers will fight that strenuously, and frankly to what end. The Marlins don't own the stadium, they are leasing it, they aren't financing it, the only reason the plaintiffs want the information is because they know the defendants would be reluctant to make it public, it's being done to embarrass them and push them into a corner. It's very telling about a scumbag Braman is and the lengths he will go to get his way. This whole thing is after all about Braman's finances not the Marlins. I doubt they'll be forced to. I agree with you on this point. This is all just harassment that is a favorite tactic of lawyers and yes, Braman is what you say. However, this will not be short and sweet. The judge is an extremely competent, detailed oriented individual who will give both sides their full say. She did not succumb to pressure to make rash and hasty decisions in her last high profile case and this will, unfortunately for Marlin fans, IMO, be more lengthy than we want. Even if the stadium deal could be separated from it, somehow, Braman has something up his sleeve because he really does not want the stadium built. This whole case is a lawyers dream, full of details and projections etc etc, all that can be attacked from multiple angles. Just my thoughts.

Norman Braman Lawsuit Thread
Also, Judge Cohen said she was going to be busy until September and now she wants to hear the case immediately. This probably means that she feels the case will be short and sweet. Marlins attorneys are probably really confident about winning this case. I think we should be confident as well. GO MARLINS I wish, but not a chance.

Cost Over-runs On Stadium
According to the original BSA, the Marlins are on the hook for all cost overruns involving the stadium Isn't there a caveat?-"unless the overruns are caused by the city or county etc"-therein will lie the future lawsuits and if Loria will be able to find cause for any overrun.

Hendrickson needs to be released
Who do we replace him with? Thank god, the people on this board are not running the organization. When JJ is off the DL... Is Volstad off the DL yet? Yea throw JJ in there, guys hasnt pitcher a year + Im pulling for JJ but there is no doubt that guy gets ROCKED his first couple of starts.. Not to mention its hard to pitch a good game when your team doesnt hit a LICK! So it is the offense's fault that Hendrickson is not pitching well....? 5 walks (1 of them IBB), an ERA near 6, over 90 pitches in 5th inning...yeah the offense caused that... Hey, a double after that 5th walk Its not the complete fault of the offense of course.. But you can walk 20 hitters all that matters is the score... Yeah, which is now 5 - 0 and would have been 7 or 8 - 0 without Cody... He didn't even finish the 5th today, his ERA is now 5.93...I'd rather watch a rehabbing JJ pitch in this guy's rotation slot... I rest my case Do you even realize how rediculous that sounds? Did you watch the game... without Cody that game would have been a lot worse... Do you realize how late you are in responding? Most of Bob's responses are about 6 AM because that is when he takes time to go online and be unproductive-not like me at 2.30 pm at my desk. Good for him, not for me, but at least I can't fire myself-time to leave for golf.
