He basically looked clueless, flailing away at the first two pitches, especially the second one, out of the zone and swinging late also. I am trying to separate the Holocaust from this discussion. Obviously that was one of the worst actions in the history of humanity. However, the Israelis are not Americans. An attack on Iran by the US OR Israel would be a disaster for the Western world in a myriad of ways. Economically the price of oil would explode, and then possibly increase some more if the Iranians launch a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Politically, the people of Iran, who have been voting to decrease the power of Ahmedinejad's regime over the past year or two, would rally behind their crazy leader and keep him in power. Militarily, our nation doesn't have the manpower to have an occupation in Iraq, an air or ground war in Iran, and a failing nation building operation in Afghanistan, all at the same time. Iraq has been bad enough for the military without an even bigger problem to throw their way. Our men (and women) in uniform have sacrificed way too much for this nation, with many of them spending the majority of their time stuck in Iraq. They aren't even getting the right care at home, thanks to this uncaring group of draft-dodgers running the nation. You make the false assumption that an attack on Iran would be a unilateral action not justified by the knowledge that it would be stopping an imminent attack by Iran. While it may be useful to your point to eliminate the Holocaust from any discussion of the middle east, the formation of Israel was borne by the horrors of the Holocaust, thus, you need to understand that despite those horrors, a nation of morality and values was born, not one of vegeance and hatred and that nation was placed on land, not on any indiscriminate land, but on the original land of its people, thus it is epicenter to any discussion of the middle east. Put nuclear capabilities in the hands of a "crazy leader" and carry the hope that he would never do anything like that is frankly one of the scariest thoughts in the world. It is difficult for anyone who believes that all that is needed is a common ground for peace without understanding the driving force behind the Islamic belief. While many Muslims have denounced that this is what Islam stands for, the ones with the weapons are not the moderates. Israel stands alone as a free and democratic society in the Middle East. I have heard it too often, just like the Nazi's, that there would be no trouble in the world if not for Israel. Many say the same about the United States. It is a time tested method when there is a need to find blame to justify an unjustifiable cause. And the propoganda machine is strong and unrelenting, Goebbels would be very proud-his students have learned the lessons well. At the end of the war, Europe was freed. The Germans were defeated and none of the countries of Europe was obliterated from the map, although many were in terrible shape. In the case of Israel, there is no recovery from a one-time devastation. There is no second chance. To the haters of freedom, America is also an infidel and represents the same cause. I honestly don't see any way that there will ever be a successful Israeli-Palestinian peace process if the US is always seen to be fully behind Israel. Is this team really a legit championship team? Can a team that gives away outs as much as we do compete legitimately deep into the playoffs? I'm not sure if they can, to be honest, and I'm reluctant to give away a top prospect in that case. 100 games into the season and it is no longer a question. Flaws? Yes, but a contender in the NL East-well, more yes than no. Where are there guarantees for anything?

Cabrera is extremely likely to turn it around next season. Players struggling the first year when they change leagues isn't really anything new. After 3 strait seasons of a babip of .360 or higher, his is down to .308 this year....his walks are down, bb/k down, hr/fly down, LD% down...I really really doubt he'll continue to be like this. Cantu's been amazing for us but I don't really see the point in comparing the two. To say that Cabrera would be putting up the numbers he's putting up in DET, here, would be folly. Fact remains Cabrera's not here, Cantu's here, Cantu's producing for us offensively, and that's what matters. I am sure many of us have been comparing this, just as we do compare how D-Train has given Detroit zero and about the same when he was pitching. Just the nature of things. Other than a straight comparison is that Cabrera has supposedly the superior bats around him. No knock on our lineup, the power numbers prove that, but doubtful that anyone is pitching around Hermida and Jacobs (Hammer being out much of the season).

If our fan base is dependent on people who are at the line of choosing baseball over food-then what is left to say about the prospects of the team here. I was saying since we're in a pennant race with them, it would bring more people out. Hopefully we get a good crowd. I need to choose when to go, because Im not going to convince my dad to go to a game twice in less than 2 weeks. Threaten to leave home if he wont take you. Have a tantrum. Steal his car. I am in WPB now, and frankly the new stadium, even though farther away, will probably get me to more games. Esp. if there is some sort of public transportation in the works, which there is planned to be. Most people I know who live around here feel the same way. Less games for me. We will be stopping our full season package and have to go with some sort of partial plan. Week night games are out of the question. What Dade residents don't understand is that it isn't so much the time it takes us to GET to a game, it's the time it takes us to get home after a game also. For PBC residents that work, it's enough of a problem right now. The new pond makes it unbearable. And any type of public transportation just adds to the travel time. And of course once the attendance figures level out the Dade residents will once again be blaming us for them while pounding their own chests. And justly so-JK. Funny, I live a half mile south of the Dade-Broward line and that 5 blocks makes the difference in who I blame. On the serious note, Bob, isn't it more important to know when you would be getting home and that you will be able to know, within reason on most nights, when you will be getting home. This in contrast to wondering if the game starts on time, gets delayed etc. On balance you will be able to be home earlier, despite the longer drive, and even if you have to leave, you probably would see more of the game than those constantly delayed.

The people here do go to games. The problem is the rest of the people.
