Johan Santana out for the year
It was more enjoyable watching them suffer by losing to us, without the major list of injuries. This is their careers, you can never be happy about surgery for anyone. Every team has injuries, but this is riduculous. If it were us, we would have threads blaming the trainer.

Wagner on his way to the Sunshine State?
Did anyone hear Beinfest this morning on 790. I was in the car and I think this is what he said-or to some effect. "Regarding Smoltz, he chose to go another way and we move on but Wagner is a different story. " Anyone else confirm my ears? Seems like the fish are trying for Wagner. Mets may not care if it is within the division as Wagner will not be here anyways next year. As an aside, it seems we were a lot closer to getting Smoltz than was reported. I read the Atlanta paper a few days ago and Smoltz said it was very hard turning down Fredi Gonzalez.

Santana scratched
Never like to see a player get injured, but this does help the fish. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090824&content_id=6596662&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

Fredi Gonzalez won it for the Astros tonight
You can certainly second guess, but unless my eyes deceive me, since Boni has been relegated to the bench, he has come through a lot more often. Like the hit last week in extra that didnt work because Bo sends Hermida with no chance (even though he slid under the tag). Or the 3 hit afternoon the other day. Actually, watching Cecil Cooper manage lets you see what a real bad manager is. Last week, intentional walk to get to Hanley. Last night, burning his lefty reliever to come in and basically intentionally walk Hermida to get to the pitchers spot only to see a pinch hitter come in, obviously, and have to make another call to the pen. Can't hate on last night.

8/10 post game
Im sitting in section 149, and after The 2 run double Lindstrom gave up some guy behind me said "You F*ckin suck A$$" then a security guard came and took him out the game. WTF? Why would they do that? Because adult jerk balls should not be allowed in public.

Bandwagon fans?
Dolphins playoff games get blacked out, its not even a great football town, just mostly football town. Just a bad sports town in general. Could change once the younger generation gets older, considering they grew up with the teams as apposed to moving from somewhere up north. That doesn't happen anymore. Hell, it's only happened twice in the last 20 years. That's only because the TV and radio ad dollars make it a must-do for the local affiliate and/or the franchise, or both collectively to buy enough tickets to get to the magic "sell-out" number. We've all been to Dolphin, er Land Shark Stadium and wondered where those 20,000+ fans who in theory bought tickets represented by section after section of empty seats went to that day. For the Marlins playing in a stadium twice the size they need and the enormity of it makes even good crowds look half their size and the fact so many seats are there means no one except the diehards have to buy tickets in advance and can cancel their plans on a whim or a passing thunderstorm. The reason you see so many Phillies, Cubs, Mets etc fans is they have to buy, this is their only chance to see "their" team but Marlins fans can pick any one of eighty-one games when they want and when convenient to themselves and their families (which is a whole other problem, the stadium controlling the skyboxes and club seats and the Marlins prohibited from marketing to the 100 or so biggest firms in the region. Fenway suffered through crowds in the thousands until Prudential and John Hancock decided to make it their personal marketing tools. By the way, purely out of curiosity, has anyone become a fan of Land Shark beer since the renaming. I admit to never having one nor even thinking of ordering one when out. Using me as a focus group of one, it so far doesn't seem to of had the impact they were looking for. It was not so long ago that some of us remember wrigley averaging 12,000 for the season. Games at Comiskey and Cleveland's Muni Stadium drawing in the upper hundreds and up to 2,000 per game. Anyway, at the cub game on Sat. night, I noted that we had about 36,000 and that would be almost a sold out Fenway, but in our stadium, that leaves 40,000 empty seats for ESPN to comment about. Think of the visual, we have a game where it equals a sold out Fenway and then there are empty seats that equal more than an empty Fenway at the same time. I look forward to the new stadium knowing that even 20,000 people in an open concourse stadium will have an atmosphere and feel to it that will make playing at Landshark a bad memory. Other than that, we as Marlin fans just have to ignore the attendance comments and enjoy the chase on the field. If we can make the playoffs, then the other teams can get bumper stickers "our team has great attendance at Citifield elementary school".

Marlins not discussing long term deals with anyone
The only quotes in the column by Jackson attributed to Samson were "I don't know about long-term," "Even in a new ballpar, you cannot afford mistakes." "It's hard with pitchers"because of injury risks." "But you never say never."... http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/football/story/1141849-p2.html Even the punctuation is direct from the article. So the box where you show quote, is not a quote from Barry Jackson it is what the MLBtrader chose to mention. While we understand that the Fish may say bye to JJ, it is not a slam dunk but will always be the standard Samson line. So if I want to paraphrase, I could say that Samson says to never say never about signing Johnson which could indicate he may.

We got Ayala!
my recollection of him with the nats is I was always glad to see him come in to face us. Oh, well, at least he has friends on the team. As a set up guy, at least until Matt comes back, concerns me.

MLB blog: Nats-Marlins, rain, attendance 10K? Right
If this was reported on Olberman's show or Maddow, very few people would have heard it. So much for MSNBC.

Marlins Community Sales Force
Can't see why this is an issue, even if it is to "satisfy" a political purpose. No one is being bribed and if someone sells tickets they get compensated. Hey, anyone of us who convinces someone to buy a season ticket should get a commission.

Leo Nunez
I would think DL is the right thing for nunez. Although not severe, the problem with the ankle is that he very well would make unconsious adjustments which many times causes a pitcher to slightly alter the delivery and cause and arm injury. Just be safe here.

Brett Carroll
I still love people who want Carroll over Hermida. It feels good to be loved. It is worth repeating, Carroll saves more runs with his defense than Hermida provides with his streaky hitting. No way Hermy makes the catch Brett made and Hermy doesn't even sniff throwing out Wigginton. The game is lost if Hermy was out there.

Sox series
Hey hey Marlins' nation...just wondering if anyone on the board was going to be up in the fenway area for the Sox series? it will just be me and my buddy for the game, sitting in section 25, on the 3rd base line...look for me...and have no fears...you will hear me!!! flying up wed for wed and thurs games, will be in sec 26 both nights. One night we have one seat in three different rows-same seat #. Never been to Boston-typical tourist, taking the Duck tour.

Florida Marlins vs. Boston Red Sox
Looking forward to it-official road trip for me and my daughter. Flying out Wed morning, have tix for Wed night and thurs night-first time to see Fenway. Let's stay hot.

Brett Carroll
I love how you guys want to dump Hermida. Second highest OBP on the team. We need him. Maybe he isn't going to develop into a longterm option as his prospect status and 2007 season hinted at, but he's the best we got right now. He's not going to not-slug forever either. When bringing up Hermida's stats I love how you left out he has the 2nd lowest SLG and the 2nd lowest OPS on the team. We need to add as a fielder, what he costs us. The play sunday was not unusual, slow to the ball, rarely making the tough catch. I am willing to give Carroll the chance to hit on a regular basis to see what he can do, especially because I consider his defense worth more in terms of runs saved than the irregular clutch hit by Hermida.

Braves Wanted Cody.
Cody is ours and only ours. Now and forever. Off with their heads if they trade Cody and that big smile.

Daniel Cabrera
The MLB Network guys were talking about him. They would jump on getting him but you would have to start from scratch with him. He is 6' 10" and he starts from a crouch, which causes him to come in from a bad angle, messes up his arm angle and removes his imposing figure on the mound. Their words, not mine. They say a good coach would straighten him out, let him stand up on the mound and throw. Right now he is trying to aim the ball from his crouch. It all sounded good, if he is coachable.

THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR! ENOUGH OF BONIFACIO!
Ha, another thread, no problem. If bored with a topic, don't respond. Nothing kills a thread better than only 1 reply. Yet, the anguish we get watching Boni keeps it alive, and with just cause. There is always something new because last night my daughter comments that even if he is not on base (which is most of the time) he finds a way to get someone picked off. Add these mental errors he is making and it is cause for continued commentary.

5/27 - Marlins at Phillies - 7:05 PM
Well, again, lets all say "at least he didnt strike out"

Well at least he didn't strike out. That is something Fredi would say

Forget about Bonifacio folks
I would have gone with Gaby over Boni out of ST so once Gaby is healthy I would give him a shot. I don't know what is meant by a "professional at bat" but I know just about every "professional at batter" is a veteran media friendly white guy who can't hit. Helms had a great game but one game doesn't undo the damage he has done the past 2+ years. I don't think he's good. How about the term "a good piece of hitting".
-
Forget about Bonifacio folks
Whether Boni is the problem or not-basically, last night here is what you got with Helms there: 1. As good as if not better defense. 2. Professional at bats, clutch hits, power, RBI's 3. A more solid lineup top to bottom. Sorry, no hate here, I just feel so much more comfortable with Wes batting in the lineup and watching Chris have quality at bats at the top. To me, that at bat the other day when he fouled off pitch after pitch was almost like the turning point for him, and the three foul ball bunt attempts by Boni was the opposite-just unacceptable.

What major changes does this team need?
Tons of HGH, steriods, and what ever masks that stuff from drug tests. The steroids do not help IF YOU CAN'T MAKE CONTACT. We make every stinkin mediocre pitcher look like Nolan Ryan with all the strikeouts. Pitchers who average 4 K's a game get 10-12 against us. Drives me crazy. Like the 9th last night-just keep swinging at sliders in the dirt-yea, Chad Qualls is the new Trevor Hoffman, he is THAT good.
-
Roster moves are likey to happen today
Pinto please. I know it'll never happen, but one can always hope right? Amen to that!! Please send Pinto away until he can find the strike zone. It's when he finds the strike zone he has problems. Last night, after he almost hit the first batter, like the prior night, it looked like he was aiming the ball rather than throwing. So he aimed some fat ones. Every contact was hard, lucky for us, a few were right at somebody. He only gets people when they help him out and swing at the pitches out of the zone.

we want 1-1 on wed
I have stopped analyzing what is happening. We are at home against the last place team in the west and yet the best we can hope for is a split of the series, which is bad, and possibly a horrible 1-3. They could not hit, until now. We can't hold leads, and the situational hitting, being a clutch hit, a sac fly, etc. is as bad as ever. Maybe we just are not any good-I think it is sinking in to my thick skull. Just a matter of time for the mets and phils to start winning at a better clip and we will fall way out of the race by mid june. I don't know if this was a dream, but I think I woke up with my radio on in the 11th inning and we had the bags loaded with one out and Cody hits into a double play-did that really happen? And this is what I read from Fredi on MLB.com:We had a lead, a three-run lead, and it got away, and we had so many opportunities," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Just a sac fly or something. It didn't happen. They're a Major League team over there, and they made plays. I'm just proud of the way we kept coming back. We battled and battled. "I'm going to call this one: We didn't lose the game. We just ran out of outs. I'm real proud of the way we came back." I am not a "fire Fredi" guy, but I don't want to read this garbage. We led 4-0 and 7-4-what does he mean "...WE kept coming back." They kept coming back-we had not coming back to do-just leads to blow. "we didn't lose the game. We just ran out of outs." I think I have to puke.
