i know he's got serious control issues but why not sign him to aa minor league contract and give him a shot???

No the man has no control. Plus why would he pitch in the minors for us when he rejected the nats minor league assignment.

As I've said several times before:

If you can't make it on the Nationals...

Because he sucks?

The MLB Network guys were talking about him. They would jump on getting him but you would have to start from scratch with him. He is 6' 10" and he starts from a crouch, which causes him to come in from a bad angle, messes up his arm angle and removes his imposing figure on the mound. Their words, not mine. They say a good coach would straighten him out, let him stand up on the mound and throw. Right now he is trying to aim the ball from his crouch.

It all sounded good, if he is coachable.

Wiley was his pitching coach when he first came into the league.

Ruh roh, this may be more than just message board banter:

The Marlins have interest in free agent RHP Daniel Cabrera, reports Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Berardino cites a National League source as saying the club may have interest in the 27-year-old pitcher who was released by the Nationals on Tuesday. Cabrera was awful in nine appearances this season, eight of them starts, compiling a 16/35 K/BB ratio in 40 innings.

he sucks but i rather have him keep nolasco's or anibal's spot warm until they return rather than the bums from AAA (excluding west)

Trust me you dont want this guy no where near the pitching mound. HES A DISASTER.

He had one DECENT year. It was last year for the Orioles and only because he was in a contract year.

If Lidstrom makes you want to throw up this guy will make you want to commit suicide.

Why are as interested? The man stinks, unless he wants to pitch in triple a I don't want him.

i started this thread but now that i think about it mediocre wild pitching is NOT what we need right now! from what ive noticed this year we need clutch pitching from guys with above average control! now this isnt an easy task to ask of someone but now that i think about it we could try someone with better makeup and numbers!

I think the Marlins should take a chance on Cabrera if they view him as a short reliever. No one can question whether or not he has good stuff but it seems that he loses concentration the second and third time through the order. Maybe Cabrera could develop into a decent reliever because the same things that are said about him were said about Eric Gagne, LaTroy Hawkins and Jose Mesa.

Wait... a head-case pitcher with no control and a propensity to give up the big hit? He'd never fit in on the Marlins.

Mopup and thats about it. The rotation is starting to click. Don't mess with it.

I'd rather have Ross Gload in the rotation than Daniel Cabrera.

Sure, why not? It's not as if we'd be plugging him into our rotation right away. Obviously, he'd be signing a minor league deal and pitching in AAA for the time being. He could be a steal if they can get his mechanics worked out. I say take the chance, it's a no risk, high reward move.

If Badenhop is going to get stretched out and used exclusively as a starter for the forseeable future then perhaps Cabrera, under Wiley's eye, can get it *together* enough to pitch long relief and give the team three or four innings a week without imploding.

Working against him is they did everything in their power in Baltimore to get this guy on track and couldn't, and I have to kinda agree if he can't make it in DC it may be a lost cause, but maybe (doubtful) Wiley can get something out of him. I'd sign him extended spring training camp (or whatever it's called at this time of the season) and let him work out with the Marlins and Wiley at home and in Jupiter when they're on the road. Can't do this for any extended period but i think a team can sign someone in his position and have X days to actually put him on a roster somewhere.

:no :nono :no

I had a dream last night that the Marlins traded, Rinyel Pinto and Burke Badenhop to the Reds for Micah Owings and another player.

I would only like this to get rid of Renyel Pinto and to have an extra bat off the bench (Owings). I still like The Hopper though, and I wouldn't want to lose him.

This team has a distinct lack of pitching depth. Wiley was his first coach. Pitchers sometime put it all together and get the job done.

I wouldn't mind him in a hayden penn situation.... working out of the pen until he gets his stuff together. It might be win win for him at this point. work out of the pen, get everything together with his 1st coach and become consistantly successful, then wait for the fish to deal him.

Look at it as paid training on the job.

He has already worked with Wiley. Worked with Mazzone. Worked with others. He was always awful and continues to be awful. No thanks.

for 400K why not?
