  1. I think Jeremy may be faster than Fredo, I'm not sure, but I think Fredo is quicker and is a better baserunner. My lineup: Jeremy Hanley Miguel Hammer Jacobs Uggla Olivo Fredo
  2. He has 38 Ks in 34 innings he has just nasty stuff I'm not ready to induct him in the HoF just yet. He doesn't have nasty stuff. He has good stuff with inconsistent command. Last night he wiggled out of trouble a couple of times and the Cards certainly helped him out with boneheaded baserunning. Reading this thread and listening to the announcers one would think this guy has dominated so far this season. His stats indicate otherwise. I don't think his stats lie.
  3. Mitre would beat him to a pulp. Olsen is such an a**hole and is mediocre at best... probably a notch below mediocre. I have no idea why most fans love the guy. From the PBP: The suspension stems from an incident in the tunnel behind the Marlins dugout at Dolphin Stadium after Olsen came out of Sunday's game, sources said. Olsen, the sources said, exchanged words with Mitre, another starter, who had approached the left-hander to console him after a rocky outing. The pitchers scuffled, a source said. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte.../0717OLSEN.html
  4. Rabbethan....Clearly you don't get it....I'm pretty sure Dolphins fans have booed their team.... They sure have. I doubt very many pro athletes have received more hate than Sammie Smith and that very many amateur athletes received more hate than Brock Berlin. South Florida is at the head of the class in anger and hate.
  5. lmao wow they traded navarro to tampa, that's how high LA was on Martin, and with good reason. Compare the two's numbers. No way he gets dealt. first of all the dodgers want a starter, so why would they trade a guy who could very well turn out to be better than willis (billingsley) for another starter. hell i agree with the guy who responded to the post in the link, i think chad is nearly better than willis now.... look at the numbers and billingsley has some nasty stuff from watching him last night if the dodgers make a move it will be for a power hitter to put them over top of the padres. That would be a retarded trade for the Dodgers. They already have the hitting they need the problem is every day either Ethier, Kemp or Gonzalez sits on the bench because for whatever reason they continue playing JP. It's unreal.
  6. Six more unearned runs tonight... so far. I don't know what the modern era record of unearned runs allowed by a team is but I think we'll challenge it because with Fredi blowing-off the errors I don't see any improvements coming.
  7. This is from the Sun-Sentinel: General Manager Admin Beinfest's credo is winning with pitching and defense. The latter component has left something to be desired. The Marlins have a National League-low .978 fielding percentage and have committed five more errors (73) than the second-worst club (Dodgers). Manager Fredi Gonzalez has pointed out that last season's error total was similar, but the Marlins are on pace to commit a franchise record 133 errors and allow 10 more unearned runs than any other Marlins club. Comments like that really bother me. I don't see what good can come from them. Last year the team defense was horrible in the first half and improved in the 2nd half but this year we've regressed to the point where we're worse than the '06 first half level. That's not a good thing. I don't know where to get the '06 errors by half but looking at unearned runs these are the numbers: '06 1st half - 45 UR in 86 games (NL average: 36) - 25% over the average '06 2nd half - 31 UR in 76 games (NL average: 28) - 11% over the average '07 1st half - 54 UR in 89 games (NL average: 31) - 74% over the average That's not a good trend. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...,0,706373.story
  8. I'm sure I'll have plenty of down time to post I think Paris is such an incredibly beautiful city, incomparable to any other, that if I were you I would spend any down time just walking the streets absorbing its beauty rather than posting on this site. However many days you spent in Paris wont be enough. Trust me on that.

  11. I don't know how people can say that Miguel Olivo has had a worse season than our combined centerfielders. We get average production from CF, both offensively and deffensively. We get well below average production from C, both offensively and deffensively. MLB average OPS among catchers - .702 Olivo's OPS - .658 MLB average OPS among CFs - .749 Our CFs' OPS - .650 Olivo is .044 OPS points below the C average Our CFs are .099 OPS points below the CF average Why do you think we get average offensive production from our CFs but well below average from Olivo? It appears you're not using OPS. What are you using?
  12. I wasn't blaming it on bad luck Sorry. I misunderstood what you wrote.
  13. How do you explain his (Hermida) high numbers here and his low "standard numbers" aside from just luck? Their results belie what my eyes tell to such an extreme that I don't trust their data. Some guy named Kubel is ranked 2nd and Miguel is 97th. Crap. I don't see where you are getting their ratings from. I do know that they aren't measuring anything but a player's ability to put the ball in play and how hard they hit the ball when they do. It has nothing to do with anything but that, it's not saying one is a better player. Obviously a guy who is on pace to strike out like 150 times isn't going to do too well in a ratings system based on putting the ball in play. http://inside-edge.com/rankings/07/hitters/wellhit.htm
  14. Retarded. Isn't he great folks? Let's give him a hand! Bob, I think Lowell's poor season and a half with the Marlins was due to him tinkering with his swing. I think he mentioned that as well. I don't doubt that that was his excuse for it, but I distinctly remember him having a lot of really well hit balls that just wouldn't fall for hits, and then he couldn't get the bloops to fall for hits either. It was a tough year, but I highly doubt there is any tangible reason for why he was an All Star one year, the worst regular major leaguer in the league and then an all star. It doesn't make sense. It makes plenty of sense... if you think about it Every one of his homerun swings just happen to land a foot or two in front of the warning track that year. If you think about it it may make to sense to you but to me to blame Lowell's '05 struggles on bad luck is ridiculous.

  16. According to these geniuses Miguel is the 97th best hitter based on their definition of hard-hit balls. That's ridiculous. http://inside-edge.com/rankings/07/hitters/wellhit.htm True, but on the bright side this stat has Hermida ranked ahead of Miguel. Hermida is #62. This combined with BABIP. Wow. Might have to rethink what my eyes are telling me. Stats don't lie. You also have to take into account Hermida's much smaller sample size, which is easier to have discrepencies. Though this does prove that Hermida's just had some pretty awful luck. He's hitting the ball well. I think Miguel is hitting around .330 and if Hermida is better than Miguel maybe if Hermida had "average" luck he would hit .350 or something around there and with a bit of good luck maybe Hermida could hit .400. I guess the HoF talk from the other day wasn't premature. It's all about luck.

  18. If you say the things Niner did in 2003 aren't heroic you wouldn't know heroic if it hit you in the face. But w/e, no use in trying to fight ignorance. In '03 Conine had great moments but if you make a list of the top 10 heroes of the '03 season Conine may not even make the top 10 and in the '97 season he played "well" enough to lose his job. To put him in the same breath with Marino and Wade or Cabrera as the local heroes is laughable. No Conine is def top 10 for that season. He may have not done too well in 1997 but you need to realize what he did for the franchise between 1993 and 1997. He's still at or near #1 in many of the club's offensive statistics and was the first face of the franchise. Cabrera will likely pass him soon. But Conine was the first of his kind when it comes to the franchise. I never said he's Top 4 all-time in the area, but he's def. top 10. Pudge, DLee, Louie, Alex, Lowell, Cabrera, Pierre, Beckett, Dontrelle and Penny are not even debatable. What does he may not have done too well in 1997 mean? Is that a sugarcoated way of saying he played like crap? I guess don't speak sugarcoating. Looking at his first stint with the Marlins he was a good player but wasn't the best player on the team and his second stint he was just another guy on the team.

  20. True, I know a lot of people that havent left the US. I also know people who havent left a 200 mile radius of their house. No one is going to tell you to go anywhere, its your vacation and are allowed to do what you want. However, there is so much more to the world than just the US and I think you may be missing out. I have my next few trips line up (no fixed dates yet) 1. Mexico City 2. London 3. Russia (moscow and st. petersburg) 4. Vancouver 5. Peru That's a solid list. Peru is incredible and Mexico City is interesting to say the least. I'd recommend Guatemala though instead of Mexico City if you're looking to visit Central America, it's one of my favorite countries in the world. I'm hoping to get to Russia this fall if I can scrape together the money, I have a few friends who live in St. Petersburg to show me around. I've been to Guatemala several times and absolutely love it. It's hands down the best place to travel to in Central America and better than most of South America too. Mexico City and it's surrounding areas are also pretty special. I've been to Peru a couple of times but never Cusco or Machu Pichu which I guess it's where you want to go. I will have 30,000 miles on american airlines, so I decided to use them on Peru. I want to go to Lima, Cusco and Iquitos (to see the amazon). I don't know if you're into movies but there's a couple of really good ones filmed in Iquitos and the Amazon that may interest you: Fitzcarraldo http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083946/ Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068182/

  22. I would rather get pitching help but Dye would be a much better pick-up than Jones so if the Marlins were after Jones I have no idea why anyone would question the Marlins going after Dye.
  23. I hope he stays on the roster even if he doesn't play so he keeps his all-star streak going. I think it would nice if 10 years from now he's an all-star for the 14th time in a row.
  24. Here are some scouts' views on Olsen and Hermida: The scouts (who requested anonymity) say Scott Olsen never will be a No. 1 or No. 2 starter. ''He's not a leader by any stretch of the imagination,'' one said. ``The mentality he brings is not a No. 1 to No. 3 starter. He's had this mentality since he was young, and he's not going to change. He doesn't have good enough control of his fastball consistently. All of a sudden, he can't throw a strike for an inning. He loses focus, then regroups and it's too late. What the heck is that about?'' Doubts persist about Hermida. Said one scout: ''He doesn't handle the ball in or balls down and away. He's supposed to handle the ball up and over the plate really well, and he isn't [consistently]. He has a reputation for being injury-prone.'' (One positive despite his low average: his eight homers in 168 at-bats, compared with five in 307 last season.) There's more in the full article: http://www.miamiherald.com/588/story/163823.html
