Options for the pen.
I'd give Resop a shot...and maybe Tank. If we are going to lose...I'd rather lose with the youngs guys.

To those of you who are frustrated.....
I don't buy that these players are any more prone to mistakes than of teams of the past. I agree...baseball is baseball - whether it's played in the Majors, AA or Little League. I get frustrated when I see stupid errors, poor baserunning and other foolish plays. I can live with the strikeouts and walks...it's the mental mistakes which I find unacceptable. Girardi and staff need to instill the fundamentals in these guys. :confused

Martinez May Miss Season...
That's kind of sad they didn't notice. Didn't Admin say something about him shaking his arm after every pitch in the game thread A shame this happened though. He had some great stuff, but that could have been the problem. Just put too much stress on his arm. Not sure you can fault our coaching staff here...if his velocity remained the same and his pitches had their normal movement and Martinez did not indicate any discomfort...what else could they have done?

House-hunting for Marlins on hold, for now
so many teams thou in southern california market is saturated Chargers, Raiders, 49 ers, .. ????????? Chargers are in So. Cal, however Raiders/49ers are in Northern Cal. When you say "so many teams" are you referring to MLB/NBA/NFL/NHL? Hmmm...don't they play a decent brand of college football in SoCal? Hey, they're not the Longhorns but the support for the two local teams isn't bad. :mischief2

Martinez May Miss Season...
Martinez may miss season Rookie's elbow has ligament damage By Juan C. Rodriguez South Florida Sun-Sentinel Posted April 19 2006 What reliever Carlos Martinez thought would be nothing serious has turned into a possible season-ending injury. According to a club official, Martinez's MRI Tuesday revealed significant damage to a ligament in his right elbow. Whether or not Martinez will require Tommy John surgery is uncertain, but Martinez's rookie season appears to be over after 62/3 innings. Whether Martinez will undergo surgery depends on orthopedic surgeon James Andrews, who will perform his own exam today in his Birmingham, Ala., office. After Sunday's game against the Nationals, Martinez said he experienced some discomfort after a delivery in which his lead foot slipped on the mound. Martinez still managed to complete his second inning of work. He did not accompany the team to Cincinnati in order to undergo the MRI in South Florida. Monday, manager Joe Girardi said neither he nor anyone else watching from the dugout noticed anything that would indicate Martinez injured himself. His velocity remained in the mid-90s and his breaking pitches looked the same. Martinez, who turns 24 next month, made the jump from the Class A Florida State League to the big leagues after a stellar spring. The Marlins already were using him in meaningful, late-inning situations.

Complete way out of left field idea...
We have a very deep farm system, with many players that fit the mold of what GM Billy Beane looks for, let's call them "toolsy" players. On top of that, they dont like spending $$ anymore than our franchise(although, have seemed to kind of let lose with the cash more as of late), and they acquired Milton Bradley as well. Billy Beane does not want toolsy players. Billy Beane hates Reggie Abercrombie. in fact, BB has a hit out on Abercrombie lol Do you think he'd take Jai Miller???

MARLIN MINOR LEAGUE STATS
For the record. Fulton is not a shortstop. I don't think he has played there in two years. He converted from SS to third base when he joined the Hoppers. Even if the roster page says it on the Gboro web site, it is wrong. Septimo has played all the games at short and Fulton has had all his starts from 3B. Septimo looks to be playing well...might be a nice Rule V pickup for us. :thumbup

2007 Baseball Draft

moehler could be out of the rotation very soon
I feel bad for him. everybody is gangin up against him instead of encouraging him to get back to last seasons form. Well he is a nice guy but when you pay someone millions to allow 1184 hits in 1,024.1 career IP then people start to wonder if he is Major league material. His career K's per 9 IP is only 4.96. Not good at all for a guy this hitable. so by that standard he was paid really low last season so we should have written him a big check for being the second best pitcher for most of the year players will have their ups and downs and they need fan support during both Second best pitcher for most of the year??? What exactly are you smoking? I seem to recall Willis, Beckett and Burnett on last year's pitching staff. Give me a freak'n break. :banghead

Leyland back to his old ways
Remember when Leyland was w/ the fish and he would just rant and rave at the media after almost every game? Well it seems like hes back to his old tricks. A video clip of his post game comments will be on sports center tonight and tomorrow morning. Try to catch it. I just heard it and it was awesome. He's basically ripping his whole team and saying how much they stunk. I love this guy. Everyday its another saga with him. I hope the detriot media gets used to it. Oh yeah, and he's a pretty freeking good manager too. Link?

Topes pull one out...
I hope Andino is getting enough time at 2B. I'd like to see him and Shadez form a double play combo. Looks like Seabol is playing second and Andino is at short. :confused

Gaby Sanchez
He already hit #7 in the first inning today. Game going on now with Chris Volstad pitching. Hoppers up 2-0 after 1 The Hoppers ended up winning 6-3. Volstad went 7.1 for the win. He gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. Stud struck and five and did not walk a batter. :notworthy

Stokes is heating up...
Good news from Alburquerque as Jason "Light Tower" Stokes went 4-5 last night. He had a homer, a double and three RBI's. LT's average is now up to a respectable .263. Unfortunately the pitching wasn't there last night as Petit had a poor outing - 5.1 inning, 6 runs, 3 BB's, 3K's and 3 HR's allowed. Resop seems to be taking his demotion well - he pitched two scoreless innings with a K. Topes were unable to sweep the four game series as they lost a sluggfest to New Orleans, 11-8.

Record temps in Texas...
Yeah...but it's a dry heat. :shifty Record heat leads to power outages in Texas Conservation urged to avoid more rolling blackouts Houston and other Texas cities baked in record high temperatures Monday. --Faced with the prospect of another day of record heat, the state's power suppliers urged Texans to cut down on their electricity use in the hope of avoiding more rolling blackouts. Power companies throughout the state imposed the blackouts Monday because of an electricity shortage during unseasonably hot weather. Thousands of people were caught without electricity for short periods of time as highs reached into the low 100s, and police rushed to direct traffic during the afternoon rush hour. Highs were expected to reach into the upper 90s on Tuesday before returning to a more normal range in the 70s and 80s on Wednesday. "We are asking everybody to pitch in and do the best they can by minimizing electric consumption between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., the peak hours," said Paul Wattles, spokesman for Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which runs the state's electricity grid. As much as 15 percent of the state's power supply was already off line for seasonal maintenance to brace for the summer's energy usage peaks, but four power generating plants also shut down unexpectedly, Wattles said. Officials were pushing to get power flowing again from the generators that had been idled. ERCOT said operations were back to normal by Monday evening. The typical usage for Texas in April is about 40,000 megawatts a day, but the state pushed 52,000 megawatts on Monday, Wattles said. The rollouts were limited to the ERCOT grid, which provides electricity to about 80 percent of the state. A recorded high of 101? at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport broke the previous high of 94?, set in 1913 and matched in 1925, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures reached 107? in Laredo.

HYDE: It's OK to use public money to keep Marlins
Interesting article... My favorite portion: So up to $30 million of public dollars could be spent to keep the Baltimore Orioles playing at Fort Lauderdale Stadium for six weeks a year? "That's right,'' Gandy said. What about $30 million going to keep the Marlins in South Florida forever? "No, we're not working on anything like that,'' he said. Wow...

2007 Baseball Draft
Yeah, I don't know why we're talking about the 2007 draft already though, considering the fact that we haven't made it to the 2006 one yet. The list I posted above is for THIS draft. Not 2007. It's WAY too early for that, to say the least... Not really...I think 2007 is pertinent due to the fact that we will have an extremely high pick - I am assume top three if not #1. Therefore if there is a "can't miss" superstar on the horizon it would be nice to know about him. Kind of like a LeBron James or Sidney Crosby watch. :thumbup
