Well, I really hope we don't draft any more pitchers. I was wondering what kinds of hitters we'll be seeing in the draft, considering it's likely we'll have a top 3 pick, if not the top over all pick, in addition to the draft picks we have from compensation.

The way I see it we could use a can't miss guy at 1B, 2B, 3B if we deal Cabrera, CF, CA and you never pass up on great pitchers....so best player available.

We need to get a catcher big time, methinks. Although that one cat in Single A seems to be doing ok.

I'd say get a good outfielder, we are going to need a center fielder so it seems, because unless we can get a trade done, none of the guys in our system seem to be cut out for the job.

Hopefully one close to the stadium so he can drive there and start immediately. He'd automatically be better than any of the guys we have out there.

Unfortunetly college outfielders have had the poorest success rate of becoming major leaguers, let alone quality ones, among position players.

If we can get Drew Stubbs out of Texas we will have our CF of the future but I doubt he falls to where were picking.

A guy that could be there when we pick is Colin Curtis, a CF from Arizona State. Would love to snatch him up. High OBP guy with great defense and good speed. Not the highest ceiling, but exactly what we need for the leadoff spot and CF.

BTW, can someone with a BA subscription tell me the top 3-5 players for 2007 draft ? I've heard some names like Michael Main and Robert Stock, but not much else.

Expect us to get the best player available. Beinfest isn't much for drafting for a particular position given the uncertainty with any draftee making the bigs.

Yeah, I don't know why we're talking about the 2007 draft already though, considering the fact that we haven't made it to the 2006 one yet.

The list I posted above is for THIS draft. Not 2007. It's WAY too early for that, to say the least...

cant argue with that

Let's draft Shane Robinson. Centerfielder for the Seminoles and was National Player of the Year in NCAA baseball as a sophmore, he's a junior now.

Sounds good to me.

The kid can hit, he's the prototypical leadoff-man. He gets on base, and steals bases. He'll certainly be in the running for this year's player of the year awards for college.

Not really...I think 2007 is pertinent due to the fact that we will have an extremely high pick - I am assume top three if not #1. Therefore if there is a "can't miss" superstar on the horizon it would be nice to know about him. Kind of like a LeBron James or Sidney Crosby watch.

:thumbup

UM's John Jay could be available in June '06 - has speed, OBP, plus some power.

We need to get a catcher big time, methinks. Although that one cat in Single A seems to be doing ok.

if you mean gaby sanchez, he's playing 1B. He's from UM and was never really a catcher there either. He played mostly 3B, 1B and DH until he was kicked off the team and out of school.

but yeah, he is hitting 400 with 7 or 8 HR's already. I'd love to see him get a call up in sept. and get his crack at our 1B gig next year, or even 3B if Miggie is traded
