Parking Prices for next season?
15 is still reasonable for how closer you are to the stadium and how much less hassle it will be. I have been to both Cleveland and Boston for many games. In Cleveland you have to park down in the "flats" usually which is not the nicest area and it leaves you with a 10 plus minute cab ride. You end up spending about 20-25 for the two way trip. In Boston you have to park at a station, so that runs you about 5 dollars and along with teh trolley ride each way you will spend another 6. Only 11 dollars, but the time it takes will be well over an hour and jsut a very uncomfortable ride. I'd gladly pay $20 bucks to park at a stadium like Fenway or the Jake! Not for the dump known as Dolphin Stadium where there is little to no demand!

Do they have steroids in Milwaukee? Maybe they should sign Mota's juice buddy Gagne.

Loria needs to open the checkbook for Leo. I'm assuming he and Freddi have a solid relationship based on their time spent in ATL together.

The Marlins have filled six of their seven allotted Arizona Fall League slots. The players headed west for the five-week, six-team circuit that runs from Oct. 9 through the Nov. 17 championship game: catcher Brett Hayes, outfielder Jai Miller, infielder Chris Coghlan, and pitchers Scott Nestor, Craig Molldrem and Ross Wolf. The Marlins' contingent will play for the Peoria Saguaros. Triple-A Albuquerque pitching coach Rich Gale will serve in the same capacity with the Saguaros.

Tuesday Roundup: Aaron Thompson lights out
Wow, this is a first. I agree with Spike over Ramp! :lol I have given up on trying/listening/understanding Marlins1 a long time ago. You simply can't argue with someone like that. He is a minor league Spike. What? You mean he doesn't think Willingham can play either?

Top pick Dominguez signs for 1.8 million
Marlins first-round pick Matt Dominguez still wants to turn pro, but with Wednesday's 11:59 p.m. deadline looming, the California prep third baseman remained in baseball limbo. "I'm pretty sure I want to sign," Dominguez, who signed to play at Cal State Fullerton, said Monday night. "But you have agents telling you some stuff and you want to listen to them." Dominguez said the Marlins have offered him close to the management-recommended slot figure of $1.62 million, but his camp took notice this week when the Braves gave prep outfielder Jason Heyward $1.7 million. Heyward went 14th overall, two picks behind Dominguez. "We're thinking a lot of other guys are going to sign for over slot," Dominguez said. "We've waited this long. Might as well wait a little longer." While Dominguez waits, the Marlins have agreed to terms with second-rounder Mike Stanton, a high school outfielder from Sherman Oaks, Calif. A Southern California recruit as a wide receiver/linebacker, Stanton will receive a $475,000 bonus spread over four years because of his multisport status. Third-rounder Jameson Smith, a catcher from Fresno (Calif.) Community College, signed for $310,000. If the Marlins fail to sign Dominguez by Wednesday's deadline, they would receive a compensation pick as high as 13th overall next June. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...0,4521284.story Good news we signed the 2nd and 3rd rounders it seems which is great to see Bad news is we are cheap, what else is new? Cheap or just sound business sense? Why should the Marlins play over slot??? :mis2

Any weather update? We really need a new f***** stadium with a retractable roof.- Club Level Question
Any suggestions on how to sneak into the Club level at DS? :hat- The Bronx is Burning
Has anyone been watching on ESPN. I've been pleasantly surprised...very well done. Just too many commercials. :mischief2- Marlins scouting Jose Contreras
Why would the Marlins acquire him if he makes $20 million over the next two seasons and isn't that good? It would help in bringing out the Cuban fan base...kind of like Ichiro and the Japanese fans in Seattle. :lol- Marlins sign a top Venezuelan shortstop
Florida Marlins sign a top Venezuelan shortstop July 15, 2007 MIAMI GARDENS The Marlins made a significant acquisition on the international front, plucking away one of Venezuela's top two amateur shortstops. Maracay product Jose Miguel Torres, 16, agreed to terms with the Marlins on July 2, the first day major league teams were able to sign non-draft eligible international players. "We got who we feel is the best shortstop in this year's crop and the consensus among baseball scouts is he's one of the top two [in Venezuela]," said Albert Gonzalez, the Marlins director of international operations. "This kid can play. He's a switch hitter. In my report I wrote he would probably win a Gold Glove one year. He's that type of defender already." Gonzalez compared the 6-foot, 160-pound Torres, to a young Alex Gonzalez. The gloves and foot speed are comparable at the same age, but Gonzalez projects Torres will hit more doubles and for a higher average. "He's more of what I call a skilled player versus a guy that's just full of tools," Gonzalez said. "He has tools, but he's also well-advanced in terms of game awareness." Gonzalez pointed to a couple of pluses in the Marlins standing out among a crowded field of suitors. Area scout Wilmer Castillo lives close to Torres and followed him the last two years. Venezuelan scouting supervisor Carlos Acosta also did invaluable work. "The other factor is Miguel Cabrera," Gonzalez said, of the superstar who also hails from Maracay. "[Torres] is a confident kid and feels like he's going to play next to Miguel Cabrera someday." Some teams projected Torres as an offensive second baseman. That would suit the Marlins just as well considering his defensive aptitude. The plan is for Torres to work out of the Marlins' Dominican academy this summer. If he can secure a passport in time, the Marlins would like him to attend minicamp in September in Jupiter. Gonzalez would not reveal terms of the deal, but a National League source who was monitoring Torres said he signed for $250,000. That's the equivalent of what a fourth-round pick would command.- Coghlan and RVH to Futures Game
Marlins' right-hander solid in Futures victory By Mike Berardino South Florida Sun-Sentinel Posted July 9 2007 SAN FRANCISCO -- Rick Vanden Hurk's trophy case just keeps getting more crowded. Already over the past three months, the Marlins' right-hander has stored away for safekeeping the baseballs from his first major league game, first strikeout, first win and first hit. Soon he'll add to those the ball from Sunday's All-Star Futures Game at AT&T Park. Such is the perk for being the winning pitcher for the World team's 7-2 victory over the U.S. "That's a lot of balls right there," Vanden Hurk said before flying back to Albuquerque to rejoin the Triple-A Isotopes. Chris Coghlan, the other Marlins representative in the annual event for elite prospects, had a tough start at second base. He booted a grounder for the game's only error on the very first pitch. "That was pretty embarrassing," he said. "But at least that gets rid of the jitters right away." Coghlan, 22, finished the first by having a wind-blown pop-up squirt out of his glove in short right field. Fortunately, right fielder Jay Bruce grabbed the deflection on the run for the rare 4-9 putout. "At least maybe we might be on ESPN," Bruce told Coghlan when they got back to the dugout. "Yeah," Coghlan replied, "I'll be looking like the idiot. You'll be looking like the good one." As for Vanden Hurk, pitchers who already have taken a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Atlanta Braves typically aren't candidates for this event. With 29 big-league innings under his belt, including six starts, he was believed to be the most experienced Futures Game participant in its nine-year history. He's also the first player born in Holland to make the game. "I was surprised I got selected, but I was very happy," Vanden Hurk said. "It's another milestone in my career. It's awesome." Vanden Hurk, up 2-0 before he took the mound, turned in a scoreless first. Devil Rays third base prospect Evan Longoria doubled for the only hit off him, but center fielder Michael Saunders (Mariners) could have made a better effort at the wall. Vanden Hurk followed with a wild pitch but got Ian Stewart (Rockies) on a tapper to the mound to end the threat. Vanden Hurk hit 94 mph several times, once on a called third strike to Justin Upton (Diamondbacks), who later homered. Unlike most of his big-league starts, Vanden Hurk did not have any relatives in the stands. His parents opted to stay in Holland and "get some work in," he said. Coghlan's mother and stepfather, Heather and Gene Roefaro, made the trip from the Tampa area to watch him draw a walk and ground out to shortstop. Sunday's showing won't do anything to knock the University of Mississippi product off the Marlins' fast track. The 2006 supplemental first-rounder recently learned he would be promoted from Class A Greensboro to high-A Jupiter. "My goal was to play a half a year, do well and get moved up," Coghlan said. "I had no idea what the Marlins wanted to do with me but I was able to move up. The first half went real well." Coghlan ranked among the leaders in most hitting categories in the South Atlantic League. His first game with the Hammerheads is Wednesday at Fort Myers. When he gets there, he'll be able to regale his new teammates with tidbits from Sunday's conversations with Hall of Famers Dave Winfield and Ozzie Smith. Winfield managed the U.S. team, while Smith was in uniform and took pregame infield with both teams. "I got to turn a double play with Ozzie Smith," Coghlan said. "Not too many people my age get to say they've done that. That's a once in a lifetime thing."- 1860s score in Chicago
Do you think Ozzie will resign tonight or wait until Saturday??? :mischief2- Horton 6 year deal :)
Any thoughts on who the Panthers will select at #10? Is there an NHL draft thread somewhere? :mischief2- 2007 All-Star Coaching Staff
I have a thought...what the hell did Ron Washington do to serve this selection? Guy has managed for half a season and the Rangers suck. Francona, Ozzie and/or Scioscia would have been better choices in my opinion.- Sanchez Shoulder...
Was listenening to the 10th ininng show and heard Roxie mention that Sanchez will be undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery...to be performed by Dr. Andrews. No word on how long they expect him to be out... :confused- 2007 Marlins Draft
A few more items on the draft 6/10/07 Fishing from my stream of consciousness, draft style: The basics: Andrew Paulauskas and Jeff Livek were the 28th and 29th players with Kenosha County ties selected in the annual Major League Player Draft, which concluded Friday. Paulauskas, a right-handed pitcher out of Tremper, was chosen in the seventh round by the Florida Marlins while Livek, a right-handed pitcher out of Carthage, was chosen by the New York Yankees in the 28th round. Friday marked the 33rd and 34th time a player with a county connection had gone in the draft since its inception in 1965. Central's Tom Underhill and Daryl Maday, Bradford's Augie Schmidt, Carthage's Paul Miller and Shoreland's Scott Roehl were all drafted twice. He's No. 7: The Marlins used the highest pick on a Kenosha high school senior when they plucked Paulauskas in the seventh round. Prior to Paulauskas, the earliest a county high schooler went was in 1979 when the Cincinnati Reds chose Schmidt in the ninth round. Schmidt opted to attend the University of New Orleans and was selected in the first round by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1982. Paulauskas was the earliest county pick since the Twins used their first choice in the now-defunct January draft on St. Joseph's Jarvis Brown in 1986. Paulauskas was the 226th overall selection in the draft. In county history, only Brown (ninth overall in 1986), Wilmot and Parkside's Kurt Kunz (200th overall - eighth round - by Kansas City in 1984), Schmidt (second overall in 1982) and Underhill (63rd overall in January of 1977) went sooner than Paulauskas in a draft. Trojan pride: Paulauskas was only the second Tremper product taken in the draft. The Minnesota Twins made pitcher Bill Letsom the first Tremper player drafted when they took him in the 26th round in 1970. Speaking of schools: Livek was the 10th player selected out of Carthage College - which is, by far, the most of any county school. Of those 10 players, all but three - Keith Sonnichen (the first player with county ties drafted in 1969), Dave Marino (1975) and Paul Miller (1986 and 1987) - played for Schmidt. Central, Parkside and St. Joseph have all had four players drafted while Wilmot has three, Tremper two and Shoreland one. Two drafted county players - Ryan Gehring and Jeremy Wilson - attended school outside of the area. Speaking of teams: Friday, the Marlins and Yankees both drafted county players for the second time. This was the second consecutive year the Marlins hooked a county product. Last year, Florida chose Wilmot graduate Kyle Barry, a pitcher, in the 41st round out of Madison Area Technical College. The Yankees last visited the county when they chose outfielder Bobby Zeihen, a Central product, out of Indiana State in the 23rd round. David Marran is sports editor of the Kenosha News. The game after the Boston Massacre was definitely one of the most important ones. You can throw in there the back to back walk offs against the Dodgers in '03; I believe they were courtesy of Mordecai and our back up catcher whose last name escapes me. Castro - not Fidel...the other guy.- It's time...
to flip that switch. Coming off a successful road trip...rest of June's schedule looks promising... Let's make a run. :hat- Pitching for the Indians/Marlins series...
