Career pinch-hits record holder Lenny Harris was hired Wednesday by the Nationals as their minor league roving infield instructor. He batted .269 with 37 homers, 369 RBIs and 131 steals across 18 big league seasons with eight clubs, winning a World Series with Florida in 2003. Harris played all four infield positions.

  4. Just got back from one of the best games of the year. It's time for Marlin fans to get out to the ballpark and support this team. No excuses....if you live in South Florida and are reading this post you need to be at the ballpark at some point during the current homestand. The time is now... Go Fish! :notworthy
  5. Jake has a bad wheel...plus this a grueling series. Nothing wrong with an off-day vs. the southpaw. :thumbup

no-no on the no-no... Isotopes Edge Zephyrs 3-2 07/23/2006 12:01 AM - Third baseman Mike Kinkade came through with an RBI single in the eighth to break a 2-2 tie and help send the Albuquerque Isotopes (50-52) to a 3-2 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs (51-51) Sunday evening at Zephyr Field. The win, coupled with last night?s triumph, gives the Isotopes their first back-to-back road victories since June 5-6 when Albuquerque took two in a row in Nashville. With the game knotted at 2-2 in the eighth inning, pinch hitter Edgar Gonzalez led off the frame with a single off of Z?s reliever Chris Schroder and advanced to second on a passed ball by catcher Alberto Castillo. After a strikeout and a groundout by Robert Andino that moved Gonzalez to third, Kinkade drove a two-out, 0-2 pitch right up the middle to score Gonzalez with the go-ahead run, giving the ?Topes a 3-2 lead. It was a lead that would be tested, as reliever J.B. Miadich entered in the eighth and quickly got the first two outs before Marlon Byrd sent a fly deep to right field that looked ear-marked for extra-bases. Rightfielder Matt Cepicky had other ideas, however, making a spectacular snow-cone catch after diving head first on the right field warning track to end the inning. Closer Brad Clontz then came on in the ninth and, after allowing a one-out single by Brandon Larson, who was pinch-run for by Kenny Kelly, coaxed Tyrell Godwin into a meek pop-up that second baseman Jason Wood corralled in foul territory and Castillo into a groundout to Andino that ended the game, giving Clontz his PCL-leading 16th save of the season. Early on, the game had all the makings of a classic pitcher?s duel, as starter Yusmeiro Petit cruised through four scoreless innings before New Orleans plated the game?s first run on a bold squeeze play. With Larson on third and one out in the bottom of the fifth, Castillo bunted back to the pitcher right as Larson broke for home. Petit fielded the ball but his throw to the plate to get Larson was too late and the Z?s had a 1-0 lead. Albuquerque stormed right back in the top of the sixth, when Wood doubled on a two-out bullet to right that scored Andino to tie the game at one. Chris Aguila then followed with a single plating Wood to put the ?Topes on top for the first time 2-1. The Zephyrs answered, however, in the home half of the sixth on a double by Admin Broadway that scored George Lombard to tie the game at 2-2 and set up Kinkade?s late-inning heroics. Reliever Ross Wolf (3-1) earned the victory after coming on for Petit in the sixth and pitching a perfect inning and a third. Schroder (2-1) suffered the loss.
  7. no contest - CliffsGirl aka ReggiesGirl... :whistle all-time classics include the "Golden Girls" from the upper deck & Muscle Boy! :notworthy
  8. Gourriel is a stud... One of the members of the Cuban team who deserted is star second baseman Yulieski Gourriel, considered as one of the best in the world at his position," The Bogota Times reported Friday. "It appears that his next destination would the New York Yankees.
  9. wouldn't mind picking him up..but i don't think he could help us much. his career is declining.. Umm, he's a 35 year old DH that's hitting .220. Why would you possibly want to pick him up? Great influence in the clubhouse? :whistle
  10. Looks good...I like seeing a couple of extra veteran lefty bats in the lineup vs. Smoltz. :thumbup
  11. Ross in the cleanup spot? Hermida 7th? Yeah, Jacobs Ross should be switched. Hermida and Ross should be switched after that. But it might work. Yep...it just might work! Don't give up your day job... :whistle
  12. If the objective this season is to audition for the rest of the decade and learn what winning is all about, then a guy like Helms is invaluable to this team, and not easily replaced. What Admin Beinfest hasn't called me lately for my advice, I'd hold onto Helms in the face of various inquiries. Give Beinfest some credit...he's certainly not going to just give Helms away. Beinfest will weigh the value of Helms on the current team versus the value he can bring. If the perceived value is greater than the current value - LB will pull the trigger. It's as simple as that...
  13. From Berardino's column today: ALMOST GOLDEN: If Joe Girardi sticks with his plan to break up Matt Treanor's personal-catcher pairings with Dontrelle Willis and Scott Olsen, it could help the Marlins get their first catching Gold Glove since Charles Johnson was here in 1998. With Mike Matheny (concussion) still out and Brad Ausmus having an uncharacteristically bad year throwing out base stealers (11 percent), the door could be open for Miguel Olivo , who leads the league at 33 percent. Matheny (four) and Ausmus (two) have split the last six NL Gold Gloves. I'm sure Olivo would have Spike's vote... :whistle

Hmmm...might we see him in the pen soon - ala K-Mart??? :mischief2
  15. that is a small strike zone tonight Hopefully it will be the same strike zone for Wakefield...
  16. I agree...and his wife must be a real winner. What the hell is her problem? Running off to Calgary and leaving her daughter behind? :confused Yeah. I really have no problem with Gary asking for a trade for this reason. Hopefully, Gary can come to a sound decision for him and his daughter. If it is to move her to a school down here in Florida so he can stay with the Cats, great. If it is to keep her in Toronto and play for the Maple Leafs, great. Family Loyalty>>All. Are you serious? This is ridiculous. Tell Roberts to bring his daughter done here and have her go to school. The Panthers are paying him millions of dollars. I'm sure he can afford to send her to Pinecrest, American Heritage or North Broward Prep.
  17. Well this is to Moehler to keep the game close. He is known for most of the blow out games we face during last month but he can sometime get lucky to get a quality star. It seem like its the first 2 innings that kills Moehler before he seattle down, that if he make it through those inning. Excellent analysis... :notworthy
  18. Man...I love when Marlins Troll and miamibaseball exchange thoughts. Fascinating stuff... :plain

  20. Yeah its a sticky situation. Id rather have Sanchez take Mo's spot but it is kinda messed up that Sanchez gets his spot after one outing. Looking at it from Mo's perspective. I'd say the decision is based upon more than just "one outing." His is our top pitching prospect in the minors, an All-Star at AA, he was a main part of the Beckett deal and his "one outing" happened to be 5+ innings of shutout ball in Yankee Stadium! I'd say Sanchez deserves the opportunity. :thumbup
  21. Does anyone need a description of what happened on the 1st run scoring play? Two errors charged to Willingham on the play... Please elaborate...
  22. How about the sweltering heat during Sat/Sun day games? Just brutal...
  23. What about Jason Johnson? Any chance the Marlins will face him???
