Opening day tickets...
I've got a couple of unused tix from the Cubs series which was "blown away" by the hurricane. What are the chances of me being able to redeem them for opening day tickets??? Any ideas? Thanks! :thumbup

Bench Philosophy...
The ongoing debate over our bench...JWilly v. DiFelice, Aguila v. Harris, etc. basically comes down to a difference in philosophies...would you rather have an experienced veteran who accepts their role and is willing to go weeks without any action versus a young up & coming yplayer who is eager to make his mark??? I would rather have Willingham and Aguila continue to play everyday in Triple A vs. inactivity on the Marlin bench. If an injury were to occur...then I would dip into the farm and tab one of the youngsters as a replacement. My feeling is that unless that are starting for the Marlins they are better off playing everyday in the minors. Thoughts? :mischief2

2005 Promotional Schedule
A outstanding schedule...I tip my hat to Sean Flynn and staff. I also like the fact the number of giveaways per game has increased to 12,5000.

Rounding out the roster
Lenny the Pimp...he's a lock - only lefty bat on the bench. Wilson Delgado Mike DeFelice

Who would you rather have?
Vlad. Ginger or MaryAnn???

who's gonna do the play-by-play?
does anyone know anything new about the new play-by-play guy for the marlins? 677134 Phil Rizzuto, Bill White & Frank Messer... :thumbup

Spooney
Am i missing something? I thought Rferry's contention was we had too much relief pitching. 676523 Not sure...I disagree vehemently with RFerry. He was against the Mecir signing. I thought it was another solid move by the Marlins. A team can never have too much pitching. The piece on Spooney in the Sun-Sentinel supports my contention. 676529 If you have 12 Allstar pitchers and you sign another clsoer for 14M is that too much pitching? 676530 Don't ask me...ask George Steinbrenner.

Spooney
that was slaphands who liked Scott Sanders... 676507 Damn Ramp...you're good. It was Slaphands...my bad. The point still remains the same however. How 'bout Pierre Pierce getting the boot? How the Hoosiers looking lately?

Spooney
Cheapshot...rferry didn't have this info to go on when he made his comments and I'm sure they would've been different with all the information.? ass. 676482 Ouch...he didn't need this info. The point remains that you can NEVER have enough pitching. :whistle

Spooney
Today's Scum-Sentinel article on Mecir states that Spooneybarger will most likely start the season off in the minors. Sounds like an excellent idea...let him get back into the swing of things in Triple AAA...less pressure, less initial demand on his arm. He can be called up as the season progresses. Another nice move by the Marlins. Can't have enough pitching! Right RFerry? :thumbup

Marlins Sign Jim Mecir
don't we already have 7 or 8 guys with guaranteed major league contracts coming out of the pen? 675718 If you count Alfonseca (not guaranteed) and Spooneybarger (minor league options left) and Perisho (who knows the terms), yes. Having this many relievers under major league contract is insane. 675736 Quick call Admin Beinfest...he must not have realized his mistake. Who died and made you a GM??? :whistle

Boog to Broadcast Wednesday Night Baseball on ESPN
I don't understand why Boog couldn't do the Marlins AND call the ESPN games. The announcers for the Giants, Cards, and a couple of other teams do national broadcasting on ESPN as well as fulfill their commitments to their respective clubs, why couldn't Boog do the same thing? Also, the guy that does Sunday Night Baseball, isn't he the play-by-play man for the Reds? 673947 Excellent point...doesn't make any sense. As Marlins2003 has pointed out on numerous occassions...Boog was obviously looking to leave the Fish.

Would you guys have given these 2 a chance?
i would've given both of these guys a chance if i was the marlins, Hideo Nomo and Jeff Nelson, they both signed minor league contracts i think we shouldve tried the same, who knows maybe Nomo would perform like the years before and wouldve helped us as our 6th or even 5th starter. also Nelson is a good reliever i mean it would not have hurt us to sign them to minor league contracts and invites to ST. If they didnt workout then you just let them go but imagine they both wouldve. they could've helped us. I know they are both old but i wouldve given them a chance. with all that said it is to late now cause they both signed, but just wanted to know if u guys wouldve done it? 674088 Who's to say Beinfest didn't try? I'm sure these guys had a number of options to consider. Perhaps Nomo felt Tampa was the best spot for him to make it back to the bigs. Their rotation is certainly less formidable than the Marlins. We can't sign everybody. :mischief2

Give Ency Some Love!
Come on guys, you gotta give Ency some credit. I mean, he did come to the Marlins late and didnt produce as most would like, but you also have to remember he played hurt most of the season last year. Did anyone remember what he did for us in our championship year? Clutch hits, amazing defense and a guy who can produce 25 HRs easy batting in our #7 slot. He's going to be healthier this season and with the addition of Delgado, that just makes his job less stressful. Even if he doesn't produce as much offensively as a lot would like to see this season, hes a lock to play great defense. SHOW HIM SOME LOVEEEEEEE!!!!!! :hug 672326 I'm starting to change my tune on Juan. I think it might not be bad to have him start in Right with Conine off the bench. I get the feeling it's going to take Conine a month into the season to get 100% healthy. If Juan provides us with stellar "D"and hits 20 HRswith 80+ RBIs we should be in good shape. Hopefully a healthy shoulder will allow Juan to return to the form of 2003. As for Conine he will still find plenty of ABs...he can provide relief to Delgado, Cabs, Enc and even JP if Enc moves to CFfor a game or two. it mihjt also make sense for Conine to begin transitioning into a pinch hiting role for the latter part of his career. Also, from an attitude perspective, Conine is more team orientented and would presumably handle the bench role like the true professional he is...

u talk like u actually know what ur talking about. what web site do u copy and paste your "sources" from? 672097 Who the hell are you? There is no reason to disparage Cape and this thread. Don't you have a rocket to polish??? :whistle

Marlins set franchise single-day sales record
A key component to the Marlins ticket success will be corporate sales. A large % of all season tickets around MLB are purchased by a large corporate base. The Marlins must do a good job in reaching out to the corporate base in Miami & FTL. When there is a solid base of season tickets, you never see the dismal #'s that occur when the Mets play the Nationals on a cold rainy Tuesday night in April. MLB counts tickets sold, not actual fans in attendance.

We use to have the Cannons (the marlins farm team) before some dude bought the team and moved them to the states (i was really mad about that) I remember going to games seeing Lee,Cabrera,Castillo..all those guys play. GO MARLINS GO!! 671818 When did Cabrera play in Calgary??? :whistle

Berardino's at it again...
Meh he fails to mention that signing Lee and Pudge were impossible for financial reason so pretty much he has no credibility. 671799 Exactly...no mention of the timing, the payroll budget, the deferred contract and the Hampton/Pudge $$$ coming off the books next year. :banghead

Berardino's at it again...
Did anyone catch Mike B's latest piece of crap in today's Scum-Sentinel? Will this little prick ever give it a rest??? Enough already...we all know you an stand the Marlins. :thumbdown

AJ Burnett
What's up with this guy? What do you guys think about AJ's actions after certain games in which his teammates do well? When a pitcher or star of the game does an interview with the TV crew, AJ reportedly shoves a pie in his face. In fact, it has led to a dramatic and altogether absurd tradition of 'pying' a rookie after his first big game. There are those of us who would vehemently reject to such childish antics, but I know for a fact that many people involved with the Marlin's organization are well informed and admit to being hesitant in stopping this ill-advised hazing. The possible injuries from said pie could translate into inflamed eyes or temporary blindness. I feel that we, as Marlin fans, should debate this matter on a local scale, and after we've come to an agreement, it should be brought to the attention of state and national officials. It could quickly get out of hand and become a serious threat to the livelihood of the organization. 671308 Are you freakin' serious??? :lol ? :lol ? :lol ? :lol ? :lol ? :lol
