Carlos Beltran rumors
Today's NY Times quotes Royal GM Allard Baird - says he is talking with four teams. His primary need is for a catcher and third baseman in return. I'd don't see how the Marlins can address these needs. Who do we have to deal - Ramon Castro and Joe Dillon? The Yanks May Prefer a Pitcher Over Beltran LOS ANGELES, June 20 - The Kansas City Royals are prepared to trade Carlos Beltran, their star center fielder, at any time, and the Yankees are among the leading candidates to make a deal for him. The question is whether they want to acquire him. "If I match up, I'm ready to deal," Royals General Manager Allard Baird said in a telephone interview Sunday. Most Yankees officials say they believe the team's most pressing need is pitching, and the Yankees scout Jim Benedict was in Pittsburgh on Sunday to watch the Seattle Mariners' Freddy Garcia for the second start in a row. But with the Boston Red Sox also pursuing Beltran, the Yankees' principal owner, George Steinbrenner, could order his officials to get him. The Yankees have the prospects the Royals are seeking. "I'm looking more at the third base and catching positions at the upper levels," Baird said. "When we start to look a month or a month and a half from now, then we would open it up a little." But Baird would like to act quickly, and for now, he said, he is focused on four interested teams that have a catcher and third baseman to deal. Baird would not name the teams, but it was clear that two were the Red Sox and the Yankees. He watched the Red Sox play in San Francisco on Saturday. Considering what he wants in a trade, Baird probably kept a close eye on Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis. The Red Sox could also offer their Class AAA catcher, Kelly Shoppach. Youkilis has hit .271 as a fill-in for the injured Bill Mueller. The Yankees do not have a major league-ready catcher or third baseman to offer the Royals. But the Royals, like the Mariners, have scouted the Yankees' Class AA Trenton affiliate. The Yankees' best prospect is Trenton catcher Dioner Navarro, and the Yankees recently shifted a highly regarded Trenton infielder, Robinson Cano, to third base so the Royals could see him there. Baird, who is also shopping third baseman Joe Randa, said he had been encouraged by the interest level of other teams in his players. While he is ready to deal for a third baseman and a catcher right now, he said he would broaden his search if Beltran were not traded soon. "I'm going to be patient," Baird said. "It's either matching up to my needs now, or I'll just wait until the end and be in a maximum-trade-value mode where I get prospects across the board." Complicating a potential trade for Beltran is that his agent, Scott Boras, plans to shop Beltran on the free-agent market this winter. The Yankees have an increasingly comfortable relationship with Boras and say they believe they would have a good chance of signing him this winter. Boras also represents Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams, who would switch to designated hitter if the team acquires Beltran. The Yankees' championship teams were built around pitching, and despite Steinbrenner's fascination with elite offensive players, the team seems more likely to acquire a starter before the July 31 deadline.

Carlos Beltran rumors
If we do trade for Beltran I don't want to resign him. If we trade for Beltran - we MUST resign him. Why deplete our already depleted minor leagues for a rental player? Beltran would be one of the cornerstone of our franchise as we move into our new ballpark. :notworthy

Where is Beltran from? Is there any chance of signing him to a three year deal? Can we use some of that "Vlad" money? Please tell me Boras is not his agent... :headscratch

Carlos Beltran rumors
JP in left? Is that practical? How strong is Beltran defensively compared to JP? I 'll assume his arm is far better. In this dream scenario - would we be better off leaving JP in CF, switching Cabs back to left and putting Beltran in right? :mischief2

It's June 21st...
the reason why i think people are in panic mode is cause they see the holes this team has and there is nobody to fill them in...it finally caught up with us and its up to the front office to fill those holes..yes the SP has been great but we need bullpen help and desperatly need another bat to help bring in runs right now Lowell, cabs, choi, have to much preasure on them and you can tell they are pressing... The starting rotation is set and the bullpen has been addressed. I am confident the FO will address our need for another bat in either LF or behind the plate. Have some patience. Something will get down. Let's take 2 out of 3 from the Braves.

Second place feels good?
Wow, Edcanes has really taken a turn for the worse. Edcanes = Informative Insider Teal Shadow = Chicken Little The Story of Chicken Little Don't be a chicken little. Don't be afraid. The sky is not falling. Narrator: Chicken Little was in the woods one day when an acorn fell on her head. It scared her so much she trembled all over. She shook so hard, half her feathers fell out. Chicken Little: "Help! Help! The sky is falling! I have to go tell the king!" Narrator: So she ran in great fright to tell the king. Along the way she met Henny Penny. Henny Penny: "Where are you going, Chicken Little?" Chicken Little: "Oh, help! The sky is falling!" Henny Penny: "How do you know?" Chicken Little: "I saw it with my own eyes, and heard it with my own ears, and part of it fell on my head!" Henny Penny: "This is terrible, just terrible! We'd better hurry up." Narrator: So they both ran away as fast as they could. Soon they met Ducky Lucky. Ducky Lucky: "Where are you going, Chicken Little and Henny Penny?" Chicken Little & Henny Penny: "The sky is falling! The sky is falling! We're going to tell the king!" Ducky Lucky: "How do you know?" Chicken Little: "I saw it with my own eyes, and heard it with my own ears, and part of it fell on my head." Ducky Lucky: "Oh dear, oh dear! We'd better run!" Narrator: So they all ran down the road as fast as they could. Soon they met Goosey Loosey walking down the roadside. Goosey Loosey "Hello there. Where are you all going in such a hurry?" Chicken Little: "We're running for our lives!" Henny Penny: "The sky is falling!" Ducky Lucky: "And we're running to tell the king!" Goosey Loosey: "How do you know the sky is falling?" Chicken Little: "I saw it with my own eyes, and heard it with my own ears, and part of it fell on my head!" Goosey Loosey: "Goodness! Then I'd better run with you." Narrator: And they all ran in great fright across a field. Before long they met Turkey Lurkey strutting back and forth.. Turkey Lurkey: "Hello there, Chicken Little, Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, and Goosey Loosey. Where are you all going in such a hurry?" Chicken Little: "Help! Help!" Henny Penny: "We're running for our lives!" Ducky Lucky: "The sky is falling!" Goosey Loosey: "And we're running to tell the king!" Turkey Lurkey: "How do you know the sky is falling?" Chicken Little: "I saw it with my own eyes, and heard it with my own ears, and part of it fell on my head!" Turkey Lurkey: "Oh dear! I always suspected the sky would fall someday. I'd better run with you." Narrator: So they ran with all their might, until they met Foxy Loxy. Foxy Loxy: "Well, well. Where are you rushing on such a fine day?" Chicken Little, Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey, Turkey Lurkey (together) "Help! Help!" It's not a fine day at all. The sky is falling, and we're running to tell the king!" Foxy Loxy: "How do you know the sky is falling?" Chicken Little: "I saw it with my own eyes, and heard it with my own ears, and part of it fell on my head!" Foxy Loxy: "I see. Well then, follow me, and I'll show you the way to the king." Narrator: So Foxy Loxy led Chicken Little, Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey, and Turkey Lurkey across a field and through the woods. He led them straight to his den, and they never saw the king to tell him that the sky is falling.

Savages Murder Another
I have a question here for all conservatives. If all evidence points to the fact that Al-Qaeda had more links, had been and is still being harbored, funded and protected by the Saudis... Why didn't we invade them instead of Iraq? Why wasn't any preasure put upon them the way we did Saddam? Who says they are being harbored, funded and protected by the Saudi government??? Al-Qaeda hates the Saudi government as much as they hate the United States. To compare our relationship with the Saudis and the actions of Saddam and the actions of the Taliban to the actions of the Saudi's is absurd. Generally speaking - your enemy's enemy is your ally.

Disgusting...after hearing this news it makes me sick to think about the Liberal outcry regarding some naked prisoners who were humiliated while incarcerated. These are the real atrocities. I hope we annihilate these sorry SOB's. Bush needs to step up to the plate and get the job done. He is are only hope for justice.

Marlins release minor leaguer
Isn't Juan Lindesey that "Vlad Guerrero type" that had previously changed his name? I don't think his numbers have been anything special - but someone to keep an eye on nonetheless.

A win is a win. BTW - what is your favorite baseball team??? I like the Marlins but am not a McKeon fan. I am just curious as to how and why things are done. Aren't you? No - not really. I kind of appreciate those games McKeon led us to victory in NY last October. You must really miss Jeff Torborg. :mischief2

The first "praise the bullpen" thread?
periosho doesnt suck...against lefties.... I agree - when used properly Perisho is an effective lefty specialist. He got some critical outs against Abreau and Thome earlier in the season. He will undoubtedly be called upon to face one or two lefties in critical situations as the season progresses. :thumbup
